A little something old and something new, both new to me: the Militaria Outfit bundle and the Victorian Street Front. The former came out a few days ago and includes this cool retro uniform set with its retro weapons - the swords seen here and a rifle and bayonet; extra textures; and two different pose sets. Victorian Street Front is one of the oldest items in the Daz store with a release date of exactly 19 years ago: 12/3/2004.

Wow, pretty amazing how the old shopfronts hold up.
The uniforms appear to drape well. Is the fringing on the shoulder pads individual strands?
These uniforms present some dForce challenges. The particular problem I ran into (especially with this skirt) is that they are kind of "sticky" and I'm not fully sure how to work around that. But, they are beautiful and unique. There are tons of texture options and where else can you get a historic rifle and bayonet for G9? I'm glad I picked up the bundle.
Yes, as seen here, the epaulettes consist of numerous strands that dForce as individual strands.
I converted the old Store Front with RSSY 3Delight to Iray utility, then saved it as a scene subset so I can load it as an Iray item to an existing scene. For the snow and glass, I updated the stock RSSY substitutions with some shaders that I wanted to try out anyway. I really love to give new life to worthy but ancient products like this one.
‘Just get there, take and keep control of the ford, they said.’
‘Scouts saw no ones here, they said.’
Keeping his sword high in a defiance gesture, he was trying to regain his footing while everyone else was running or swimming for their lives before the fiery fury of the sorceress who was where no one was supposed to be.
‘With my luck, the charm against magic I bought a week ago will not work against fire…’
I got Trish last month, a couple of days after Victoria 7 was highly discounted, the textures for the armor as a free gift from the Advent Calendar and the pose for the narrator (in golden armor, on the ground) at the end of November, when the Daz Dragon 3 bundle found its way inside my lightning deals
I think Trish's (how am I even supposed to pronounce that ? or is it even written as it should in the first place ) outfit alone would qualify for the All Time Challenge because it's the first time I rendered enough of the parts used to kitbash her outfit. I have a long way to go before getting closer to Triss Merigold's outfit in the Witcher 3, but for now, I'm happy with the result (afterall, a sorceress can have multiple outfits ).
I really wanted to try out some new products, especially Basic Depth Map Maker which I wanted to make part of my Affinity Photo postwork. It took some reading and experimenting (and a little bit of frustration), but I'm quite happy with the results. Other new items used: Beatrice And Bartholemew For Genesis 9, Cyberpunk Back Alley, and FN Blood FX (on the shirt). The rest of the items in the gallery, including never used before Iray Clothsworx that I should play with more often.
And as an addition, a heavily tone-mapped version, because it felt like a good theme for a illustration-like feel.
I put Whispering Waves Hair on Jin-Ju and it looked awful. I got a bit worried, I actually thought about asking for a refund. Then I put it on Morrigan by Colm Jackson (from the other store) and I think it looks amazing. So funny how wildly different the same hair can look on different characters.

3 freebies, two recent (hair G9 and dress G9), and G9 Lores (not 'Low-Res') by Cynder Blue.
Hmm. Little here that couldn't be done with G8 and 8k textures, and at the image scale I render at (this is typical), 2k textures wouldn't lead to a reduction in image definition. Nose SSS needs correcting. Nice looking face and good looking shape. I like. After a year and a bit of G9, this is the second character that I have bought for G9 (oh and V9 pre-order). Am I bowled over by the character? No. I wish I was. The initial preview iray colours are a bit odd, which seem to become better on rendering. Disappointed? No, not really. Possibly I need to put more effort into learing how to use G9 to the best effect, however clothing compatibility G8->G9 really isn't anywhere near as good as G3->G8 (excepting shoes, which is much better), limiting G9's available clothing pool. To be honest, my own TriAx conversion of V3 is no more difficult to clothe and get looking nice - maybe I'm expecting too much from intergenerational compatability - I was hoping this would be at least as good as G3->G8 and possibly much better given the time since G8 came out in which improvements could have been made.
I also got JeanPierre who is probably more stylised than I'd normally use (nevermind that I've posed him here next to an orc). I'm not sure what skin condition the grey tone is meant to be. He does come with lots of options though. Would probably look ok with a Cynder Blue character if you needed a couple.
I tried to use Iray Sky Pro, but I don't understand why loading precludes me from using spot or point lights. I'll have to do some reasearch after I post. I fell back to one of the Skies of Economy I was lucky to get free with the advent calender.
Not sure why I got Zeus outfit. It looks very cheap. I think it was very cheap. The troll out fit is better, but there was not easy way to turn off the sash as it's the same material zone as the other belts.

Did you use the body hair he comes with? When I checked out his promos yesterday, my guess was that the grey was the subsurface scattering artefact that you get when another mesh clips into a character's skin. I've seen it appear like a wash of grey with some fibermesh beards. Or is it in his textures?
From the promos, I couldn't really nail down whether I liked his face or not, but he looks great in your render.
Edit: What's holding your sand back is that it seems undisturbed, which doesn't match what's going on in your render. There are at least two guys walking on it, so there should be footprints, and the sand should either be churned up by all this rubble and debris landing in it (if the debris is new), or piled up against the debris like little snowdrifts (if the debris has been around for a while). This is pretty hard to do in DAZ Studio, but a good place to start would be a ground material that's not so smooth. There's also the placeable footprints in Infinite Sands, but this is an older asset and I don't know how they'd hold up.
I haven't bought much of the new stuff for the past few days but I've been sniffing around the edges for bargains. Bought the G9 SheOrc today in the featured-artists sale and the Isabella outfit, which arrived in fastgrab too late for this year's Christmas story but which I've had bookmarked since LAST year and figure I might as well grab at a good price for NEXT year. So, of course, my brain combined these and you get the SheOrc in the Isabella outfit.
"Yeah, sure I'm a Christmas elf. Can't you tell by my ears?"
The slight fit problem under her breasts has been left in because it amuses me to think she can't fit into the top without ripping it a little.
For whatever reason, the dForce simulation on this outfit took five times as long as the render itself did.

A very basic render (I've not had much spare time this week):
The Little Princess
Recent purchases ( the first two from Thanksgiving Sale and the last from the Holidaz sale) used: ES3D Cassidy , Lacie Hair , Gown of Fantasy 6 for Genesis 9
Picked up the Thimor bundle with the recent coupon, and got Mount Olympus from the Advent Calendar.
WOW... lucky you... great gift! I AM jealous. lol
That is a very nice gift. Enjoy the big guy, he poses surprisingly well. He also looks great with Lawrence's mats.
‘A simple task, they said.’

She looks perfect for the part, as a the Little Princess presented for the first time to the court
I get his feeling, being at the bottom of that huge stairs, thinking 'Do I really need to walk there?'

Hair aside, Fuseling's Cloud Effects and TwiztedMetal's Fantasy Markings are both items in this render that I have bought relatively recently. (Cloud Effects is not the only SFX product I used in this render, I also used Cosmic Magic, and some of it is post work.)
I agree... sometimes the hair (and color hair) just looks better on different characters... I love that top... Where'd ja git it??? Well done!
Thanks!

Ha, love that it's the future and there's still someone walking around holding their phone horizontal and talking into the end of it
The zits in this blemish kit seem a bit harsh ... or maybe I was just lucky that's what it seems to me.

How can I have realistic looking sand?
To make sand look more realisic... I usually bump up the displacement... Maybe add a geometry layer of the sand too???

Some, at least, should be reducible by adding a simple mask layer in LIE.
