I think the housecat will be released at Hivewire first. I'm standing by with my credit card. DAZ has had far too long to make a cat and dog.It has been... Years.... I'm willing to reward the other stores initiative for getting it on market faster.

You can keep thinking that way, but you're probably looking the wrong direction and will miss the better work when it is released.

    Kendall

..yeah, I'm content with waiting for Alessandro's kitty.

    Same here!

And here. None of the hivewire cats I have seen have proper fur, and without that they look really weird.

Unless they have a sphinx morph?

We'll see. Domestic cats and dogs  haven't been a huge priority here, though, and I've been needing these animals for renders for years now far more than the current wild animal lineup so if Hivewire produces first, they will most certainly make a sale from me.  I like their customer responsiveness and initiative. As far as which is better, we'll see.

There is talk of someone doing a LAMH for the big cat and also the domesticated one I believe, also for Poser users Tiny is working on Poser hair presets

I just need the domestic cat and dog. I rarely have need to render wild animals no matter how well done so I've been really waiting for them to appear in the store. Sadly it has been a long wait so hopefully they will be released at either store soon.

    ...+1

And as I said tha cat has to bend like a cat.

Cats can get themselves into amazing positions. Ferrets are about the same.

And I am all for a new Cat and Dog base. Now if we could get the new base Cat to do this, that would be amazing.

And even with a dog you have to take care when assembling the starter kit.

I think you'll only get really good domestic cats in a 3D system that supports fluid physics...

    heh heh

Are you sure that's just one continuous dog? No spare bits from multiple layered dogs sticking out from behind this one?

Having an HW kitty doesn't mean I won't have an AM kitty, too.

  • quick question!  I don't supose anyone knows of a decent English Bulldog morph for the milldog?  I need one for a commissioned render and I was hoping to save myself some time before attempting to mash one together from scratch.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

Just more bones down the back, might do it.

    same with the Dog

Fun fact: all mammals have 7 vertebrae in their necks, dogs, cats, Giraffes, human, or what have you.

So why can't we twist our heads around like that?

Actually ... looking at those images, most of the flexibility is really in the spine from the thoracic vertebrae on down, where the flexibility shows up most strongly. The neck portion from the shoulders up is relatively straight. (..."relatively".) Not that there's NO additional flexibility in the neck, but it may be less than those positions makes it look like there is.

Also, the neck vertebrae in giraffes must be HUGE. Wonder if maybe they have more discs between the vertebrae to deal with the length?

But yes. I look forward to new 3D cats and dogs, wherever they come from.

    They are just really BIG

They also use their neck as a weapon, when males fight each other over space and females.

    Their necks alone weigh 500lbs.

I look forward to a cat being made here, but NOT if it requires LAMH. A long haired cat should have long hair without the requirement to put hair on it. It has nothing to do with the LAMH product and everything to do with my skill of application and the time it takes. Make long haired animals ready to render!

thanks! I do need rigged :) I have seen that one in Renderosity, actually.  Does anyone know if it actually works in daz, though?  The description says that's it's poser only, but I know that doesn't always mean anything

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,021

Novica: Well, currently, stuff with LAMH _is_ ready to render without effort -- in 3DL.

And when LAMH 2 drops, they'll also be ready to render in Iray.

The only other options, like transmapped manes that the Daz Cats have, have some big issues in Iray. (Like rendering incredibly slowly because of multiple intersecting transmapped surfaces)

  • I will be getting both.... I am an equal opportunity cat/dog person lol.

I want pet fish models also.  I just got a realistic model of a male Betta I named Steve.  He is not cgi but something I can keep in a display on my desk.

Very good question - I am not sure either. It could be that Lyrra used P10/P11 weightmapping - in that case it will NOT work in DS.

Just a quick heads up for those who are interested, the HW house cat has been released. I almost missed the window where you buy the house cat and get the kitten free, (just as they did for their big cat.)

I'm of the mindset that two are better than one... I just bought the HW cat, and I'll also buy Alessandro's cat when it's available.

..on a tight budget so only will get one. Besides, need to save for that Virtual Dynamics software I just learned about.

I understand completely. I probably shouldn't have spent the money, myself... but I just couldn't resist, having a houseful of real cats. (We peaked at 7 cats several years back. We are now down to "only" 4!)

I'd love to have four! That would be awesome! :D Cats are great!

Sadly we can only afford one - and that's probably a good thing since we only adopt cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia and they can be a handful. Our first CH kitty died of cancer last year and we knew right away that if we ever got another cat we'd be taking in another cat with CH. CH kitties are the best! :) They are usually so much more loving and affectionate than "normal" cats. Our "new" CH kitty is wonderful! I wish more people would adopt cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. They are so misunderstood.

The house cat at HW looks great btw! I'm tempted but I think I'll have to save my money for a cat with more realistic looking fur (assuming that will ever happen lol).

On a side note - I wish HW and Daz would merge.

All our animals are rescues, one way or another. The most dramatic was Smidgeon. I found her in the middle of the road two weeks before my contract delivering newspapers was up. (Won't ever do that again!) I think she was clipped by a car, but some other people said her seizures were probably from eating a mouse or rat that had injested rat poison. All I know is, she went back and forth between cat and catatonic for a couple of days, until cat won out. That was 7 years ago. Today she is a feisty feline, but very affectionate. She's my baby.

That is kinda really not likely to happen, I'm presuming you don't know the history behind Hivewire.

Chris was one of the original founders of Daz and Lisa used to be the main suppler of plants here, her stuff was all (I think) PC stuff.

There did used to be a thread at Hivewire that explained from Chris' perspective what happen and why they founded HIvewire.

Not to mention that the 3D world will be better off with more competition rather than less...

(argh, the quotes aren't showing up properly - only the last sentence 'not to mention...' is mine)
