On a side note - I wish HW and Daz would merge.

OMG, NO! the more stores the better. I still can't believe you have never shopped at Rendo

The HW cat looks great, can't believe I missed the release.

I've never spent money on 3D content anywhere but at the Daz store and Adam Thwaites' site. Frankly, it's because I've not seen the kind of deals that we get here anywhere else. Between the great sales, the stacking discounts, the PC+ items, and the PC+ coupons, etc, I've not seen any other store get down to those kinds of prices. Except, as I said, Adam's site which often has beautiful characters and character morphs for super cheap (particularly with the email list discount).

I hear Rendo used to have some really good coupons and stuff but not so much these days.

Renderosity: with a Prime Membership (which is cheaper than the membership here) - Prime products can go down to 3.50$ (cheaper than some PC items here). Just saying ...

You have to look at the sales like you have to look at sales here ... no difference.

Really? I can get a yearly Prime Membership for less than $12.40? Because that's how much I got my PC+ membership for. :)

Well - that was the first time for this price in the last 9 years ... so good for you. But not exactly normal.

And how much had you to pay to get that price?

quick question!  I don't supose anyone knows of a decent English Bulldog morph for the milldog?  I need one for a commissioned render and I was hoping to save myself some time before attempting to mash one together from scratch.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

    https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/mildog-improved-remapped/115572

Or, if you don't need a rigged character, there is a free prop: http://www.most-digital-creations.com/bulldog.htm

thanks! I do need rigged :) I have seen that one in Renderosity, actually.  Does anyone know if it actually works in daz, though?  The description says that's it's poser only, but I know that doesn't always mean anything

Very good question - I am not sure either. It could be that Lyrra used P10/P11 weightmapping - in that case it will NOT work in DS.

The readme shows it uses pz2 files to call PMD files and that doesn't work in Studio.

Edited to add...this is for Lyrra's reworking of the MilDog, not the HW cat. I grabbed the wonderful cat but haven't had a chance to play yet. Been really busy and haven't opened Studio for, arggghhhh, weeks. :((((((

Not much. I think I only had to get like one new release at the time? I don't remember. This was my entire cart (most of it I bought because I wanted it, not because I had to to trigger the discount):

The HW cat looks great, can't believe I missed the release.

You may have missed the release for the HW Big Cat, but the HW House Cat is still a discounted new release, with the kitten as a free bonus when it's released if you get the cat before the end of day, 10/7. And the cat toys are free. With my points applied, I only paid a little over $20.

I've never spent money on 3D content anywhere but at the Daz store and Adam Thwaites' site.

I'd have to say over 95% of my purchases have been with DAZ. I picked up both Dawn and Dusk for free at HW, but have never really done anything with either of them. The only paid items I've bought from HW are the Big Cat, Big Cat Panther texture, and now the House Cat. I've purchased quite a few more items at Rendo, but hardly anything at all compared to my purchases here.

I have never seen Rendo's new prime membership offered at a discount, I may have missed it if it was, but otherwise you have to pay $30 dollars for it. That is more than I paid for my PC+ membership here. To me Rendo's membership offers a fraction of the benefits I get from the PC+ club here. I might pay around 10$ for it, but not more. Most of the prime items are occassionally discounted to all members at less than the prime price. Also you will never pay less than the prime price, as none of their coupons or other discounts apply to the prime products. I find the coupons offered for both prime and non-prime members to be almost valueless, the current one is 17% off, but only for full priced items, so not exactly a great deal.

I think part of the problem is that Rendo Prime items are still basically PA items, while PC+ items are bought by the PC+ club. At least, that's how I understand it.

I do the vast bulk of my buying here at Daz, but there are specific items I buy elsewhere, generally when there's simply no other option.

Correct, and it is also why you rarely see discounts there of more than 50-60%, since they can not offer the crazy discounts that DAZ can on its own DO items. Having said that, some non-DO PA items here have recently been offered at around 85% discount, for example the Mely3D items pushed out in Fast Grab over the last day or so. Also a huge number of older PA items were available at 83% off when the mega fast grab and PA discounts stacked, that day I made my biggest single order here for a long time.

But back to dogs and cats.

Anyone know where I can get a good model of a Maine Coon Cat.

They look so cute as kittens...

    Then they grow up!

my other choice is a Norwegian Forest Cat

  • The house cat at HW looks great btw! I'm tempted but I think I'll have to save my money for a cat with more realistic looking fur (assuming that will ever happen lol).

Just FYI - there are people working on both LAMH and Poser fur for the HW House Cat.

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,548

I bought the Hivewire cat and I wlll buy the LAMH cat even though I am still having massive issues with LAMH.  I have to say I am very pleased with how the fur looks on the housecat, Far better than the current cat here at Daz. The cat itself is just beautiful.  And the textures from the big cat, work on the housecat.

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,286

I suspect the interchangable textures is going to make a lot of people really happy. Particularly once they work their way to the tiger. (Which is still off in the misty distance. The Lion, on the other hand is visibly in progress.) It's been at least provisionally hinted that the dog/wolf may be able to use the same UV as well, although that may not work out by the time it's complete. I suspect the ears may provide a spanner to insert into the works. Dogs will probably require additional geometry for ears once they start exploring different breeds. But some of the textures may work.

We've seen teasers on a number of the textures in development for the House Cat, and teasers on the morphs in development for the Big Cat in the WiP forums and the only thing to complain about is the fact that it will be anything from weeks to months before we see any of them in the store.

I prefer the look of the Hivewire horse over the horses sold here at Daz, might be the same with the housecat.  Although for either model of the kitty I would love to see creature morphing abilities, to turn your normal tabby into some sort of alien like version or hell cat or something.

I've seen some pretty bizarre results from the included morphs and scaling done with the old MilCat. Don't know how well they took poses, and I suspect totally unsuited for animation, but they looked pretty alien, all right.

Chris Creek showed us some fairly hilarious morphs that he was playing around with on the House Cat. Don't know how many of them made their way into the final package (bought it, but haven't had a chance to play yet). And it is my impression that the Hivewire figures (at least the human figures, but possibly the animals, too) take scaling rather better than average. That alone can make for some interesting morphs.

I remember trying to create a ferret with the Milcat once, in the end I don't know what it became but he was hideous. Lol!  I remember there being a morph set for the milcat that was on sale in the store years ago that you could turn the cat into an alien, undead, and stuff like that but by my time it was already no longer available for purchase.  Which was sad because I picked up the sister set for the Mildog and I've done so much with those morphs and textures, by mixing the morphs and using deformers I came up with some cool creatures.

Might have better luck on a ferret starting from one of Ken Gilliland's lizards... Not sure how you'd give it ears, without a modeling program, and there may not be enough geometry to try.

  • We sure could use a upgrade to the Mil Dog. It bends terrible and the mough and jaws and tounge are horrible.

lol...when I saw this you reminded me of me about 5 years ago...rarely went anywhere else but Daz these days I shop whereever I can get what I need. I find Daz sales too complicated for the most part but was really pleased to be able to pick up a few of Stonemason's sets recently. I do love his work...

Picture of the kitty with fairy ears morph...there was some post work done but only applying a filter.

    on the Mildog Improved project

I did not use weightmapping. I did encode the morphs as a poser 11 Injection PMD (works in poser 10 as well) . BUT the part that really doesnt work in DS is all the body ratio dials, all of which are used in making all the breed dials.

So if you really want you can save the cr2 with my morphs from poser, and then spin the scales on all the legs, body and neck size in DS, thenyou can use it there.  Well and reset all the shaders - it's all new mapping and I only made Poser material settings.

But since most people can't do that, I tagged it as poser only.
