Thanks so much for this converter. I even had sucess with my very favorite V3 hairs by Aprilysh!

You're welcome!  You should post pics here so others can see.

Sorry this is so out of focus; the original is sharp enough. I'm not familiar with adding images.

Aprilysh V3 hairs on GF8 (l to r): Alysadae, Anrhea, Theone. circa 2003. Love the very classical and beautiful forms. Bands are removable. Too bad the textures have never been updated.

make the post  then click on the thumbnail to bring it up to full size, then right click on the full size image to save image location  now click on the gear icon and click edit to add your image to the post and then use the add image tool at the top to post it in line instead of blowing the thumb up

That is impressive how good they are for V3 era hair!  Thank you for sharing.

Have you tried using shaders on them?

Yes, they're really good, at least for an old classicist like me.

As for trying shaders I'm not sure what you're suggesting. Something I was doing using a similar V4/M4 Evan hair by Aprilysh so I converted it using RSSY 3DL to Iray script and while the resulting diminished color of the hair melded better with the overall iray atmosphere, the hair really flattened out at the same time.

    Sorry, evidentally problem is me.

I convert a hair file ok, it loads and fits great.

    But.

The texture files (diffuse, bump, opacity ) do not work.

Am I missing something in conversion?

    Thank you.

I can't read the whole thread to see if my questions have already been answered. Too hard on my eyes if I try.

I am considering buy this, since it is on sale right now, and wondered if this works on hair fits. There are hairs that are made for the opposite sex or a different version model and over time there have been many fits for V4 (also A4 and M4 etc) and wondered about these fits and this converter? Also I saw a post where someone used it on V3 hairs and it worked...is this correct?

It converts the older Generation 4  Victoria Hairs and coverts them to fit Genesis8 Females ,and puts them in your Smart Content  ,you will have to manually convert the texture files though ,it's a great product

Check that the materials are plain material presets, not Hierarchical materials presets (which work only when the original figure is the wearer of the hair). If they are Hierarchical you can aply them with the original figure, then save a regual materials preset from that and use it on the converted hair.

I know it converts V4 hairs and about needing to convert the textures, what I don't know is if it converts hair fits for V4, and I also asked if I read a post correctly that it converts V3 hairs.

  • carrie58carrie58 Posts: 3,984

Well name a hair or two you have and then I can tell you if I have it ,if it converted ,but as far as hair fits .....Idon't know ....I do know that Wild & Messy V3 hair converted fine

Thank you @carrie58 and @Richard Haseltine for answering!  smiley

I don't believe it converts hair fits (I own so little V4 stuff).  I will ask Sickleyield.  As far as V3, this product is designed for V4.  As carrie58 mentioned, some V3 hair will convert but there are no guarantees.

Great, thank you, that's part of what I needed to know. Will bookmark this for when Sickleyield is able to answer.

    Hi!

I didn't make the conformers for V3 at all, but V3's rigging is basically identical to V4's; there is literally a clothing adapter that just adds a V4 morph to V3 clothes to fit them to V4 if memory serves.  With V3 hair think it's possible you might get a functioning conformer, but an imperfect mesh fit (owing to difference in the shape of V3 vs. V4's head).  Unfortunately I don't think I have any V3 hairs with which to test this.  I definitely don't advise you to spend money on the product in hopes of that functionality.

No I just thought it coud be a bonus along with the V4 hairs it converts. Thank you for the explaination.

This is my first V4 hair conversion using the V4 to Genesis 8 converter using the hair from V4 Ranger. I haven't converted any more yet but I really should set some time aside to work my way through all the V4 products I now own (and mostly have never used!). laugh I love the results of this first converstion.

I used Hana as the model and reshaded using Backlight - Hair Shaders for Iray

That looks really good @Mollytabby!  And I even have it.  It is amazing to me how some really old products can look as good as new with a little love smiley  Thank you for sharing.

I bought the product on sale the other day and have been trying to convert a few V4 Hair products (installed with DIM): Chocolate Hair, Peppermint Hair, Serenade Hair, Tequila Hair and Isabel Hair with no success whatsoever?!?

Yes I have read the manual froward and bakward, the hair figure seem to load on the Genesis 8 Female in the scene then it disapears and the script ends. The attached images may offer a clue to what's going on?

    Any help appreciated!

Your second image shows that the hair metadata is returning Unknown instead of what the script is looking for "Follower/Hair".  For that item, you need to SELECT it and then click Force Convert.

Just started to play with this, so I have a few observations.

Firstly I apologise if I am stating the obvious or known issue, but the reason a lot of V4 hairs end up with the hair positioned above or below the head, is because they are not really V4 hairs. By this I mean the obj file used is actually designed to fit another figure, and all the other figures it supports are fitted to the head by either fit morphs or the pose files. The latter simply resizes the hair and/or applies some x/y/z translations to reposition it. This can be true for both CR2 and HR2 files, although CR2 files will use fit morphs or scaling only, not translation, to get the hair to fit.

The HR2 file of the misbehaving Cuffed Hair 2 mentioned in the manual for this product actually loads with morphs, scaling and translation to fit M4, and quite a lot of hairs are actually designed to fit David 3 for some reason, even though the hair is advertised as fitting V4. I have even found hairs where the main obj does not fit any of the well known DAZ figures, and was likely made to fit one of the Poser native figures, or maybe even some figure of the PAs own.

Fortunately this product adds a number of morphs that help to overcome these problems, but they do explain why some work out of the box, whilst others do not.

For longer hairs this product is far superior to autofit, although autofit has the advantage that you can select the figure the hair was designed for as the source, which is particularly useful for Gen 3 hairs, where no RSSY converter script exists.

With the Caleb hair, after backing it up, I edited the hr2 file so that Characters, MoveStyle, and Fitting would all fall under Actor. I opened it up, and made sure all the morphs showed up under Actor. But after converting it, it was gone again. I do have Show Hidden Properties turned on. But for some reason, these morphs just aren't transferring for me. Does anyone else have Caleb Hair or other AprilYSH V4 hairs that they can test out? Thanks so much.

Edited to note that it seems that at least for zzspriest, no hr2 files are getting their morphs transferred either.

I also tried to edit a hr2 file but couldnt get it to work. I checked the data folder and found that for hr2 no morphs are transferred. Only the converter morphs are there..

I do not know why it is not working for you all.  Until I can reproduce it, I can't fix it sad

What version of DAZ Studio are you using?

I wish I could duplicate your conditions! I tried across two computers and 4.10, current 4.11, and current 4.11 beta, all to no avail. But it clearly worked on your computer!

I am using v4.11.0.383.  What is the full log saying when you try to convert a .hr2 file?

I attached a log in a prior post (the AprilYSH hairs are hr2 files), but you indicated that you didn't see anything too different when compared to your log.

Doh... I am thrashing around trying to solve this sad

Was this ever figured out?  I just converted around 65 V4 hairs, and several came through without morphs.

Huh.  Just to confirm.  If you go to the options page, do you see the following 2 options?

    • Added Do not add duplicates option
    • Added Directory Limit option (to keep the dialog from loading too many items and crashing DS)

EDIT: Also, how did you install it? Do you have multiple copies of data/RiverSoft Art/Common/RSV4M$HairConversionFunctions.dse on the system?

Post edited by RiverSoft Art on
  • Yes, those options are there.  I install through DIM.  There's only the one file, on my D drive.  I do note that some of your templates seem to be on the C drive despite the plugin being installed to D.

Alright, well that is helpful to know.  I assume by templates you mean the conformers in the data directory?

Can you post a log of one of the conversions that don't copy the morphs?
