Wow, looks great, @Phloki3D.
@Phloki3D I love those! Definitely like the color better, but B&W has its place.
Terrain with the grain, added in postwork.
Nice style @artini
I've revamped how I handle ground-plane shadows once again, definitely prefer how they look now to my older iterations
Phloki3D,
Nice! If there's way to add a gradient to those figure shadows that would be a cool touch. I take that back -- there seems to be a gradient in the shadow, particularly in the first image. Pretty cool how Octane handles that.
Do you use any of the Daz textures in configuring the Octane materials?
I was just watching Cyberpunk Edgerunners ... the fusha and purple hues are forever burned onto my retina!
Cheers!
Thank you @csaa ! The shadows are raytraced using Octane's default Daylight environment which includes a bunch of settings, so I should be able to control softness, falloff etc fairly easily. I'll play around with it and check out the results.
The cyberpunk-esque image was fun to make. Rather than just apply a filter in Photoshop I tweaked each material to have that cyberpunky pallette natively. I must admit after a while my eyes needed a break!
Phloki3D,
I guess you didn't catch my updated post ...

My bad - crossed wires! Still, I'll inevitably see what can be tweaked with the shadows anyway.
RE: using textures, yes and no. I tend to just use them as templates and create custom flat textures if I'm not going to just use a simple RGB channel.
On somewhat of a tangent, anything that isn't NPR I don't have any issues with using Daz textures though. Sure they don't always look as they would when rendered with Iray but it's typically not too much work to get them close enough. As long as this option is checked in the settings, when you apply a material from your runtime the associated Octane material will update to use that texture too.
Thanks, @Phloki3D.
Experimenting with different amount of grain in postwork.
I've been using Daz asset normal maps to blend in with NPR shaders. My goal was to move beyond the flat cel shaded look and see if the normal map can add some interesting tones. Here are sample renders, using the normal map mostly from the Police Sci-Fi G8F asset. In the colored image I used normal maps extensively; in the B&W one, I used it here and there, retaining the flat look in certain parts.
I like the outcome on the B&W image, but that's just my personal preference.
Cheers!

Great work @artini @csaa and @phloki your image look like Cyberpunk Edge Runner ( new series in Netflix ) . Awesome !!
Meanwhile here my quick draft using Multipass render ( AO + Base Color + Multi Shadow + Line art ) , The reason I`m trying this method for knowing if I could coloring the shadow and get better/ smooth/natural results than using DAZ "colored" lighting technique . And like always composed and give anime blur type fx in Photoshop
Thanks, @juvesatriani. Interesting image. I need to try such passes in rendering in Unity.
Thanks @juvesatriani , I need to check that show out as I've heard plenty of good things about it and it's definitely my cup of tea!
Here's a couple of new experiments, playing with shadows and textures.
Phloki3D,
Fascinating! Looking at the pool in the second image, did Octane set up the glimmer in the water? Did it handle the rippled reflection automatically?
I like the color scheme. There's harmony in the palette.
Cheers!
I did this one for the Mythical contest. Funny thing is, when I first got back into 3D, I was actually trying to make this image by using Photoshop and compositing images. I ran across a render of the Cthulu character, clicked on the Daz website... and the rest is expensive history. LOL.
@csaa there was some trickery to the water. It is indeed handled automatically by Octane, however the ripple effect is achieved by a "non-toon" plane with a normal map and lowered opacity (and increased index of refraction), with a second plane beneath it (and the fish etc) with the toon material applied. As it's surrounded by, and the relfections are that of, toon materials it blends in nicely. Toon and non-toon materials can be rendered at the same time in the same scene so it can be quite useful in some circumstances.
LoreMistress Izaria,
I like Cthulhu and I enjoyed reading H.P. Lovecraft. I'm always amazed by the endless ways Cthulhu shows up in pop art. BTW, did you enter this image to the Mythical contest? Hope you did well.
Cheers!
Phloki3D,
I think that's a clever way of mixing toon and non-toon elements. I was wondering if that can be done.
Lately I've increasingly used normal maps as an input to the opacity of NPR shaders. Because the renderer reacts to the lighting on the normal surface, the shading varies depending on the camera and the illumination of the scene. I find the outcome very interesting. Samples way below.
Cheers!

@csaa
I did enter it into the contest. There are a lot of really great renders so far, but it is fun to throw my art against the wall and see if it sticks. :p
I`ve been spending some times finding perfect NPR style which similliar with mine( or better?) from Stable Diffusion .
I think I`m starting to get what I wanted . And It also seem work fine for interior or exterior background/props .
The reason of this experiment to know if possible doing crowds - complex background without rendering from DAZ or Blender
Here the few examples (and yeah these are NFSW model LOL ) . Would love to share the prompt if anyone want to try
Interesting, so what you get it is just automatic generation of images and you cannot choose what character
is produced. They are just similar to the works of artists used in prompt, isn't it?
Looks amazing. Sign me up, please!
And could you please give me your latest PWToon tune ups, since I lost all my developments while fleeing from war. Will try to recover things and maybe find a new style.
@pavsikakyj
The thing with AI generating tools , you can mix and match almost every style that machines already studied . And yes we can easily doing direct copy style . But if we keep doing that, we`ll missing big point what those tech actually offer . There are several tools to make AI learning - recognizing then reapply your own styles in every generated images right now . But it need powerful machine to do that . if you have one, you should try those tools .
And because I dont have powerfull ones right now , I`m opt to mix several artist whom I think have similliar style with mine . Or at least style which I`m always want to achieve even in manual ways ( without AI help).
The cool things about using this method , it will help us to get same or coherent output in other object or elements in your projects .
Let say you want to have several interior background design which match with whatever DAZ or Blender or any tools produced , you can do that . Of course that will need trial errors and tweaking the prompt parameters until you get the right ones . But it will help speeding the process laters . You can imagine if use those advantages for long projects like web comic or storyboarding right ?
BTW Here the prompt formula example I`ve used in post before :
(( character name or scene or object )) by ilya kuvshinov:.25 rossdraws :25 by dan mumford:.25 by Sam Bosma:.25,Photoshoot, Portrait, Closeup-View, Colorful, Supplementary-Colors, Light Mode, Light Blue, Technicolor, 4D, Ultra-HD, Rectangular, Geometric, Polyhedral, Happy, Good, Rim Lights, Marquee, Natural Lighting .
Replace first text with your character name /object/ scene . You can change any camera information based on what kind scene you need to generate. You can also find perfect styles via changing the artist names, weight value ( it should be in decimal format and the final sum should be 1 ) or any color informations and lighting
I will posting my experiments documentation in my DA later . There are lots of cool things with AI especially IMG2IMG functions . With it, you can get IRAY/VRAY/Octane version from your NPR images . Something you can mashup/pthotobash later in photoshop or any image editor right ?
@pavsikakyj
About pw toon presets , I`m not yet done with my new presets . actually the new ones only about color pallete variations which I`ve sampled from several cool comic
But if you have pwtoon preset from @crescent , that will doing the job ,
I`m including the unfinished color pallete in this post- the old presets plus new IRAY PS action in case yours get deleted
!JS Flat
!JS Stylized
!New JS IRAY TOON KIT ( photoshop action) Note : after installed GreycStoration and before run any action Open the filter in Photoshop , TICK use GPU feature
That will make smooth action proces faster
Thanks man! You are my savior!

XxGreyxX,
Nice! Thanks for sharing. It's useful to have PWTOON in one's creative toolkit.
Cheers!
Thanks to @juvesatriani recovering my comic style.
And smoother version
