Just an FYI, the Jessica character today from ROM FX has an Editorial License.

She's not a good lookalike character for Jennifer Garner (I only see it because someone pointed it out on the lookalike thread).  She doesn't come with any costumes, so why would they make it an EL?

Knowing it was editorial license I figured it had to be similar to someone famous. She was the closest I could think of based on knowing the name is usually close to the inspiration model for artist ROM FX. With that said, I think as a look a like it was an aweful model so why bother giving it an Editorial License. There are so many models on this site that are like near perfect twins and they don't have Editorial licenses. Just look at Mouso's work. I guess maybe it helps to use completely unrelated names, but in many cases it's not just the shape but well produced skins to match with features like moles matching up with the source model. Guess that is a reason i loved lots of Mouso's work. HID recently made a model i liked, but then realized it was editorial, so it was quickly dropped from the cart and not wish listed. I refuse to buy character models with Editorial licenses even if they are just for messing around with personally. Every person has a ton of look a likes as you get more and more famous people eventually if every famous person had their look editorialized there would be nothing left and potentially models made without trying to mimic someone's appearance could be criticized for copying an appearance. There's that old saying about someone being 1 in a million. That means there are like 8,000 people who look like that 1 person. Lol. Several years back a non famous person named Justin Bebier had his Face book account closed for impersonating Justin Beiber because he had the same name with same spelling even though he had his account years before the kid had become famous. He wasn't trying to impersonate the singer, he just had his account with the name as he had for years, then had to fight to try to get his account turned back on and given to him. Anyways, editorial license on character models that look similar to people rant over. Lol

she reminds me of someone very much and it's not Jennifer Garner but I cannot for the life of me recall whom.

it might not be anyone actually famous

Andie MacDowell was the name that popped in my head... just a resemblance.

They say everbody has a twin out there somewhere and I can attest to that being true more or less as I've actually met three other mes and it was unnerving as it was almost like looking in a mirror. To be fair one was a distant relative, cousin 11 times removed, but the other two were not related in any way we could find.

Ya, there are 2 baseball players who look like twins and they have no familial relation, but they have the same percentages of racial DNA markers.

Maybe not exactly from day one, but MMX Genesis 9 Clones was released about 2 months after the introduction of Genesis 9. The product's almost 2 years old by now :)

G9 is that old already? Seems like a few months only. No wonder I'm so old.

...so wondering if that means G10 is around the corner.. Save for G8, all other Genesis generations had about a 2 year "shelf life".

In an entirely unpaid testimonial: The doorbuster today is MMX G9 Clones and if you do not have this and you care to work with G9 at all, you want this. Really. You do. This is one of the two tools (the other being https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-9-pose-converter-bundle ) that finally enabled me to start using G9.

Not hard to make clones though. There's (or, at least there used to be) a freebie tutorial on The Other Store. I've made a G8F clone that works exactly like the MMX one. I bought it anyway because, for one buck and for all generations, it saved me a lot of work. But G9 mesh is so different that those clones don't make miracles. It's not like G3<->G8. It's more like G2<->G3. Some items fit well; others, not so much. For instance, well-conforming shorts and pants (tight fit) fit almost perfectly; dresses, skirts, or tops (when your character has large breasts), not so well... Hair is hell! I rarely use G9 stuff on G8. Only when there's no alternative. The other way round works better.

I believe the converter tool works both ways so you can utilize G8 and G9 back and forth.  I started using Daz recently, so personally I don't use G8 or 8.1 much, but one day, there'll be another model and I'll have use for a product like this for Genesis 10, X or whatever they come up with.

You should. G8 is 10,000 times better than G9. I think I only use G9 because I like a challenge (even so, I use it, like, less than 10% of the time; only when I'm up to a challenge)...

...as to hair I often manually fit and parent it between generations which preserves styling and movement morphs  Using autofit sometimes causes other issues (like a "kink" in some long hair at the lower neck level)  .

Yeah autofitiing hair is kinda hit and miss. Tends to work best with real short hair styles

Daz Studio 4.23 update G9 TO G8&8.1 auto fit, after a simple test, I think "MMX Genesis 9 Clones for All" is better, glad we still have great plugins available for purchase.

I missed the important aspect -  that it should be there from day 1, and included with base essentials for free :D

Yep. The preorder for Victoria 9 launched on September 21, 2022 - and there have been a LOT of G9 characters since:

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/642596/list-of-g9-core-figures

(And that list isn't quite up-to-date since I'm not motivated to continue chronicling the line when I'm not allowed to purchase some of its core figures, with Aiko 9 and who knows how many future characters being exclusive to Premier.)

I treat hair like a prop and parent it to the head of whatever figure. I've done it with some g9 hair too. There may be some hairs that won't cooperate, especially g9 hairs, but I don't own them or haven't encountered them. Short hairs are generally easier for everything because they don't intersect other parts of the figure. They just sit on the head.

Let's say g10 is coming - someday it will, right? Wonder how people will feel about it? I could be wrong but it seems like there has been a certain amount of fatigue from long time customers over g9. Two years on, there is not anything like universal love for the figure.

A lot of the dislike I see for G9 should not be directed at the model itself, but other factors that create a bias.  You have some artists who make figures that wouldn't even pass for G8.  I am not a fan of Jessica for Genesis 9, she look like an early G8 model.  For me, the benchmark really lies with the Daz Original models.  They are't all perfect, but they seem to have the best amount of time and detail given to them.  My only grievance is now we need to buy HD Addons, too.  Even still, the upgrade in quality isn't enough for those to switch to G9.

And that's because many people are financially tied up in G8 compared to G9, and it's disheartening to have to buy all new products to support the new figure.  The best products will have support for 8, 8.1 and 9.  Then you add the increased system requirements to render within a reasonable time and I can understand why someone who's been using G8 or 8.1 wouldn't want to upgrade.

I say all of this because I'm tied up in a good bit of G9 content and when G10 eventually comes out, I'll be in the exact situation where I'm torn whether or not to buy all new stuff for figures with a small library to start out with.  It' very similar to the new Toon style, but at least with that, the shader makes everything relevant to a point.

This take highlights the importance and value of converter products and I can only hope when G10 comes out we get one relatively soon.

Despite the "bumpy" start, I knew G9 would be improved. The first ones I bought were from artists on another site, who took the time to make their own improvements. G9 has continued to improve to the point that I rarely buy assets that are limited to G8 (though I still buy G8s that I like). For me it's not a matter of G9 replacing G8; I use them alongside each other. Both have fabulous characters. Now we have the ability to convert clothing and hair (to varying degrees of success) between the two, which makes both even more versatile.

I hope not. I like G9 (and I like that I can switch between males and females without hassle), and I'd love to see more characters, outfits, and hair for them.

I'm experiencing a complete DAZ burnout. Not interested in the anime style and the rest of the stuff is skimpware and mediocre figures, and more of the same we had already. And I simply don't have the energy trying to figure out the various sales and how they might stack. I look at the new realeses to see if there is anything mildly interesting, then leave.

Sorry to read about your burnout...

Today has been a great sale day for me. I'm really glad to see the return of the Door Buster items- I was able to get a couple I had mised (Mandrakia Island for one). I was able to get two DO items for free, along with good discounts on some items new to my WL.

Almost seems like on the new gen 9 special creatures like otter people the old 8 versions just look better to me than the g9 versions.

Again I completely agree with you on the quality of a lot of the early gen 9 that were not DO. Early on in gen 9, so many of the non-DO characters looked so much worse than the good DO 8 and 8.1 figures. A hard issue with 8 to 9 was the change of figure structure so that conversion tools did not work as well as earlier versions primarily because of the unimesh, but personally I love the unimesh design for combining character morphs.

Here's a weird thing: could be perception but seems like no flash sales lately - all least none come to mind. Is that true?
