Thanks Horo, Jay and Hansmar. I do use LAA and only suffer a crash very occasionally, but I think it will be a good idea to get into the habit of saving more often.
I don’t know if this is a bug or not – when I save a sky and there is no Hdri associated with it, there is an “H” in the icon for the saved sky in the Library.
Horo- love the Receding Glaizer very realistic.
Super, Horo...almost photographic - all it now needs is some skiers
Jay
Horo: Don't put those photos up here! This is a Bryce forum. Oh, it is Bryce? Wonderful realism! (And, of course, no April's fool praise from me.)
sriesch - thank you.
mermaid - thank you.
Jamahoney - thank you.
Hansmar - thank you.
End of photographs on request e-richter inspired me to get back to Apophysis and try using a flame for a terrain. IBL lit with soft IBL shadows.
Again an Apophysis flame made to a terrain (just terrain, not lattice). The flame was also used as material but with a lot (PHT boosted) specular. The IBLg_LA HDRI provides the very dim background, light and specular. The sun is in the zenith with negative diffuse and negative specular to give more variety to the colour. From underneath the reflecting ground plane a red parallel light with infinite width illuminates the underside.
Horo- nice examples of Apophysis fractals. The first looks more like ½ a crocodile with its mouth open and the foreground part as its mouth closed.
For the past few days I tried to follow E-Richter’s tutorial on rendering Apophysis Fractals in Bryce, but don’t understand the Bryce part of it, despite the images. Did anyone else try it?
A still using a freebie
The Fish
Horo Nice fractal. I Just checked out Apophysis flame, cool free app. It looks like some of the presets were made in KPT 5 FraxFlame. I just got Flame Painter Pro. For adding post effects. But now I'm thinking pre work too. There's a very limited free online trail version of it here.
Mermaid - thank you. No, I haven't tried Richter's example because I stick to Bryce and am very bad at post processing, though the results can be beautiful. Your fish looks great, very nicely lit and I like the floor.
S Ray - thank you and thank you for the link.
I gave it another try with Apophysis and made a symmetrical lattice from it, the just copied, rotated and moved it. So the object is twice the same.
Excellent render... simple yet captivating.I do have a question... the Nordic hair I have used myself, but the realism of the hair is lacking, the strands individual transpaaarency does not import from Daz|Studio with the realism I see above. How do you do it?
Horo – thanks. Another cool Apophysis render.
It’s fun to play with Apophysis, I also use Jwildfire. Sometimes I will desaturate the render and adjust the brightness and contrast and apply a bit of a blur to reduce the spikiness, and use that for the height map and then bring it into Bryce. E-Ritcher’s method has a very nice soft look which I like, but failed to achieve.
These Apophysis Fractals I rendered a while ago.
"He met a strange lady, she made him nervous."
Light comes from the Bryce sun. Rendered with TA with 36 rpp.
Hi Brycescaper
I have the problem with all hairs I import from Daz3D. The reason is, that the transparancy maps are not filled in the alpha channel. Therefore a character looks a bit odd, after the import, like that...
To fix the hair select a part of the hair and then open the Material Lab. Click on the tiny P button in the texture of the transparency channel (to select the Image Texture mode) and then on the tiny Texture Source Editor button just above.
After the clicking you should see the Deep Texture Editor (or something similar like the picture below). Now you have to copy the material in the Diffuse channel (1) (on the left side) to the transparency channel (2) (in the middle).
Afterwards it should look similar like the following picture.
If you like you can just change now the other hair parts accordingly, e.g. the eyelashes and the hair cap. When you have finished. Leave the Material Lab and render your picture. If you get a peculiar result, simply click in the Edit Menu the Undo function once and then render again. Sometimes Bryce get a bit confuse, when you change a lot of transparency maps. The interesting thing is, once you have set them properly they remain correctly. This means you could delete your character and reimport it again, and now the hair looks fine because the transparency maps are still set properly.
Hope it helps.
Mermaid - thank you. Very nice Apophysis objects and nicely presented.
Electro-Elvis - Well done, the poses are excellent.
Another Apophysis based render made to a terrain. All materials are metals on this weird world. Ambient light and backdrop from an HDRI I faked from a complete deep sky panorama.
Horo and Mermaid : your mix of Apophysis and bryce renders are awesome, contemporary artwork! They all could take place on some printed canvas.
Another render now. In another style, here's a still life picture. I have use a lot of megascan stuff here. The mushrooms, a dead wood covered by moss and of course the textures. For the first time, I have employed displacement mapping to render the mushrooms. This gives more realistic feeling to the scene to me.
The background is made of some speedtree models and some xfrog plants. Pine cone and butterfly are coming from sketchfab. Dandelion from VP real grass.
Minor color adjustment with Photoshop. T A render with scattering correction and boost light on, depth of field. 256 rays per pixels.
c-ram - thank you Marco. Another awesome render from you, almost like a fairy forest. Everything looks so natural. DOF is excellent, I checked my photographs from butterflies and they have a much narrower depth of field but then, I used a 300 mm lens with a relatively wide aperture. Your render looks like taken with a 50 mm lens or so and a smaller aperture according to the less narow DOF. It looks so natural that I started to search for small bugs like ants and things.
mermaid010: Wonderful fish render. Really like the floor you used. And very nice Apohysis/render works.
Horo: Beautiful Apohysis/render combinations. I think the one below Mermaid's fish is the best. Great, featherly work. The others are very good too.
Electro-Elvis: Nice render. I can understand his nerves. Trying to keep looking at her face instead of wondering into the depths of that cleavage!
c-ram: Oh, man, that is so nice! Fantastic POV, great detail, wonderful butterfly and dandelions and superb use of depth. Outstanding Brycing!
Thank you Horo! Check your mail.
Thank you Hansmar, I have take a lot of pleasure while fucusing on this little piece of forest.
Butterfly can be downloaded for free here:

Thanks c-ram: I will check out that site (one I wasn't aware of yet).
Electro-elvis – nice render especially the poses.
Horo- thanks. Another nice Apophysis render.
C-ram – thanks. Beautiful render
Hansmar- thanks the material for the floor is from Bryce5.com
Three Arbaro trees, two of them each trice manually instanced and two Bryce trees for the grass, one after Alexey's method and one after David's. A mirror cube that fades to transparency upwards surrounds the trees. Arbaro trees have mesh leaves like Bryce trees and here they are set translucent with 90% transparency. Key light by the sun and ambient light by an HDRI.
Horo: Nice tree work. Of course, the trees do not look as realistic as the Speedtree ones. But hé, the price tag is quite different too (Arboro being free).
Hansmar - thank you. Yes, Arbaro states the trees look real when viewed from 50 metres away.
The transparency works very nice, Horo, a great work indeed.
On a seperate path: while the film of the title below was somewhat average, that title suggested another theme: a sense of loss, of one still trying to hang on. Eeerie?

Jamahoney: I get an error sign instead of your render.
"I get an error sign instead of your render"
Apologies, Hansmar - possibly due to my fault, as I was uploading revised versions (bump on the water etc.,).
Hope it's working now?

nope, no attachment and no render showing. You do need the attachment for the render to show.
