UPDATE: Almost finished with the Cherry Pie shader, just need to make the cherries stick up a bit more. Here it is, applied to a plane primitive. I have to be honest, still not really sure what people will use these shaders for, but I've done 25 of them now, so hopefully they'll be someone's cup of tea for some purpose.

It is a very off-the-wall kind of product, but honestly, considering the quality of what I've seen here, coupled with the excellence in all of your other works that I own, I'll certainly be picking it up.

It actually looks quite useful in a practical sense - any scene with some food in it could benefit from these. And then you throw in some of the wild creativity people come up with, and I'm sure you're going to see some pretty unique images haha. I can't wait for them - they look awesome. You've really done a great job on these, from what you've shown us.

As for what they might get used for; I just was working on an illo which depicted an afternoon tea. I'd a nice little model of a glass jam pot, and ended up using jewel shaders from Marieah and Fisty's old gemologica package on the contents. It worked out rather nicely, but for a closeup it might have been nice to use a shader that was of actual food.

The answer will always be "for porn", no matter what you're making.

Since when does cherry pie require justification?

  • they can all be used to pimp up various legacy fantasy cottages and towns

Ahhh, thank you. That makes sense.

That's the sort of thing I imagined when I started making them, that and clothing made of food. Cheers!

My first thought for them would be to make food look more like food :) Though than there is of course a bunch of crazy things... "oohh my, did you see that cat over at the neighbor? It's made of watermelon" or something like that :)

You must be an incredible cook to create all these foods to photograph in the first place.

I dunno...I make a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich...

  • I suppose these could be used for horror stuff as well, because I applied the mac and cheese shader to the millenium cat as a test, and it's horrifying.

I've eaten soooooo much pie though. Not just because of Covid and lockdown, but also because I made a bunch of pies for this project. I should probably back away from the pie for a while...

Somehwere there are zombies who are going to be disappointed when they finally catch this cat and find out it is made of mac and cheese instead of the brains they were expecting.

  • Keep them coming.

    Actually...

Back to my afternoon tea illo. I've needed to do something in that line of country more than once before. And this relates to something someone started a thread about over in the PC+ forums.

There is a fairly large selections of models of baked goods around and about, if one looks for them. There are also are a number of models of various fairly hearty sandwiches. But there don't appear to be any models of things like the dainty sorts of "finger sandwiches" which are classic afternoon tea fare.

With proper shaders, one could build things like finger sandwiches from primitives (since the crusts are usually trimmed off), and apart from cucumber -- which is usually thinly sliced and idenifiable as sliced vegetable -- most of the fillings are things on the order of egg salad or other varieties of pastes, which could also be applied to primitives. Particularly with the kind of displacements that you are showing off here.

Ahahaha I love how instead of using these shaders on things that make sense you're just like "hmm...what if the cat was made out of mac and cheese??"

    Amazing.

    Ha, that is hilarious.

These are amazing. Food shaders have always been a massive disapointment for me in the past. I would use these on, well, food. Glorious food.

Whew! The honeycomb shader is finished. I've been testing it on everything in my library.
