Reality is back here at DAZ. Looking forward to using it again. It's been a while.

    Is it a new version of Reality or still the last one?

    Oh nuts...I should have read it more closely. It is only Reality 2 for Studio. 3 is not out yet. Good catch.

    Yeah, I purchased Reality 1.25 here and I have upgraded every since to this one.

    I haven't rendered in Luxrender, got tired of waiting for the results and many times a 48-hr render would be ruined with fireflies. I am waiting for the firefly issue to be resolved and maybe then I will try again. And, yes, I know why the fireflies happen, it still sucks and there are many instances where fireflies can't be dealt with no matter what tips and tricks I use.

    I'm pleased to see that Reality is back in the DAZ store, where I first bought it. But yes, the Studio version is still Reality 2 (I presume it's the last version, 2.5). Reality 3 (already available for Poser) has been firmly promised by the end of the year. I assume upgrades from 2 will be at very reasonable cost. I'm very much looking forward to it.

    Has anybody here used both Reality and Luxus? I have Luxus, and am curious if Reality offers any kind of dramatic difference.

    fireflies bug fix was implemented in LuxRender 0.9, the version at the time of this writing is 1.3.1a. You may be getting highlights from over glossy material and exposure but you should not be getting fireflies. Have you asked this over at the Reality forums on Runtimedna? I'd start there and post a pic of what you're seeing.

    I believe you have more control over materials with Luxus. This is one of the changes coming to Reality 3 for DAZ Studio. More options. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me.

    I have the latest everything. And Yes, one of the biggest issues is fireflies, nothing was fixed in 0.9. The issue still lives. Outdoor scenes with water are a killer for me. If you just want to render skimpy Victoria with LuxRender it will not annoy you as much.

    I've noticed all the Reality-based renders and was tempted to purchase it, but the user guide link seems to be broken... Can't tell if it'll be too complicated to use or what.

    I gotta admit I was kind of worried about how Reality 3 for DAZ Studio would do if it isn't sold at the No. 1 (by far, probably) marketplace for DS content.
    Seeing it back here is a relief :D While I stopped using Reality or LuxRender for the time being, it's still one of the best purchases I ever made and I still love it dearly :D
    It takes a while to really get into, but I always thought it was very intuitive, especially given how complicated LuxRender can be.

    No, there is no compatibility issues, not that I am aware of. Reality was designed with ease of use in mind. The new version 3 will offer more.

    I have Reality 2.5 so I guess I'll be waiting for 3. hopefully I'll get an upgrade price. My one thing about Luxrender is that last time I checked it doesn't have a robust GPU render like Octane has and is the number one reason I've been seirously considering grabbing Octane.

    I just purchased the Luxus plugin last night so haven't even played with it yet. Now I see that the Reality plugin is on sale. Question: If I have Luxus, should I hold off until the new Reality version is available or should I go ahead and get it now and then possibly upgrade later to the new version when it comes out? Would it be worth it to snag it now?

    Here is one area where Reality 3 will probably be different (currently, I don't know), in cases where an alpha mat is needed along with the diffuse mat for light sources.

    The jet exhaust is converted to a light source in Reality and to make it work you will need to merge the included alpha mat with the diffuse mat in Photoshop or some other image editor as Reality 2 and below don't have an option to add the alpha mat to the light source. Reality 3 will probably have this option.

    Hello everybody.

    Just wanted to say hello now that we are back here at DAZ.

    Reality for Studio is at version 2.5 and it is the one and only. The program that started it all before anybody else and the one that is easier to use. At 50% of it's an opportunity that you should not miss.

    I, too, am wondering whether it's worth holding off on. Whether the next version would make much of a difference for a non-advanced layman, such as myself. Unless it's, like, a year away or something...

    A little worrying that I'm seeing lots about ten-hour+ render times, but I guess it'd be worth it!

    Render times, as usual, depend on the speed of the machine. The faster the machine, the higher the number of cores, the faster the render is.
    Of course there are many other factors, like number of lights, resolution and so on.

    The renders I linked to here were done in DAZ Studio not Poser, so I used Reality 2.5 or less. The jets have glass canopies.

    I don't know about the ability of Reality to help render the glass and metal, but about the time needed - yes, all LuxRender images take some time before they really "pop", depending on the size. The reason is that it doesn't render "in limited boxes", with the pre-defined number of times a pixel is calculated, like DAZ or Carrara, but in a progressive way.
    The longer you render, the more often a pixel gets rendered, and the better the result gets. With a 2000x2000, using Luxus, I had good results at two or three hours, and decent ones at eight hours. I usually stop around twelve hours, as I only use the images for hobby purposes. Still, if something is wrong with the image, you usually will know within half an hour after the render has started.

    I would say that major problems in the scene can be spotted in a few seconds from the start of the rendering or in a couple of minutes. That is one of the great advantages of using Reality and LuxRender.

    In Reality you also have a very handy slider that allows you to set the output resolution to 75%, 50%and 25% of the image without changing your settings in Studio. That tools is perfect for making quick test renders.

    That's an amazing picture. It looks so real. Decided to go ahead and buy Reality. I will have to play around with both plugins. Have to install LuxRender engine today. I tracked down the render engine after buying Luxus last night.
