While posting might take minutes, deciding what to post would take considerably longer I would think - and would still be offering hostages to fortune, as this thread shows. And of course there would then be requests for updates on that, which again would require a lot of careful thought and consideration - by definition, from people who already have a lot on their plates managing the actual development.
I agree it would take longer than "minutes" to compose a message, but again, it's been 28 months, though... that's a lot of minutes.
I agree as well that making any type of commitment at all has the consequence of being held hostages to fortune, but with all due respect, choosing to make no commitment is, in itself, a commitment and has its own consequences. I know I'm probably the odd man out, but after spending tens of thousands of dollars here (60+) one consequence of not being able to plan my future projects with DAZ without knowing what will work next year or the year after that has been that I've stopped spending.
Yes, posting status updates would have us expecting more updates somewhere down the line, no argument there. As much as I'd love a status update, I'm not expecxting one, so not posting status updates has worked in that regard.
Hopefully, having saved all that time they would have wasted by posting annual or semi-annual status updates will mean they'll be releasing DAZ Studio 5 that much sooner.
Hopefully 2024 will be the year!
Sorry... I've been away awhile but I have to ask: What's the hurry? What is expected with DS5 that would have some so eager for it? My guess is that a new version would have system requirements many would not be able to meet and a bunch of stuff we already love will be broken
(LOL - How many shader types are already useless now?) Why be disappointed that the version we have is still being made better?
The latest version of Iray Renderer, for one... It was promised with the next "Major" update, which would be the move from 4-5. Daz is still working off of 2022..0.0 Beta, and the current stable Iray release is 2023.1.0 (I think). You can read the Iray Dev blog to find all the fixes, but there have been massive performance improvements over the last year, including volumetric rendering performance. There has also been a materials expansion and a few other things that I am pretty interested in. Also, I am hoping for a few more key features with regards to physics engines, and animated volumes (these have not been announced or anything, I am just hoping for them). I would also like to see a massive improvement in asset management and folder structure (again, not announced, just a pipe dream I would imagine). But 2023 Iray vs 2022 Iray is really the big appeal for me, the two are night and day with regard to the things I like to create...
Of course it's delayed. If they had it to release, they would. People like to get on with things, when they can.
For MacOS users, I thing the main reason is to finaly have access to Filament.
I don't know if DS5 is supposed to be a native Apple Silicon application, but if it's the case, it would also means better performance.
The current Public Beta uses Iray 2023.1.0 (373000.1077), see the Change Log (4.22.1.36).
Oh, that's nice to know. I haven't tried the public builds in a while, and the last time I saw Iray upgrade mentioned it said: "With the next 'Major' release." which would be a change from 4-5 and not a change from 4.10 to 4.22 or whatever change it's going to occur at... Good to know it's being upgraded earlier though, I can't wait. Maybe if I can figure out why DIM isn't installing software and only content, I will give the public beta a try :)
Correct, I'm one of the three or four people who's been waiting for the Filament renderer for over three years now (I'm currently using OpenGL for animation, Filament should be an improvement). From the first post here, "M1 support will come during the continued development of Daz Studio 5" – of course it may have M3 native support now... maybe M4? Not sure if it *will* have Apple Silicon native support at launch, but if not, sometime "during the continued development of Daz Studio 5" for sure.
Richard passed on to us from the developers that Apple Metal is being used in the Mac version, but no word on how exactly it is being used.
Filament is now up to 1.44.0 in the Public Beta (Change Log).
Looking forward to trying it out when DAZ Studio 5 comes out... though it may be a newer version by then...
While there may not be a roadmap or set of milestones for DS5, there are various status updates:

It is interesting (but maybe not significant) to note that DAZ_Rawb, who started this thread in 2021, has not been on the site since 2022, and is not listed as an employee in his profile.
This is perhaps due to filters in DIM. Select Download Filters at the top left had corner of your main DIM window. From there, scroll down and check the boxes you want to see. For this content, under 'Application Tags' ensure [DAZ Studio 5] and [DAZ Studio 4.5+] are checked. Also, 'Install Type Tags' check [Software]. For 'Release Channel Tags' check [Public Build] if you want to check out the beta version.
No, No, I am having a different issue with DIM altogether... Even the 4.22 update would not install. I still haven't figured it out, though I did find a temporary solution and was able to get both the stable release and the beta installed. I created a thread in the commons if you care to read through it and help me diagnose. For some reason DAZ doesn't want to install software updates (anything such as DAZ 4.22 update, Beta Build, GoZ for DAZ, C4D Bridge, Blender Bridge, etc) when the download path is on a mapped network drive. It will however install content (Characters, Props, Clothing, etc) from that location. The error in the Helper log state that it cannot find the location of the package file, yet, all packages, software and content, go to the same exact folder... so I am kind of lost. Anywho, I don't want to hijack this thread, so if anyone thinks they have the answer, pop over to my DIM Installation thread and help me out :-D
Tafi is already working on a Character Generator (AI text to 3D), it's a feature I would like to see in Daz Studio 5.
Without sources, this is made-up nonsense.
That's quite the dichotomy!
Has anyone heard back about the Tafi Beta? I was one of those who received an invite to sign up, but I've heard nothing since. Well, apart from a second invite to sign up that was the same as the first. Hope that isn't because I didn't bother filling it in a second time.
And here's the source: https://www.maketafi.com/ai
With thousands of characters and morphs from Daz3D Shop , an AI could be able to create unique characters.
I hope it will be as smart as AI text to image, I mean when the prompts are "Korean", "Japanese" and "Chinese", an AI create different types of faces instead of a basic Asian character.
Good luck getting what you actually want out of text inputs.
That would be exactly the wrong way to go.
It would be like asking a friend from the DAZ community making a character for you.
I really don't like the "make art" button becoming real.
I'll second that!
Honeslty, this sounds quite dumb...
That system will simply mix the morphs you have in your library and randomly makes you a char following the text input.
Basically you can do the same in shorter times and have the right result immediately instead of waiting minutes for the stuff to be done and maybe redo it multiple times due to unsatisfying results.
Richard already answered that post

"AI is not a reliable or useful source of information - it makes stuff up"
The gif at the top of the Tafi newsroom gives a simple example using Victoria 9: https://www.maketafi.com/newsroom
It's a control not a "create art" button. I actually think Daz is at a massive competitive advantage if they can get features like that into studio. If they don't, when AI engines begin to give a user more control over fine-grained aspects of a scene's actor and begin to extrapolate 2D models into 3D projections that can manipulated at will and in a reusable fashion, then Daz is dead. But right now, they have a huge opportunity to grab the market for a quicker workflow backed by AI and protect the actual artists who model, texture and code content for Daz Studio. And because we're talking about additional controls into that content, it changes absolutely nothing for those who still want to fiddle about with interface sliders.
It's totally cool and still relies on the artist, although a pseudo-random function will likely be available the artist still has to be satisfied with the results.
We are told that this is likely
I am focused on getting my G8F based character and my scene as photoreal as possible.
This is the one agenda for me. So my main question is, how can DAZ studio help me with this?
I need realistic joint bendings, realistic skin and hair shaders and a render engine, that can do the job.
If supporting Ai features can help me with that, I will be all happy.
I'd like to be able to get the whole job done in DAZ Studio, because having to use a bridge to other apps often comes with a loss of features like geo grafts or geo shells or the use of micro displacements.
Is this an example of the AI we might expect in DAZ Studio? https://www.daz3d.com/face-transfer-2
