This vampire is a bit too ugly for me; I think we're starting to have enough ugly blokes/monsters/trolls etc. for G9. The 'Bloodmoon Outfit' really appeals to me. But although I know you can buy Mada's models almost blind, I would have liked to see what this outfit looks like before I bought it. This is difficult as the promo pics once again follow the 'better the customer doesn't see too much' pattern: dark models against a dark background; lit up like a power cut in a tunnel. The same with the add-ons.

That vampire is ugly, wonderfully, positively ugly! After recently watching a vampier movie, I actually wished for a Daz one that would look ugly and  menacing. One that would scare their victims, rather than seducing them.  Got my wish! Thanks Daz!

For all the things I could have taken issue with regarding Japanese Classroom Corridor, I noped out of it as soon as I saw that the "writing" on the chalkboard was clearly just typed.

edit: I'm not even saying that the PA needed to write the Japanese themselves, which they might not know how to do, but fonts that look handwritten are not hard to find.

So, is there something special about Holo hair and Nordic Knots hair, or are they just conventional strand-based hair with the new fancy shader applied?

Speaking of the new hair shader, I wonder if it will help me with blonds... I always have trouble making blonds look natural.

  • chevybabe25chevybabe25 Posts: 1,265

They are just strand hairs with the new omni hair shader :)  The shader is very similar to ones like the arnold renderer uses.  So it has melanin, pheomelanin etc etc.

The shader (OmniHair Root-Tip Blend) is in the updated Daz Default Resources package, it you want to apply it and try it out. You need the updated Daz Studio, I think. It also works in the current DS Beta. I had to manually set the hair's Line Tessellation to 0 in the Parameters pane, but other than that, it seemed to work fine,

Ok cool! But then what's Chevy's new product about? Just colour presets?

  • chevybabe25chevybabe25 Posts: 1,265

Yes those are preset colors for the new shader :)

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 24,370

And there are two now hair style products, too, not just the hair color presets.

This is hopefully the last of my spam for today, but I've said (I'm newish to buying hair) but I've said before, since Fiesty Featherbun Chevy's hair products have been my go-to. And it shows, I rarely see a day go by in the store where promos don't feature it. But it's a testiment to just how good they look, and the fact that they are so light weight on the machines is just an added bonus. Now with these new hairs and this next gen shader, I can't imgine going backwards from here. I look forward to future Chevy products and will be keeping them in mind when I do the monthly budget wink here's a quick render of Holo

hopefully the aspect ratio sorts itself out

    I just cannot be bothered

only recently bought one lot of shaders using new technology and now there is newer improvements needing newer shaders

for hair only PAs can make dynamic

I do animations so am going to just stick to geometry hair from now on I can edit and tweak myself

so hopefully PAs keep making them because I do actually buy them

You don't have to "buy" anything to get the new shader. It is in the Daz Default Resources ready for you to use. The shader is called "OmniHair Root-Tip Blend". The things to buy today are color presets and new hair styles. You can use the shader on existing dForce strand-based hairs and tweak your own color changes in the Surfaces pane, if you prefer to not buy new stuff.

Yes, I know. Another thing to remember is to set Line Tessellation to 0 (Parameters pane) on the dForce hair objects when using the new Omni shader. Newer dForce hairs might already be set that way, but older ones won't.

And you need the latest Daz Studio version to get the version of Iray that is needed for the shader. If you are using the latest DS Beta, that works, too. You also need to download and install the latest version of Daz Default Resources to get the update that includes the Omni hair shader.

There is another thread with some tips from chevybabe25.

I can only say that the new hair styles are excellent and the shaders gratefully received. I tried the dForce Nordic Knots Hair on Friday HD for G9F and even I couldn't screw up the hair! My render is no where as nice, nor a close-up, so I am not posting it. But both character, hair, Tettai, and other elements I used were great.

This is a little late, but as I was looking at a December 2023 purchase, Modern Home Essentials Pack 02, I realized the drawer unit actually has five drawers that pull out and have usable insides! Someone in one of the threads, somewhere, I couldn't find it, was looking for one to use in a medical scene. I hope they find this. A shader would be simple to apply.

that thread is really only about Chevybabe25's product, but honestly after just recently buying the line zero shaders which are now effectively superceded, I will try to figure out how to use this one myself surprise

I am testing it now (the I:\My DAZ 3D Library\Shader Presets\Iray\OmniSurface default that is)

a video with fur to which I applied the new shader

dForce Daybreak Outfit for Genesis 9 The untextured outfit looks like it has potential, but the textured images show the odd, squished breast look that plagues the male shape in G9. The pouches on the belt would have been better as static props that don't get distorted by body shapes and poses.

No, she gave tips that apply to the shader in general, not just her hairs and presets. Those tips will help you use the shader yourself, without buying anything else, I should have given you a link to a specific posting, I guess. Take a look here. It even has a tip for using the shader with fur.

  • I have a question about those new iray hair shaders, are they intended for use w strand based hair only? or for normal hairs w trans maps also? Thanks in advance for answers heartsmiley.

Strand based hair only. They do not work on transmapped polygonal mesh hair.

Thank you so much for the reply smiley , then I know I don't have to think about those, I use mostly transmapped hair.

Hmm, how do people feel about the new Stonemason item, the porch vignette (https://www.daz3d.com/le-romantique-porch-vignette)? I was popping it into my cart alomst instinctively, because Stonemason, but then I realized that I do already own a very nice porch with even a bit of an interior, and more details outside, so I will skip on this. I dunno, it's well-made of course, but it feels kind of ... bland, maybe? Just not the same level of exquisite thought and detailing as the lovely cottage scene just before. Or am I looking at it the wrong way somehow?

  • GordigGordig Posts: 10,099

Personally, I have absolutely no interest in vignettes, even from Stonemason.

  • GhostofMacbethGhostofMacbeth Posts: 1,653

I love vignettes but I am not as sold on this one. Just because of what I render.

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 38,294

very similar to the late Slosh's porch IMO

  • PitmaticPitmatic Posts: 905

I like it but there is not enough of it and for Slosh's porch is more usefull.

Vignettes can be usefull but depeneds on what your trying to do.

Yeah, this exactly I think. Maybe it was sort of like an in-between project, or he was in a hurry.
