that's crazy! seriously. I can't imagine why they would be hesitant about them, they're excellent. The ONLY reason I haven't nabbed these guys yet is purely financial (I have about 30cents in my bank account till next payday) Otherwise I would have jumped on them already. Make me kinda mad actually, cos it feels like DAZ is dictating to us what we can buy.
I WILL be buying these robots next week on payday tho, rest assured of that!!!!

Well, I am always coming up against the argument from Daz that things like this wont sell and yes compared to a bikini they don’t. But I keep trying to broaden the market and over time they should do OK. I wish there was more demand and by that more opportunity to do the type of products I would like to try out. I am happy doing more serious robots and villains but I don’t want it to be the only option because of what may or may not sell. So Daz isn’t wrong in what they are saying I just wish that they were. I’m not sure how they would do at other sites, so much is a shot in the dark theses days.
I say this, because I want you to know, that PA’s who look like they are not pushing the envelope are not playing safe they literally can’t afford to take that chance. Given the time it takes to create a project a PA can actually lose money when it doesn’t sell well. The folks who are reading this are not the problem!!! It’s all the buyers who are clamoring for more of the same. “More Black Pencil Dresses!!!” Well, you know what I mean. I do what I do because I like what I do and that is its own reward. If I didn’t have to spend money I wouldn’t give a wit about making it. : )
It's tricky.
Because once you leave the hot center of 'a bunch of people buying sexy girl stuff,' you are out in a strange field where interests are more diverse and cooler. I mean, I'm doing a scifi webcomic. But scifi and other genres tend to be diverse in visual style -- if someone has zapguns and globby robots, 2/3 of the scifi content just isn't for them. Same with someone with hard tech. Or futuristic tech (who likes Atlantida stuff but not more industrial looking stuff). For every 10 scifi fans, maybe 1 or 2 want any given scifi product.
And THEN you have to contend with the usual 'how hot is someone on getting something new?' Personally, unless I must must have it NAO, I'm going to wait until it hits 60-90% sale. I have stuff that's been wishlisted for months, that I really want, just because the sales on the items have either never been significant or not coincided with when I have money.
I spent a lot of money already on stuff that's on steeper sale and that have more potential use, and mini-bots came out too late for me to budget for it.
I plan on getting mini-bots next month... unless it's no longer on sale, at which point I'll wait until it's eventually on sale (30% off is a bit on the... expensive side for something I don't need, but I could make use of it and I like ANTFarm and want to encourage you guys making cool stuff).
I wish great luck, but... it's a rough market.
And, addendum, I admire the folks who buck the trend and expand the market. I might grab a strange assortment, but if all that was available was Doll # 1-56, I don't know if I'd still be doing this.
in scifi there's all kind of robots and these would fit in many scifi renders just gotta use imagination but they're well suited for many from the looks of them certainly a Star Wars style universe and even be used as they say scary intimtating looking bots with the right lighting, camera angles and imagination too. In a futuristic world you need a variety of different types/looks of bots for different situations and scenes and of course there's the good old kit bashing different things hopefully I can get these myself soon
My kids thought these would be perfect for Bot Racing. Favorite past time out in the scifi colonies. :-)
Totally agree with the whole broadening of the market. Variety is the spice of life! It becomes a self fulfilling prophesy. If a customer shows up looking for something different from the standard fare, if they can't find it, cause we don't have it, they'll go looking elsewhere. And they may never come back.
I decided living on noodles until x-mas isn't a bad thing for supporting a good cause, so I picked these up today.
Threw something simple together, that might be inspired by a painting from a famous artist...

I also really appreciate The AntFarm. I can not count the times I have seen one of his new releases and thought is was just so original, creative and ... absolutely inspiring. You can tell he wanted to make this odd and wonderful thing and its sole reason for being was not just to make money ... though he needs to do that as much as anyone else.
I could start a rant here about the state of things. But that would not be a new conversation and it would change absolutely nothing.
So instead and again, thanks just ever so much AntFarm for doing the things that you do.

I could have filled this image with more of Antfarm's pieces, but as it is going to be used in a work when burned longer, I had to stop with these because of time constraints. M7 in Knit Gear, Space Wrecked Construction Kit, Centurion AD, and the Mini-Bots excited to learn Heavy Mechs are coming soon.
When I look through my runtime, the number of items from The Antfarm are numerous and many, spanning so many different genres. I guess I'm one of those that appreciates the vendor's diverse interests and skills, and look forward to the quality scenes or models of whatever comes next.
What Will said! DAZ's promotions can be so frustrating at times. Personally speaking, as a stay-at-home dad, my personal allowance for purchasing products isn't what it could be if I were gainfully employed. While I'm blessed with a wife who looks the other way with my purchases, most times there's a lot of agonizing I go through when I make a purchase.
To AntMan: Your stuff has so much character to it, that I'm drawn to it. Plus it's fun! Your Crab Mech was something I didn't know I wanted until you released it! And the Never Town series of sets reminded me so much of certain areas of the City of Heroes/Villains game that I mentally have them set aside for adventures in that kind of environment. And the Hydro Locks are a perfect place to stop some nefarious evil-doer from poisoning the city's water supply. One of the things I enjoy about your products is that they're good for telling stories. Some vendors have what amounts to props for posing but don't feel like real environments and don't feel like they make sense. Your environments are places where adventures and stories can take place, and I always always always keep an eye out for any new releases you might spring on us. And your robots and other props tend to be very modular so I can mix and match them with other sets to make cool new things; I think I have in my files somewhere an experiment where I mixed your PiranhaBot with a disembodied brain to make an evil villain, but that might have been two or three hard drive crashes ago so I might have to re-create it. So, thank you for this robot set. I hope to get it before the sale runs out, but with the holidays here I may have to wishlist this set to pick up later.
I don't have a lot of AntFarm stuff YET, but probably half of the rest is on my wishlist...
Stuff I have so far: Genesis 2 Raven, Deathcap, Temple of a Lesser King.
Stuff I want: Holy poot. Half of the robots (the very steampunky robots not so much for my purposes, but things like the Squidmech? Mmm tasty). The environments, then some of the more exotic weird stuff, like Baba Yaga's hut, plant man, and the rock guy.
Hmm.
Thinking about it, I vow for my next budget cycle that, in addition to anything I've wanted for 6 months that are finally on 60%+ sale, I will only buy AntFarm stuff!

Hehe, I threw it in here too after I had entered it in the contest. But yes, anyone reading this thread should follow the links in Novica's signature and vote, and why not join the new contest too? I think a lot of AntFarm's stuff would fit very well with the new statements for the new contest. :)
This makes me extremely sad. And mad. It also gives me more of an insight into WHY there are 14 bikinis for G3F, instead of something different. So thank you for explaining that bit about why there's not more pushing of the envelope. In fact, seeing you explain this - something that I've wondered about for the longest time - has made me so sad and upset that I'm kind on the verge of giving up art all together. Or rather, buying digital content maybe. When the umpteenth pretty white girl with blue eyeshadow and red lipstick hits the store - following along from teh sixteen billion before that - I am on teh verge of tears. And then you released "Jane Doe" and my god,you seriously cannot comprehend HOW excited I was to see that, and how quick I was to hit the buy button and how supersonicly fast I loaded her up and started playing with her. And I know your preferred creating is of creatures and props and not necessarily female figures, but honestly, with that one product alone, you shot up into my #1 position for most favourite and most creative and most innovative and unique vendor on my list. And I"m spitting chips that you seem to be getting blocked from creating more brilliant and different and unique products and almost made to toe the party line of making things we've seen a hundred times before adn I'm STILL friggin' mad I dont have enough to buy these brilliant robots because, thank you $900 sudden car repair bill and christmas happening at the same time along with the looming new computer I've dreamt of for a year and saved for and now have to come up with ANOTHER $500 on top of it to actually get it......and you come out with these wonderful robots and are told "oh duh....they probably won't sell cos no-one has done this before..." AAAAAAAAARGH.
Oh. Sorry. I ranted a bit too much there. :blush: But gosh, AntFarm, I just want YOU to keep pushing that envelope, cos another bloody bikini will make me scream and quit this whole damn digital art thing. You've got NO idea how much I really appreciate you and what you create.

The Heavy Mech is great... but he can get a little sad after a big battle and that's when you need a Bot-Whisperer to cheer him up for the next one. Thanks again Antfarm, a fantastic model that works well in so many different scenes.
