Up here, there were stricter safety standards, so there was a gas tank shield installed at manufacture that was omitted on US cars (saving about $11.00) .. biut yeah, otherwise - kaboom!
...there was also an explosion issue with Chevy pickups that had "sidesaddle" tanks.
I found a real nice site that is full of cars. Most are in FBX format and are exploded all over the place when imported into Daz. But if you have the time and patients to find each piece ( and some are way out in space...lol) then you can move them back to the center and assemble the car. Most have some real nice textures that come in the zip file. They apply normally and are tagged accordingly. Here is one I found and got. Do NOT ask me for the link to the site as Daz may not like me putting links to other sites up here, if they say it's ok, then I will tell you all where to go. There are tons of free cars there and it is a lagit site. Like I said, most are in FBX format and will import into Daz, only many are exploded. Here is one I got yesterday and worked on last night and today assembling the parts.

I went to a car show yesterday at the mall. I saw so many custom cars and loads of 50s and 60s restored. Many SS chevys too and Mustang Shelbys. At one point I turned around and this old couple was sitting under a shade tree behind their two cars. A sliver 1955 Chevy Bel Air, restored like new, his, and a 1954 Chevy two door restored like new, hers. I just grabbed my head and I said to them, " My head is about to explode. How much car beauty can one brain handle. I can't take it anymore...I got to go!" and they both laughed and he said " Watch out for that Orange Studibaker Avanti right behind you!" and I turned around and sure enough there it was...Factory orange with a factory orange interior and carpet! I couldn't believe my eyes! I just grabbed my head and ran off screaming....hahaha. Ran past the Blue 69 Camaro SS 427 with Nitro tanks looking like a brand new car and ran to my car and left. I had nightmares last night about some of them. Good nightmares! OMG!
Music - those are really nice renders - hope you can share the site, always on the prowl for good free car models! (perhaps a PM, nudge, nudge :) ) Yeah FBX can be funny at times, some work better than others.. Sound like the car show was fun.. and you don't see too many Avanti's .. Neighbour of mine has a Studebaker Lark, that he dropped a Chev 283 in.. he used to complain that it ran hot in the summer. Told him the old trick of changing the rad thermostat out for a one with a lower opening temp....

It seems the site has already been listed here by someone else a page back just after the picture of Ms. Patty and Mr. Wesley. All I will say. Here is one I got there this morning and it renders very nice. It had quite a long texture list and , though I have never heard of this car, I just had to have it because it looks so cool. Called a Jiotto Capra and made by Suburu I think. Just an awesome car. The interior is very detailed.
Here is another weird one. It is called The " Road Jack Wagon". Not sure what kind of car it is but it is cool so I got it.
One more was just called vintage car but had no tires. Another FBX convert. So, I put some tires and wheels on it. Came out ok. Nice interior. Rag top!
One for the bike lovers. A Harley Davidson Seventy Two. I like the way the frame and some normally chrome parts are black. Gives it a more modern look. Bet it will fly!
Do you remember this one? A 1969 Dodge Datona with all the goodies. Turned out very nice I think.
My last one for the day is a Dodge Series-B pickup. Real nice ride. Very detailed.

This is pretty close to one I ran back in the late 60's - only major difference is that this is a later model Panhead, and mine was a Flathead, with a smaller sissy bar and laowe handlebars ( I like hands to be below shoulder height..)

Nice ride. My fav has always been the "Feeter Ponda" bike. Engine looks similar to this one.
Since we are on the subject of bikes, I want to share with you something. I have been here at Daz for many many years. I go way back to the beginning of the Daz program. My mentors were "The Ness" and our leader Richard Haseltine who helped me and picked me up whenever I fell down. I have met many great 3D artists here in that time period. One of them was the great "Catermaran" who was a legend in bike creating and building. Some of you may remember him. He passed away many years ago, but his work was and still is the tops in modeling bikes. One day he told me he did all of his modeling with a CAD program and said that it was the best and I should look into it. So he gave me a site to go visit and see some of the models. When I went there, I came across this bike. It was so stunning and realistic looking that it just about brought tears to my eyes. How could something GC look so real. The detail is amazing. Catermaran verified that this bike was a CAD model. I still have it and it still gives me chills to look at it. It is "ever inspirational" to all bike modelers. I will share it with you all now.
