Trying to do bruce, but it'll be quick and imperfect

You were off to a great start on Bruce Lee during the beginning of the month.  Plenty of time to revive and make a wonderful entry.

Speaking of going back to the beginning of the month...

Here is the current version of my woodlands pioneer.  I will be using anything grooves on the tree bark, so the foreground tree does not look right yet.

For the modeling of the pioneer, see here.  frankenpioneer - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3920426/#Comment_3920426

For rendering the distant background mountains, which render as inserted in the backdrop of the main scene, see here.  Background mountains - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3954586/#Comment_3954586

Now, here is a gathering of elements, including a 'lincoln log' cabin, an iron axe from the period, and a tree being chopped down.  I've populated the foreground with some custom trees and shrubs, and I've made a couple hair holders for some scattered grass.

Suggestions welcome.  Do you think the closer shot or the further shot works better?

    Scene setup

Distant shot includes full figure of pioneer and the full girth of the tree to be chopped down.

Tighter shot focuses more on the cut in the tree

And here is a test of anything grooves.  I really like the bark result, but not the tree rings in the cut.  Will experiment with editing the shader loaded in the anything grooves modifier.  I am posting this to the entry page, but might switch out.

Martial art awesomeness - excellent shader effect.

Here is my update to address the chopped area of the tree.  I also took the opportunity to change the hair shader to get more contrast with the background.  The rim light was not enough by itself, in my view.

@Diomode: Did you model that log cabin? Sorry, I missed a lot because i']ve been busy with lots of othesr crap. 8i've wanted a log cabin that doesn't look modern, like you just chopped a bunch of trees and stacked 'em.

Yes, the log cabin is modeled in Carrara.  Very simple (almost don't want to say how simple so people will be impressed  wink.).

    - You really could do this with the primitive cylinders from the top menu, but I modeled the log in the vertex modeler.  I started with a simple cylinder, extracted out the ends, and carved cuts for the "lincoln log" effect.  Very simple UVMap as well.  I did not optimize the UVMap because originally I was going to model more parts (door, window) and have them all share the same map.  Ended up not needing that much of the cabin in the scene so I dropped it.

    - Once I had my base log, I just built the walls of the cabin by duplicating the base model and translated vertical by the diameter of the log.  I had to rotate the second wall by 90 degrees and translate 1/2 the diameter to fit the corners.  The roof is just some angled primitive cubes mussed up with shaders.

    - If you want a cabin that is going to be featured in a scene, you could start with this aproach, but you would want a little variety to the logs which could do with morphs and shaders of the base log.  You might also want some logs of different lengths so you can have a door and a window.

Hello ed3D, I was hoping to see your entry in the Challenge, are you still able to show us a final render of where you were up to ? Would love to see it !!!

There is also the "Post Your Renders - Let's Rock 2018!" that you can post your renders in, and for "Non-Photo-Realistic" renders there is the "Carrara Non Photo Realistic Works"

Hope to see you joining in !!!

I don't visit the Carrara forum very often and just saw this thread. I am especvially interested in the Ground Control plugin but I don't see anywhere to download the plugins. What am I missing?

Nevermind. It was kind of hidden but I figured it out
