We probably clashed, Chohole on uploads (I live in a remote part of the country and B-band is pathetically slow - usually, 5-10mintues delay, so hope it's okay). I would appreciate if you would let me know if attachment is still invisible.

    Cheers

    Jay

(from my slowed view, it loaded okay).

I know what you mean about slow broadband.  When we first moved up here I soon discovered that our area was in the top 12 worst broadband reception areas. I used to blame it on the mountains as the broadband (such as it ws) had to clamber up the mountain from the next valley over.        Luckily, just before we moved again up to this village (just over 2 years ago) they have managed to get fibre through.   When I phoned to get them to change our number etc over from that house to this one it turned out that this house didn't actually have a bt line connected,  but they said if I upgraded to the fast BB service they would put a line from the pole into the house for nothing.  I couldn't sigh up fast enough,  Fibre broadband and an introductory price for the first year and the line put in for free,   That saved around £130 for connecting the line for a start.

    Thanks, Chohole.

It's a bloody curse - especially during weekends and holidays, as the main distributor who rents out the line restricts us/me to pathetic speeds (downloads are generally slow, but uploads are, well, phew). This same crowd (Eir over Sky) is promising super, duper fibre-based speeds, but they are, as usual, 'all speak, no action'.

My son is in County Dublin, so he gets good service there, even though he's well away from the city.

BT  kept promising,  It did eventually arrive though. And we had the fun of watching a poor learner BT tech climbing up the telegraph pole to connect our line, in January with wind and flurries of snow.  First time he had ever climbed a pole he told us afterwards. The guy who was supervising sat in the van to supervise.  We are almost 1200 ft above sea level so it does get a wee bit breezy up here.

Jamahoney - ah, relationships and hopes can be as unreliable as Internet connections and this forum software.

  • JamahoneyJamahoney Posts: 1,791

Heh he, Horo...on the relationships/internet unreliability connection wink  Btw, the girl is a ghost, and as everyone knows they don't do reflections well cheeky

Jamahoney - yes, I've noticed that she's partly transparent and no mirrored image on the water. It often happens that our imagination doesn't produce something substantial. Your render leads to deep philosophical contemplations. wink

A Menger Sponge made in Structure Synth, partly transparent, with the HDRI in its centre, looking at it from the front (or a side, or top or bottom). A second sponge at some distance at the other side is visible through the centre hole.

Nice one, Hansmar...very trippy...I think someone has been taking tee many martoonies heh he cheeky

  • @Jamahoney: Great picture, nicely lit, and the characters look very good.

@Horo: Interesting and nicely done pic. Reminds me a bit of an artist you could buy pictures in the furniture shop in the 70's and 80's with a lot of colorful cubes.

@Hansmar: Looks good. I have the feeling of being in the movie "fantastic journey"

Horo . Really enjoying your wonderful terrain renders, they look so realistic. Particularly the second snow scene. I wanted to try and do some terrain in terrain, but unfortunately I do not understand the process, have you written anything about them in your website?  Also nice apophysis work. I like the third flame the best, remind me of golden sprigs . The arbaro forest turned out really well. Very nice lighting

Mermaid.- Excellent terrain in terrain render, glad you managed to save the image at least. It looks like a small town viewed from a plane. The fish freebie shows that you are getting quite good with lighting. As to E- Richter's tutorial on rendering apophysis  fractals in Bryce, I also had a look , but like you I don't get the grasp of the whole thing. Pity!! Nevertheless your apo flames look lovely. How did you load them into bryce.

Electro- Elvis - I really feel for the poor guy... All he needs is little sweat beads rolling down his face.

C-ram. Brilliant render... Would love to be a fairy and go for a visit to this magical place.

Jay - Very touching scene. The title is very well represented.

Hansmar - Nice abstract. very eyecatching.

Horo– nice render using the Arbaro trees. I downloaded the program from your site a long time ago but still don’t know how to use it. Love the Menger Sponge abstract.

Jay – awesome, amazing render, how did you do the ghost effect?

    Hansmar – lovely abstract.

Vivien – thanks for the nice comments.  Regarding the Apophysis fractals, I use the rendered image as a height map for a terrain or lattice, and use the same image to apply the material. Sometimes I will desaturate the rendered image and adjust the brightness and contrast and apply a bit of a blur to reduce the spikiness in Photoshop and use that for the height map. I love rendering Apophysis and JWildFire (another free program) flames/fractals in Bryce. I don’t make my own flames as the generated ones are awesome.  Most of my renders I upload on Pinterest but you need to have an account to view them properly. https://www.pinterest.com/maryole3/fractals/

Hansmar - certainly a cool abstract, it reminds me of something rubbery and biological ...

    Electro-Elvis - thank you.

vivien - thank you. Terrain in terrain, I have a video on the topic, the link and the illustrated transcript are on my website: Bryce & 3D CG Documents > Videos > Horo > 20. Stacking Terrains (nearly at the bottom of the page).

Mermaid - thank you. Arbaro is quite easy to use and if you click on any parameter, a small help pops up. You can also start with using a ready made tree (in the sub-folder tree). Exporting is a wee bit tricky. Export format Waveform (obj), locate where you want to export the file to, UV coordinates are not used; render appears to work only with Povray. When you import the OBJ file into Bryce, you find 3 meshes for the wood and 1 for the leaves. You can give them Bryce materials.

Many thanks Electro-Elvis, Vivien and Mermaid for the kind comments.

As to the ghost effect, Mermaid, I just put a green screen behind the girl on her own (you know how they do in the movies), and from there layered her, chromo-keyered her into the rest of the scene (guy, moongate, water etc.,) using a separate software. I did try to make her transparent in Bryce, but maps for the girl turned out weird.

Jamahoney: Thanks. The abstract looks very straight and normal to me; trippiness is in the mind of the beholder, is it not?

Electro-Elvis: Thank you, I guess. Not sure to what movie you refer. Don't seem to know it. Can you tell more about it?

    vivienmermaid010: my thanks.

Horo: Thank you. I can imagine, kind of transparent rubber indeed.

Horo - Thank you for the information, i'll certainly have a look

mermaid - Also thank you for your help. Had a look at your collection in pinterest, nice work. So  I grabbed 2 of my old apophysis images, made a height map for a terrain and rendered in Bryce

vivien - those Apo-based renders are fantastic. The top one looks like a pizza to me, the second one has a fairy touch to it. Really great renders.

That's a science fiction movie from the mid 60's where they shrink a submarine to a tiny object in order to put it into the bloodstream of patient.

@Vivien: First thanks for your comment. Second Great work. I see it different to Horo, (who seemed to be hungry, when he wrote his comment ;-) your first pic  has something of these indian pictures of gods.

@c-ram: Amazing render. and good use of displacement. If Daz really developpes a new Bryce version (big IF here), it would be nice they improve this function.

Horo - thanks, I'll try Arbaro again.

Jay - thanks for the explanation, I had to look up chromo-keyered, learning something new every day laugh

Vivien - your Apophysis renders are awesome. I think you made these fractals yourself, great fractals. smileyyes

Love the second one, Vivien...it has more a 3d look to it than the first: you and Bryce cetainly work well together in abstracts.

    Electro-Elvis: thanks for the info.

vivien: great abstract renders. I too like the second one best. Wonderful idea to use those fractals as height-map.

Hansmar - Electro-Elvis refers to the movie Fantastic Voyage based on the novel with the same name by Isaac Asimov, who wrote Fantastic Voyage II after the movie.

Another view of a Menger Sponge made in Structure Synth. In the world centre lit by the Rainbow HDRI from inside and also the camera is in the world centre with the EWL fixed on it so there is a FOV of 222 degrees. Around the Menger Sponge is a fully reflecting cube and all rendered with max Ray Depth set to 12.

Horo: Great graphical work. Looks like one of those test-pictures for old-fashioned televisions.

  • JamahoneyJamahoney Posts: 1,791

Super, Horo - an anaglyph, I suspect, would 'bulge' it out towards the viewer.

I could not refrain from making yet another abstract. Rather dark one, this time. I used a couple of metaballs that I 3D-dispersed and surrounded them with a cube that is fully reflective, but has some transparency. Light from several spotlights and an abstract HDRI. I made another one (further from the metaballs) and called it 'invasion of the body snatchers', which is at Deviantart and one with another sky and no transparency on the cube, with panoramic rendering, at Renderosity. Enjoy. This one is '' Almost got you'.

Horo - Thank you for you kind comment, I can sort of see how the first one might resemble a pizza, but I tend to go more for electro-elvis interpretation of indian gods.

As per your menger sponge  I agree  with hansmar, it does look like a test pattern. I do like the fact that in parts it looks like it is bulging out and some are parts seem to draw you into the image.

Electro - Elvis - Thanks for commenting

mermaid -  Thank you. And yes, they are all mine. Before I ventured into Bryce, all I use to do is fractals, not that I knew the workings of the programs, I was more of the type of moving triangles until I found something that I liked or following tutorials and getting them all wrong but with pleasant results.

Jay - Thank you. . As  I was explaining to mermaid, the second was a tutorial gone wrong. The image was supposed to be flat, but I have no idea what I did to it and it became more 3d.

Hansmar - Thank you. I like your abstract it has a mercury feel to it, reminds me of the liquid character from the movie Terminator Genisys

More digging into my apo files and found this one.. I applied turbulant waters from the bryce library to make it look like a fountain.
