I'm comparing with the advent calendar here, not with PA freebies that i do apreciate and also are available for everyone.
And the complaint is the unnesesary complication (and hidden information) of 'who gets what' from daz.
I looked on 3DShards and I don't feel like I missed anything. I haven't taken all the gifts from here, either.
I think it really comes down to how much buying you intend to do. Without a membership, daily purchases are pretty expensive, as you've seen. Also as you noted, even this Holiday sale isn't as attractive without a membership. If you plan on buying something occasionally, then 30% off of high prices might not be so bad, and probably not worth the membership. I think the more "targeted" approach, a membership during the Holiday sale or other major sale makes sense in terms of maximizing your membership fee.
I think todays Premier offer looks favorable. Has anyone done it? Are their restrictions on the DO items for the $20 gift?
We'll revisit this after oyu've had the time to peruse the forums a bit more (chuckles)
I am not sure how the selection for the personal items work - on two days I got for free items that i pondered to buy just a few days before, having them in my cart and then on the wishlist, while on other days the free item is useless (poses or textures exclusively for items I neither own nor are interested in) and the $2.99 is rarely usefull - and if so, priced without discount at $2.99 which did not make it a feasable option yet. Still happy about the two hits and not angry about the misses. Its free stuff, AND in addition to the daily general freebies.
But aren't the 3dShards freebies basically PA freebies, just packaged up in an advent calendar wrapping?
As I understand it:
3dShards: "Advent calendar" = 1 daily PA freebie
Rendo: "Christmas Giveaway" = 2 (and sometimes more) daily PA freebies
Daz: "PA freebies" = 1 or 2 daily PA freebies, plus "Advent calendar" = 1 daily company-owned $3 item, plus possible either/or choice of 1 daily company-owned freebie, dependent on previous purchase, which may or may not be on your WL
I do agree that the advent calendar here is unnecessarily complicated and vague, and it looks kinda grinchy that they put a paywall on giving out their own products when PAs are doing it for free. But I'm not seeing an equivalent of company-owned daily giveaways on the other sites. (Are there even DO equivalents there? I don't shop the other places, so...)
Cheers to that!
Theoretically, RPublishing is like DO on Rendo. I say theoretically because Daz is a lot more generous with discounts on DO items than RPub ever is. It seems volume there is a lot lower than here. OTOH, you do get direct access to their PAs via site mail. PAs I've contacted have been super friendly and have sometimes gone above and beyond. Some of the PAs there are, of course, PAs here and on other sites. Both sites have their benefits. I like Rendo. I hope they prosper. They have strong ongoing support for G8 and their pricing is reasonable - Not as generous as here, but not bank-breaking, either. They also have a lot of weird stuff.
In terms of PA freebies, sure all look like same kind of freebie, tho most days rendo has the upper hand with several G8 characters, some environments and less christmas themed stuff.
My issue is not that DAZ does not offer the same, is 'how' it tried their own version. In fact, while still keeping the PA freebies, there could be no 'calendar' here and i would have no issue. But THIS calendar made me feel bad; it may look like its giving you what you wanted for free, but with all the restrictions and all the hidden criteria in the end feels discriminative. Guess i'm on the DAZ naugthy list.
OK! What I've seen is, already-premier people are unhappy and having trouble with their $10 premier-treatment banner. That's fixed except for people who didn't get it. People subscribing today say the coupon for the $20 wasn't working. I assume that will be resolved. More to the point, it appears that a lot of DO stuff is not on sale - At least the DO stuff on my WL. So the $20 bonus won't necessarily go that far. Since you are chuckling about it, what problems do you see?
A freebie is a freebie and you never know when you may use one you collected in past, so in my library all of them go :)
I understand. Do enjoy!
With respect to premier, 30 days is 30 days, no? If I buy today they won't bill me again on Jan 1, will they?
In my experience Premier is billed from the day you subscribed, not the start of a new month.
Thank you!
Yes, and in end at midnight from your timezone, not Daz midnight.
Yes after 30 days or Jan 1?
After 30 days. I took my 3 month upgrade offer on the 31st October and it expires 31st January.
Thank you for the corroboration!
Ok. I found the answer about DO limitations on today's special Premier coupons in the Reporting thread. For both the $10 and the $20, apparently, the coupons do not work on bundles. >_> Oh well. Disappointing, maybe not a total deal breaker. It's my day to spend $$ to get free stuff day for the next 4 days, anyway. I suppose I'll get to see what a little Premier time does for me, after all.
as much as my mind tells me not to join, my pocketbook tells me its a no brainer. The one question I still have, do you sign up as directed and then use that $20 coupon afterwards? I guess there's no way to use it in conjunction with renewing though. Its basically a free month though if it possible to find something for under $20 that isn't 15 years old.
As it is now, everything on my WL that's over $26 is the old stuff, which surprised me, actually. There are quite a few new items (I'm including "Still New") that come in at $20 or less. This is a result of small discounts (30%). I guess it all depends on what kind of things you want to buy.
This Premier thing feels more like placing a bet than making a rational purchase decision...
Agreed.
The odds are -somewhat- better than average, with the possibility of "big" sales for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, day-After, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day... of course, IIRC New Year's went by without so much as a whimper last year, and whatever the "big" sale is might not be appealling once it arrives.
And anyone with time remaining on D+ still can't take it without nuking what they have left, as far as I'm aware.
All true. I'm looking at it more from the sure-thing perspective - I think the 2 bundles, 2x $10 DO coupons, and the $20 sign-up sweetener (guaranteed good for something!) should make the one-month fee into something worth the effort, regardless of whatever else happens. I could still be wrong... The loss of remaining D+ time is still rotten. It just so happens, I ran out last week.
You do sign up for Premier. You can then immediately use that $ 20.- on DO items, shown in a list, which contains a shipload of DAZ+ items and bundles, for which the code DOESN'T work. In addition, it seems that the 3 punches you might have gathered, which would be supposed to give you a nice 40% off your shopping card DON'T WORK for that card, so you lose $ 8.- in potential shopping power.
OTOH you can use the monthly $ 10.- off DO items coupon (for a different shopping card) for December and January (when You do intend to stay Premier), and can use the $ 10.- when buy $ 25.- worth of items twice, too. So by joining Premier for a month at ~ $ 18.95 (or so) you can get free stuff for $ 60.- without even mentioning the free weekly DAZ+ items, you also can get...
So, yeah, for me that checked out... of course I immediately stopped the automatic payment option at PayPal and so my Premier subscription will end on the 23rd of January 2025 (as it says on my Membership tab)
You can use the code for part payment on a more expensive item.
So, those of us who have been Premier members longest get the short end of the stick and only $10 worth of DOs instead of $20 worth.
That's where I am. I still have a year on my original Daz+ membership, and it just isn't worth it to switch over for one month, which was all I was offered. Mathematically, I think Premier works out if you buy reasonably frequently, but speaking for myself, I have bought so much that I don't know how much more I need to buy. I think my big-buy days are more behind me than in front of me.
