The fiber mesh hair can be very resource intensive. I like a bit of it, but too much makes a figure look... Erm. Brushy. So hopefully it isn't too much.

I can't wait to see what folks produce.

I'd sooner have more realism; if my system won't cope, why hold everyone else back?

It depends on the implementation. Over articulation of hair isn't always more realistic.

  • If we get new dogs and cats, I'd really like to see a wider variety of dog breeds represented this time around. I'd do anything for a Daz-friendly pug dog or any toy breeds for that matter, esp. since the Millenium Dog and its morphs heavily favored larger breeds (like rottweilers, labradors, German Shepards, etc) and I'm not about to take a shot in the dark money-wise with the Poser-native one that's for sale elsewhere.

Me too!  I'm a chihuahua and pug and peke lover so would like to see smaller fur babies rather than the typical Larger breeds

The WiP thread at the other site that doesn't start with an 'R' show early work on a kitten morph to go with the house cat. They look good too.

The problem still being that the lead modeler is only one person. And the way they've managed the releases of their Horse is probably a good indication of how the rest of their animals are going to be emerging. We'll get the base character. There will be a number of basic morphs (bulk, thin, whatever) built in. There may probably be additional packages of add-on morphs or expressions or poses either accompanying it., or fairly soon after.

Then down the road we'll start getting breed morphs, or things like a cub morph, and they'll all be excellent. But they won't be coming out as a bundle. Although down the road they will probably be offered as a stack. But who wants to wait that long? I'll snatch them as they release them.

And one good thing; they support Studio AND Poser. Some of the 3rd-party add-ons may be only good for one or the other, but all the base figures and breeds and whatever which come out under the company's name can be used in either.

Actually, the MilCat still looks pretty good if you can get fur onto it. Either LAMH or Tiny's dynamic Poser hair. Probably Garibaldi as well.

It was a remarkably good figure for its time, and has held up very well. But it's time was something like a dozen years ago, and that's very old tech now. The dog, on the other hand was good for its time as well, but it hasn't held up half as well. Hardly ever looks convincing any more.

Chris Creek's new dog is default labrador, but he's also working on a boxer morph. Plus a separate toy dog base (chiuahua). Plus half a dozen other animals. The biggest problem with his animals seems to be that he's only one person, so they only show up one at a time and the add-on morph characters trickle out months later. Which is kind of unavoidable when the lead modeler is only one person.

...it still has serious distortion issues when trying to do poses cats actually do.

we've had five generations of human as we; as two Dragon and Horse figures since Mil Cat and Dog were released.

Yeah, the rigging was very good for its time, but its time was, like I say, antique in computer years. That's the main issue in all of the older animal models. The modeling was fine on most of them. But the texturing usually wasn't really up to current resolution standards, and the rigging creaks.

  • I heard that rumour too :)

Go to H....W... to see what CAN be done in the feild of Animals. Only two released so far  ( Horse and Gorilla) but Big cat is next, I believe. Some simplly AWESOME WIP  shots there..and most of the old Mil Big cat problems seem to have been solved. Also in the works are House Cat, Dog and Dragon.. I gather the Big Cat is due for release early August - and I can't wait :)

Couldn't agree more, the WIP shots are freakin awesome looking, can't wait for that one

The model and textures are very good quality, however the lack of fibre mesh hair does make the final image seem a bit flat to me.

True, but I have LAMH (even though I have never figured out how it works) and I'm pretty sure someone will come out with a preset. Besides, at least it looks like a leopard, feet and mouth especially. The Big cat 2 just looked way off in these areas.

Until the the new models are available there are some presets for the older models (mil cat and dog and Big Cat 2) available. Scroll down: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/102561/its-time-for-new-cat-and-dog-models#latest . All that is required is the free LAMH Player.

Yep, well aware, but thanks for the reminder. I have had LAMH full version for quite a while now, but the UI has never made sense to me. I recently installed it again to give it another shot, same thing so far, oh well maybe one day it will click with me

Make it happen before another store/creator steals your thunder. It would be a great kick off for the PA sale if not before.

I admit the original LAMH presets for cat and dog weren't my cup of tea. I hope for some new fresh looks for these animals.

Thanks but it won't matter, believe me. I don't want to spill the beans yet, but the work I'm after will deliver a new and vast series of characters and animal models with the highest possible level of realism, functionality, interchangeability and polymorphism.
I, and the fellow testers that are working on these, are extremely proud. If I'm correct in my own self-examination as an artist and professional, it is certainly some of the best work I've done to date. But, ultimately, that is for others to decide.

birds would be good too yes seen those ones eleswhere look good

+1 one on birds. Actually make it something like +50. I've been to the "other" non-R site, and I'm not really happy with what they have on birds. If one of the content creators could make a good posable Raven/Crow like in this picture (this is a Z-brush result), I'm even willing to comission them for it.

Alessandro, did you ever consider doing birds? *whistles innocently* angel

You know crows can't talk if you fork their tongue.

  • I've been bugging am for birds and cats and dogs and well lots of critters elsewhere too as well as here oh and he's doing dinosaurs in the future  too btw

Dinosaurs do fall into the context I expressed earlier, so yes they are in production too. Birds with realistic plumes and feathers are currently being designed using a not public (yet) LAMH extension. Zipping my mouth again now. Stay tuned for incoming news.

We need a mouse prop with the cat.

My cats are rarely without the poor little things. Sometimes I get to rescue, mostly it's just clearing up a half (yes a half).

I wasn't suggesting anything in particular, only that I'd sacrifice something for realism; meaning if it takes ages on my comp, but looks good I'd buy; not interested otherwise.

Yeah, but who's going to model half a mouse? smiley

    Haha

I'll settle for a whole one, looking suitably terrified of course.

Kat (yes, it's not very original, is it?) has a bad habit of leaving her mice (half or otherwise) where we can find them.

I bet she comes in making lots of noise too, just so you know.

Hmm, I had a cat who thought our dog, who was a male, was hers.  They did everything together except hunt since the dog wasn't allowed to roam.  That cat always brought all of her presents back to our dog, after a successful hunt, looking for approval.

  • oh and rabbits would be nice too maybe guinnee pigs but back onto the dogs and dogs with morphs expressions I know a lot would like the growling/barking types ones but hope they'd be a lot of friendly playful happy ones too stuff like drinking, tongues out, smiling yes dogs and cats smile, playing with toys

  • actually on a side note for any other creators reading this thread that create objects that'd be a good bundle products toys for dogs, cats, birds and others and beds, scratch posts, collars/leads and probably for some coats, and clothing

  • I had a cat that was a stray actually most of the cats had were strays anyway Flipper was huge not fat but huge had claws that he just had to lightly touch you and youn bled deeply anything he caught he ate every bit no evidence and dogs were terrified of him one day saw a bunch of dogs chase after him he had enough turned around and beat them up and chased after them after that if any of those dogs saw him they ran in other direction. Had another cat who was best friends with our first German Shepard could do anything  with each other and very protective of each other and he'd put his head in her mouth and she'd just go aaaaaa to him
