Okay thanks, then will I try to figure out how exactly I have to use the tutorial from the start page :D with all the edits and updates it's a bit confusing for my simple mind :)
The instructions on the first post are still wrong.
Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.
The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.
Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path
Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" folders
"These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading. "
Why got they then even installed O_o?
I will just delete them, I assume I shouldn't delete the folder "base pose head" or "Expressions", I will safely just delete the files inside now.
As far as I understand it (and, as far as I know, I was the first to find and post a fix), it's because Daz wanted to update G8.1's face controls without requiring vendors to have to support both sets of face controls.
Although it'd be nicer if Daz had found a way to set this up so that the installer could say "hey, you can still have these controls, but they're not officially supported on G8.1 characters, so you might get odd results", it would indeed be a bit much for vendors to have to do two sets of face testing and correctives.
As far as I understand, when Daz developed FACS ( those 52 "blend shapes" ) on G8.1 to support Face Cap via ARKit,FACS should've been with a well-designed naming convention for property Labels, just like Laylos' Face Mojo... Then leave it to the users to choose which and how to use them rather than defining dummy files to block G8.0' base facial and expression dials...
So I changed the Lables to differentiate them... and practically, if you can wisely dial these properties, you can well "mix" them.
Thanks for your feedback about your thoughts.
Thanks now it works :)
Silly that you have to go to these lengths really. I mostly work with gen 9 but sometimes I just need extra characters and the 8.1 ones I use are annoying as hell because of stuff like this. Will Daz ever fix this backward compatibility?
Most likely not, because disabling G8 expressions was done on purpose since there is a new system in G8.1. Hence why people who want to use the G8 ones have to use this procedure.
Updated to the latest 4.23 and had a meal of a time getting the G8 expressions to work on 8.1. However I think I managed it by just removing the base pose head and expression folders so it seems to be working
Apparently, this also hides in DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_42077\data\daz 3d\genesis 8\female 8_1\morphs\daz 3d and DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_42071\data\daz 3d\genesis 8\female 8_1\morphs\daz 3d and other, similar locations.
That is from installing the product with Daz Connect (that is, through Daz Studio itself).
