Already added her to the list on the front page. One of the few times recently I've been current with updates.

Just picked up Kelly 7 from one of my favorite creators Raiya.  Still playing with her but happy so far

Kelly 7 skin texture is really nice.  A little on the light side but that can be fixed.  Beautiful girl nonetheless

Just for the hell of it, a quickie render all three current minority G3F characters. From left to right: Kimiko, Kelly, Adrienne. Light's a little more muted than I expected, for some reason, but you can see things pretty clearly, I think.

Wonderful, this is still here. This is a render I'm working on for a new book cover. I didn't like the lips so I added some color. My daughter thought she needed rosy cheeks since it's a winter scene. Just wanted any feedback from my friends here.

Great lighting and subject in your render, but she looks a bit surprised going by her expression. I think she would have noticed her condition before now. ;-)

They both look very good, but I prefer the one on the left. The framing, the colors, it just looks more "winter" to me.

Likewise, both are beautiful but the left is a bit better.

this thread is for me. Anyone know of any non white models for g2m and or female, and more hair styles?

Welcome, towdow3!  There are not a plethora of diverse characters for G2M and G2F, but there are some.  Try searching through the store.  You may find more interesting things, too.  Try the Darius and Monique figures to start.

i've got them I'm going to at some point toy around with skin color and see what I can do there.

I often use Benjamin (which is Genesis) for G2M and G2F. It works surprisingly well.

You like the one on the left? That was done without any postwork. I'm not fond of the lips but I added snow in the one on the right. Now I'm torn between the two. LOL. Thanks for the feedback.

Tough call. I prefer the one on the left but the hazy postwork for the one on the right makes it feel more "complete" for a winter themed book.

The first post of this thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/368/black-is-beautiful-ii/p1) has a link to a semi regularly updated list of several characters across various generations. It notes what each is for (G2F, M4, etc) and is also separated into categories.

Because I got bored, here is (mostly) Kelly for V7.

I didn't change any skin settings (Iray). I tweaked her features based on my own judgments. It's also like 50% V7, 15% Bethany, 15% Karen, and 20% Eva rather than pure V7... in addition to the facial & body dial adjustments. The hair is Casino hair (from the Bethany bundle, I think). The bikini bottom is Hongyu's. The necklace/top is from one of the newer mermaid sets for G2F, I think. A simple bikini top would have been a little too boring for me.

There's an HDRI, a Distant Light coming over her right shoulder from behind, and a light stuck on the camera. Maybe a bit too much light from the camera, but I wanted to show off her skin.

    Thanks.

Here's one more. Kelly for V7 & Darius 6 are the base models for this one.

Again, I made a ton of adjustments for my own tastes. I had to fix a couple errors with GIMP afterwards. I should also add a real "floor" & soften those shadows on the ground instead of putting it all on the HDRI, but it's all about the lovely skin, isn't it?

"Thank you for the drink, baby. Wanna taste?"

Working on an O.C. named "Sweetz". The character and face are all dial-spun V4. The skin is Leena International with some Daz Studio Layered Image Editor overlays (.dsi). The eye shadow and 2 tattoos are dsi. You have to look closely to find the second tat. wink I can't decide between this hair, Neftis' Beautiful Black Hair Styles, or a longer style. Both are in my DA gallery.

    Sweetz short hair

Cool, thanks! I really like Raiya's Kelly. Her shape as well as the skin.

I'd use Monique or some of my other G2F figures in a render, but I only work with G3F now.

I'll miss my G2M (especially Darius), but I will definitely switch 100% over to Michael 7 when he is available.

I prefer the longer hair, but maybe you can already see that in my renders.

I'd call the short hair version "cute" and the long hair version "elegant" but perhaps that's just a style thing. Even though the Neftis' hair is polygonal, and uses more memory, it actually renders a lot faster than the long hair, which is transmapped. I'm still on DS3, BTW. And for those who didn't bother to search, she has a tattoo on her chest that says "Precious Beauty" as if you needed a reminder...

    Sweetz long hair

  • Made more updates to the list. Mildly intrigued that the new hair is G2F but that's probably due to how few darker skinned G3F characters are available.
  • Thought I'd post these here as it's the only forum I know that caters to the "dark side" of this particular art form. Because hair is difficult to control and make believable I thought I'd try adding hair in post to see how that worked. Needless to say I found a ton of brushes and tutorials on drawing straight hair, I'm still looking for anything regarding curly or kinky hair. So I made some PS brushes and started trying to figure out a method  of drawing belivable kinks. I call this my Kinky Quest, lol.

Anyhow, this is what i've come up with so far. The hair is Evan Hair, I believe, and is a 3D model. The beards are my postworking (probably obvious). This is a WIP. It works OK for old school rendering (I'm in Poser) but I'm not sure if it would fly with a PBR. Comments are welcome.

It's obvious because it looks 1000 times better than the 3D hair!  I have nothing more useful to say, it looks fantastic.

  • Thanks Fisty. I think the hair requires certain render settings to look it's best. Would've slowed the test render so i didn't bother.

  • Hey, I am just getting into using Iray and it's not half bad. I have even had some great results with some V4 textures and morphs I converted with the skin converter and GenX.  Even used Sickleyields tuts on converting skin to iray material.  Now the problem, getting ugh results with very dark skin.  Not cocoa, tawny or chocolate, I'm talking black.  The character is Xhosa by vyktoria  at Rendo, the link is below.  My 3delight renders were amazing because her skin is so beatutiful but she looks like crap in iray,  What settings should I be tinkering for very dark skin?  I really only adusted the film iso value and she doesn't look like a shadow anymore but still no real deffinition to her skin.

  • Does anyone have http://www.daz3d.com/anaya-for-monique-6

I was wondering how she renders in Iray, If somebody would upload some test renders I would highly appreciate it.

Turns out, for me anyway, she looks MUCH better in Iray than she does in 3Delight. Up until now, I've tended to use her morph and avoid her texture because I just couldn't get her texture to look good. For the attached image, I used Beautiful Skin Iray to convert her texture settings, and it worked pretty well, I think. The face used is a no-makeup texture.

One thing to note is that she needs clothing correctors desperately, unless you tweak her chest shape. Her default uses Breasts Natural at 84% (0.84), as well as one of the breast shapes, and you get some spectacular underbreast cling unless you use a corrector to clean that up.

Something of a side issue, but it looks like they've done a tiny bit of clean-up on her store entries. She used to be in the store as Amaya, her Actor file on disk is Anaya, and her materials folder is Anyana. Kind of surprised that nobody caught any of that until late.

I don't have Xhosa, and lighting very dark skin is tricky in general. I've seen a few different approaches, and I'm not sure which ones are better than the others; I think it depends on what you're doing in an individual scene. These might or might not be helpful; they reference real-world photography and techniques, but they're things we can replicate, one way or another, in Iray.

https://www.nyip.edu/photo-articles/archive/photographing-people-of-color (in general, advocates using bounce and fill lighting, but not altering settings)

Despite the fact that the article doesn't advocate it, for a character as dark as Xhosa, I think I might at least try backing down an F-stop or two (in the Iray render settings, not the one attached to the Studio camera -- I have no idea what that thing does), and see if you can capture more detail without blowing out the rest of the scene.

    "Fae Problems"

Mainly a material test with Iray but I'm pretty happy with it. Postworked in Photoshop for the pin-up style. Thanks for taking a look.  :)
