While the included billboard crowd looks nice, maybe we can prod @RiverSoftArt to make a new Now Crowd billboard set as well? :)

+1 Yes, I certainly hope so. Be great to easily put in a crowd watching for various scenes.

I requested spectators (for an arena, sports game, or whatever) a long time ago from Riversoftart, but that must not have been deemed a lucrative project because nothing was ever forthcoming on that front. Looks like that request has now become mute given the billboards included here.

I thought I'd share some information about the billboards included. The billboards are about 20.000 spectator cards that take the front and backside of a "character" from 2K maps with lots of pre-rendered characters. If you like, you can put your own characters, even yourself into them :)

Lower stands are populated with upper class people (fancier clothes) and upper tiers with more common citizens.

There is a little easter egg hidden in the crowd XD.

I quickly rendered a bit closer look to the billboards. The billboards are extra to the set and meant to be pictured from a bit more far away, a bit blurred maybe. Here I didn't use DOF etc to blend them.

It looks like you now have people seated more closely compared to the original promos ... I think that's a huge improvement. In fact, the billboards are fantastic and will make any scene in the arena far, far more realistic and believeable. Excellent. Hoping this won't bust my budget. Looking forward to buying it.

I haven't changed them since the promos. The camera angle makes a difference with these. Billboards have their restrictions, for example for this occasion revolving/camera facing billboards would use too much computing resources (tens of thousands of spectators).

I'm glad you like it :)

It seems you made the crowd all male, if I recall females were not allowed in the arenas for at least some of Rome’s History.

The crowds look terrific. Still, if you were doing a modern scens, it would be good if someone came up with crowd billboards with a modern look.

Yes. I did a lot of research, also on Lex Iulia Theatralis, which stated the seating order in theaters and public mass happenings. I came to conclusion men occupied the lower seats and women were or weren’t (it’s still debatable) allowed to the top tier standing area. The wooden sitting structures were built later on the top tier.

Fantastic amount of research, that you did. Also reminds me of Shakespeare's time in that women were not allowed, at least in court, to attend a theatrical performance. They dressed as men, as Shakespeare himself pointed out in, e.g., Romeo and Juliet. Queen Elizabeth herself sat behind a scrim to hide her presence. I'm not sure about the Globe theatre: did the groundlings there, and other women, have to pretend to be men, or were they just barred from attending, or were they in fact permitted to enter? They, of course, were not viewd as "ladies." Sorry for the diversion, but the barring of women provoked that.

Seating was arranged by class as well. While not all women were relegated to the lower class seating areas, the exceptions were likely few.

Yes, crowd for every "wedge" per tier of the stands is an individual prop, 24 of them. You can load the whole set at once or each at a time. You can also delete the ones you don't need. (Ultimately with the geometry tool you can easily even delete people one by one or separate just one spectator if you like.)

Is there any date planned for release as yet?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,011

Note that PAs aren't supposed to state release dates. Among other things, any release date we are given is only tentative.

  • Outstanding work. It shows you put a lot of effort to detail. Great job!

I would pay for an appropriate add-on crowd for your Recital Hall.

Fair enough, but still, even a tentative timescale would be nice to know.

Indeed! Billboards of people in evening or even business wear would be perfect.

When I originally posted this thread I didn’t know even myself. Now I know and it is soon :)

I will take a look into this.

I would like a crowd that could be put into the background for a wrestling ring.
