Really appreciatethe help here. Followed the updated opening instructions and all working perfectly. Inability to utilise 8.0 expressions was a constant source of frustration. Many thanks indeed!
Worked perfectly for me. Inability to utilise Gen 8 expressions for 8.1 was a real source of frustration. Thanks indeed for solving this!
I really can't make it work :(
Step 1: Navigate to My Library/data/Daz 3D/Genesis 8/Female 8_1/Morphs/Daz 3D
DONE
Step 2: Right-click the Base Pose Head folder (Or alternatively the FACS folder in the same location) and select "Send to zip"
DONE
Step 3: Right-click the Expressions folder (or the FACS Expressions folder in the same location) and select "Send to zip. " Now you should have two new zip files in the folder.
Step 4: Delete the unzipped Base Pose Head and Expressions folders. Daz will no longer be able to read the "dummy" files and the basic facial pose controls for Genesis 8 female will load with your Genesis 8.1 female figure.
DONE and DONE. But I have BOTH "Base Pose Head"/"Expressions" and "FACS"/"FACSExpressions" folders. Tried keeping one pair, then the other pair, then none... It never worked.
I found the damn content in the cloud folder, so I uninstalled everything from that Connect thingie and went offling, getting rid of the whole cloud folder. It isn't working, anyway :(
My poor 8.1 females hate Zeddicuss' expressions...
Anybody with an idea for a little help?
Thank you!
Sorry for waking up such an old thread, but I would like to understand why it's not working for me.
I followed all the steps (I've BOTH the Base Pose Head + Expression AND FACS + FACSExpressions folders, and tried to leave one pair, then the other, then none, with no luck).
I found that those folders were replicated on cloud folder then I went offline (and I am now permanently), uninstalling anything in it and getting rid of it. No luck, either, My Zeddicuss expressions won't work :(
Anyone with an idea for a little help?
Thank you!
What do you mean by deeklting pairs - you are meant to delete the folders, and their content, while leaving the zips, which are there as back ups. You do need to be using a non-Connect install method for this.
Yes, I deleted the pair "Base Pose Head + Expression" folders leaving the "FACS + FACSExpressions" folders, then I did the opposite, then I deleted both pairs but expressions never worked. And I'm running offline now, after uninstalling everything I installed with Connect (I deleted all my cloud folder and I'm not getting any load error, so I assume Daz Studio is not looking for its stuff there anymore)
I'm having the same issues. im deleting the files and its still not working...
edit: ok so i manage to get the genesis 8 expressions to work after deleting the cloud folders...but now the genesis 8.1 expressions aren't working!!! WHY?!!?
Because you deleted them, presumably - the /data/cloud/ folder is used by Daz Connect for products it isntalls - by the sound of it you had a Connect instalaltion and that was the root of the issue. For this trick to work I would think you need to use Install Manager or another non-DS method; for now find the Genesis 8 Starter essentials product in DS, right-click on its cotnainer, adn choose Uninstall - if there is a DIM, Daz Central, or manual install that should now work and the trick for loading expressions should also work.
Of coruse you will also need to reinstate any other products that were installed through Connect (no circled triangle icon on the product thumbnail) to get that content to work.
Came on to this one as I'm having some issues with 8.1 as well. Tried the above method and my FACS folders were in program files rather than the cloud connect. the genesis 8 morphs are not loaded when this is done and I even tried copying the eye morphs from genesis 8 to the 8.1 facs folder and I'm still not able to close the eyes properly. there must be something or several things I'm missing on this one.
Thanks big time certaintree38 for the info, I was a bit disappointed that Genesis 8.1 seemed to need a whole new set of expressions to work given all the money I'd spent on
Genesis i8's expressions!!
Posting this in case someone needs it - Note; if you are logging in to DS and have used DAZ Connect (inside DS) to update/Install stuff, this will not work as any and all DAZ Connect installed stuff overrides stuff installed with all the other methods.
----------
Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.
The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)
Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.
Content should never be in program Files, having it there may well cause issues.
Not quite the purpose of this thread maybe, but is there a way to get the G8.1 expressions on G8 figures? I got a G8.1 Poses and Expressions program for free and the poses seem to work nicely, but I would love to use the G8.1 expressions, too, but I don't do G8.1, so...
Ok so I figured out why my 8.1 expressions weren't working. do NOT delete yout FAC and FACexpressions folder as stated in the instructions on page one. instead ONLY delete (but keep a .zip backup) of the following:
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)
AND
if you have a cloud folder...delete those too (the files listed above - but back up a .zip, just in case...)
and both 8 and 8.1 expressions should now work.
Thanks. I've been meaning to try the instructions. I am glad you debugged them.
Glad I could help!
If I were to try it, I would move the G8.1 expressions to the G8 morph folders and edit the references and paths inside the morphfiles with Notepad++.
Haven't checked if G8.1 expressions actually require the face rig but if they do, it wouldn't be too hard to port that one either to work with the newly converted expressions.
Of course if one would be using G8.1 after this, there would be conflicts and problems as the expressions would be doubled.
Thanks @potatopealor, @cetaintreed for the original instructions.
I was getting all sorts of file missing errors and in the logs saw references to the FACS folder. Scrolled through this thread (Thinking of Dr. Strange, "Really should put the warnings at the begining of the spell...) and found you had discovered what I was going to try next.
Otherwise, seems to work great with the 3-4 characters I tried G8 expressions with.
Worked for me!
On MacOS, you need to right- click and choose "compress..." since there is no "send to zip" option.
If it's this easy, why hasn't DAZ done this so that we can use the 8 expressions on 8.1 more easily?
To be honest, that's the only reason I have not upgraded to any 8.1 figures yet. I have a lot of expression assets.
Sure would have been nice if they had made this possible. Seems like an easy enough thing to do.
8.1 expressions and skins not being "backward" compatible is understandable, but the expressions would have been nice.
Maybe because G8.1 has it's own expression system, the disabling of the base G8 expressions for G8.1 is done on purpose as that is the only function of the dummy/placeholder files placed in the G8.1 morph folders.
Dont know if this is the right thread but when i load a pose on a genesis 8.1 figure the 8.1 eyelashes dont follow the eyelids. They are always lower than they should be.The g8 eyelashes work fine though
Look it up on google with keywords like daz 3d g8.1 expressions on g8 daz central cloud...there's a thread somewhere in the commons about this that mentions you have to take certain files out of a folder to make the expressions work as well as the power pose. The issue is that there's a cloud folder from Daz Central that you have to take the same files out of on top of the other location and then it'll work perfectly. I sat down one night and spent like three hours scouring the forums to figure this out. It was easy to find the information on what files to take out, but the trick is taking out the files in the cloud folder and I can't remember what they were or where they're located. That was what really held me up was that whole folder. But if you search through everything, someone has the answer here with steps!
You only get the Cloud folder if you log in/sign in to DS and let DAZ Connect within DS to update/install stuff.
The location of the cloud folder can be found in Content Directory Manager under "Daz Connect Data" and the Cloud folder can be found if you navigate to whatever directory is listed in there and go to Data\Cloud.
the subfolders inside the Cloud folder are named "1_XXXXX", where the XXXXX is the SKU number of the product.
Thank you so much for this guide!
I had read it a while ago, but I was too lazy to delete the Connect install files and reinstall them through DIM etc. etc.
But it was a major cause of me preferring G8, because I couldn't find 8.1 specific sliders, so I ended up using full face expression, that are so much worse than the usual combination of different emotions and sliders I use with G8.
Now I can finally use my huge arsenal of G8 expressions on G8.1, and those characters I had created using G8.1 finally look human.
Thanks again! :D
PS: only downside, I liked the "Zero Pose Utility" zero expression, it doesn't work now. I'll revert to the old method of selecting the head, posing tab, currently used, alt+click on the sliders to set them to 0. (I know reset stuff exists, but it's too slow).
Shouldn't the expressions work if it says compatible with Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1? Mine doesn't....Will I still have to do all of this?
Ok, anyway this worked for me!
So thank you very much!
Did anyone try this on v4.20 yet? I hate upgrading in case they take it away!
Thanks!
I'm not sure it could be taken away.
Thanks, Richard. I worry about undocumented features, and it's great to know that.
Hello all, hope you guys are doing okay. I'll try and keep this as short as I can. Since I downloaded the lates update yesterday, my genesis 8 expressions does not work on my Genesis 8.1. Usually the old method fixes things. The Base Pose Head and all the other files are in folders. I used the Daz Central for downloading. Any ideas how to fix this? Has anyone else this issue?
Stay well and stay creative! 83
