edited March 2016 in Daz PA Commercial Products

These portrait lights were created for mid tone to tan skins and span even shadows to sharp dramatic ones. All of the promos were done with no post work or adjustment to any settings. There is information about use in the read me but if there are any questions feel free to ask.

Did the store title say "for Iray" when they were released?

I swear I looked at these for a whlie trying to figure out if they were Iray or not.

I must be losing my focus in my years.

Anywho, will pick these up tonight for sure.

Glad you posted a commercial thread.

      :)

I think it was released without, but quickly changed when it was noticed.

These two images were done with Khory's lovely lights.  I have done some camera raw corrections to them.

It was not you it was me ... I realized after release that I had not added the for Iray and they were kind enough to fix it for me on the fly today. I try and put that for iray thing in the title so its really clear.

And yes, I was thinking of you when I posted this Ippotamus when I got all brave and started the thread. If you have any questions let me know.

    Aww, thanks Khory.

    I'm just glad I'm not losing it :)  :)

@Khory  I like the light set.  I especially like some of the promos where most of the figure is dark and ony the head is lit up. If I'm lucky, I might be able to pick up this and maybe a couple of others during the catchup sale.  I pick up light sets because I'm still so bad at lighting at times.  I couldn't do without good sets like this.  Just wanted to let you know that I think it looks great even if I can't get it immediately.

@Chris I am wondering what "camera raw corrections" are, though?  I have heard the term a couple of times now, but no one ever says what that is or what exactly they are doing.

Thank you Knittingmommy. I suspect I did the set as much because it was something I wanted as something I thought other people needed. I've always loved images where the upper body/head was highlighted myself.

Immediately bought. Excellent product, worth every penny. Trying, feverishly, to write a cogent blog post that isn't simply gushing praise.

You make me blush evilded777! Tell me more! Kidding ..ish. -grin- I'm just happy that someone else sees them the way I do. I really wanted some lights I could just load and do renders with and not have to fix anything. Of course when I did all those promos so fast I started to panic because it seemed way too easy. Seriously though, thank you so much for the complement.

The post is basically written, I need to do some of my own renders (shouldn't take long) to illustrate.  Tonight... tomorrow at the latest.  I'll be sure to share here as well as my other usual haunts.  This is a game changer and I am hoping to convince people how important it is.

Camera Raw is in Photoshop.  It's most effective on photographs take with camera raw which means it contains a lot more information in the photo that can made use of.  However, it will work to a degree on other types of images.  Most of us have used what's in camera raw as isolated elements:  levels, curves, sharpening, contrast, exposure...so these are all available in one filter with camera raw.  The cool thing is you can also see before and after, side by side, plus paint areas where you want to affect if you don't want something applied overall and much more.  If you have Photoshop (I think it's in as far back as CS6), it's really worth looking into.

    @evil  I agree...these are really gorgeous lights.

Okay.  I use those in Gimp, the isolated elements.  I'm still learning how to do postwork, but I'm getting better at it.  I'm not sure if Gimp has a similar Camera Raw filter.  I'll have to look into that.  I don't have Photoshop.  Thank you for the explanation.  :)

Paintshop has a smart photo fix that is a bit like that. Not quite as complex mind you, but more complex than it was in my old version of the program. I didn't realize it had had an update till I looked just now.

    Scintillant Portrait Lights

I think this is one of the most important lighting products released since the debut of Iray in Studio. Took me longer than I wanted to write this...just bought a house...had a headache for 4 days. Did two quick renders. The darker one could use a touch of post...but, I wanted them untouched.

Just bought a house? Ugh, I know that stress. Take care/good luck. ;)

Thank you evilded777. Love the renders. The second one is a bit dark, but I really like that render because it reminds me strongly of an image I saw many years ago on one of the model competition shows. That back lighting was surprisingly hard to get sorted. Soon as you start lighting the front up the back lighting starts to be not as interesting. I have to say I am pretty thrilled with how much you like these. I knew I liked them. And I knew my friends said they liked them. But you never really know if the world will like them. Sort of like having a child really. That is a long time to have a head ache. Hope it clears up pronto. Congrats on the new house which no doubt has stressed you out so much you have a 4 day head ache.

Glad you like them Khory, I'm not as pleased as I might be.. .but I did want simple representations of what the lights do (and I should state that... they are quick, mostly out of the box renders).  I did tweak the setup on Gianni... so that is not out of the box, but I loved the positioning of the lights in that rig, so I just played a little to get the effect I wanted. Shared this all over FB and DA.

    headache is gone...

thanks for the well wishes Khory and Will.

Really nice lights Khory, I'm so glad I picked them up.
Below just a quick render, no fiddling, no postwork not even 3 mins to render, so I'm really happy and look forward to getting a whole lot of use out of this product

Thank you Shanina! I love the image. I really wanted them to work as close to "out of the box" as possible. Not just with them but with the skin's as well. I know one of the things that tires me out is feeling like I have touched everything in a scene several times before I get it all sorted. So, it really thrills me when I see someone else able to do just that.

Evilded, I read your review and I'm trying to resist saying something uber geeky like "oh he gets it!". I expected to have to adjust some of the tone mapping brighter because for all intents and purposes these are 100% indoor lights. What I did not expect was that I would need to adjust the other direction to get the sort of deeper shadowing for them to have the drama that I wanted out of them. Iray is really good at bouncing that light around. I found it a bit ironic that you think some of the lights are over bright because if I am going to get a note from Art it is going to be that my promos are not bright enough. Many of the light setups in this group were outside my normal box. I tended to shoot for soft, even shadows in the past for example. By the time I finished the set I was really loving those shadows though.

Edit to fix a crazy miss spelling..arggg.

I've picked these up and looking forward to start playing with them when my current render finally finishes. Easy lighting solutions are a much needed tool for me so I have to say thank you for making this!

Please note I said they were bright for my taste! I was careful to say that. I have... unique requirements :)

Evilded, I really did not take it at all amiss. If anything its good news since I tend to head the other way all to often. Seeing things from other peoples view point is important if we hope to grow as an artist so hearing alternate view points is important.

I have to say that this is in the wishlist, but I'm already regretting not getting it so will definitely try to get it if there is a catchup sale of some kind.  While I thought it looked good and exactly the type of lighting I like to invest in, I couldn't see how it was any different that the excellent light sets I already had in my library.  Then I read eviled777's review and I wish I had read it sooner.  I have to say with all of the light sets I have, I ALWAYS have to go in and fix tonemapping and other settings that affect how the camera sees what is in my scene.  I don't even know how I missed that sentence about tone mapping in the description.  Because that is huge!

So, I will be doing my best to get this should there be a catchup sale because, unfortunately, it was already out of all of the Mad categories by the time I figured out that, YES!, I need this.  My apologies, Khory, for not realizing how brilliant you are the first time around.  wink

I do not dare post my first two attempts as I messed up with the presets for the character's skin making it look rather awful. This one came out acceptable though, I think. It's the new Lorellin character with Katharina hair.

I'll be using these lights a lot more, that is for sure!

    Lovely render Fastbike1!

Knittingmommy.. We all make mistakes.. Why yes, I am that much of a smart arse in real life. The truth is more like I'm not the least bit good at writing the text for products so that it really explains everything well. I suspect most people skipped over the part about skin tone as well as the part about tone mapping because they are both sort of non tradional handling for light sets. In fact I was a bit worried that doing a set of lights for a skin tone rage would limit the product too much, and that adding the tone mapping settings would actually overwhelm people a bit and they wouldn't want to use the set. The inner thoughts of contentent creators, always fraught with odd insecurities!

Very cool render isidorn! I'm so bad at adding a dynamic quality to my images and you did such a good job with that. One of the coolest things about being a PA is seeing your products used by someone else. I know how they look when I use them but then I see how other people use them and it gives me a whole new out look on them.

I am so happy with these lights.

    Nice, simple studio background.

Just looking at the colors, I knew what I wanted to do.

This particular set up gave a nice, clear light and softer shadows.

    Love it, Khory.

See!  Wasn't this thread fun.  :)

I'm also so very happy with these lights, especially now that I've realised what the tone mapping settings doblush I have to admit I had missed that part earlier.

I went for brighter lights but a "darker" scene with this. I made some colour adjustments in post but I quite liked the "raw" render too, so I'm attaching that too.

That's okay, I can handle smartarsserie (new word I just made up). wink  I can admit when I made a mistake!  I'll just make sure that next time I look closer before the good discounts disappear!  Crossing fingers for a catch up sale!  As for the other, I think adding those things are what I want to see most in the product and, hopefully, have a chance to take advantage of it soon.

Adorable image Ippotamus. She has such a sweet expression. The falling leaves is a brilliant use of them I doubt I would have come up with myself.  And, you were right. I totally stink at self promotion though so don't expect me to get all brave too often.

I really like that image isidorn. Going with the brighter light and all that white for a darker theme is really was smart and it looks super good. The nails are a really nice touch by the way.
