Very good. I love the perspective, and the depth of field effect works well in this one.

GRNgiant7713, you're definitely not having an "unfair advantage". Your entry is very pretty - the reflection, the weeds, the pines. What I really enjoy is the subtlety of the work: the prosthesis is so finely included - it shows it's nothing weird, just a normal accessory like sunglasses or something similar. What puts me off 0 only a bit though - is that car. At first, I was wondering what kind of paddle the man's using. Only after a few seconds I realised the car is blending with the paddle. If you want, try to move it away a bit. That's all. Even though you list this render as a non-entry, I feel you deserve my entry gifts totally! I kindly ask the judges to include you in the list of receivers.
Star Books, I'm very sorry if you didn't have good fun this time. My advice is that you recreate the image with real people instead of aliens; I understand you might have wanted to play metaphorically, but I must keep the judges' views and therefore I'm kindly asking you to rework your render. After this, you'll still be able to take part and so on. I hope you're not offended.
KaribousBoutique, your entry is very fine and mood-boosting, so to say :). She knows her limitations, but doesn't mind that and that's perfectly captured! The only thing I'd like to ask you is to remove the direct link to the hairstyle and possibly paste the closest link instead. The contest's rules ask not to link directly. That's all :).
Carola O, I see you know how to use MilDog to create cute renders! I don't see a troubled person, but a man and his dog, that's all. Good job. The prosthesis is an interesting freebie.
"How did you get lose" is an entry that may qualify for the contest. However, a few things must be fixed prior to accepting it: firstly, indicate which freebies require registration (I suggest writing something like "register to get", some entrants put a certain mark like an asterisk); secondly, Wild Many Hair should be listed as a no-count since you apparently got it with Genesis Starter Essentials shipped with DAZ Studio. Lastly, my last suggestion: include lights in your scene. A friend told me lights are approximately 70% of the render's quality and you know what? She was right! Even the simplest UberEnvironment light makes a huge difference.
And Mmalbert's "Girls' Day Out" is fantastic! I'd sweat you didn't use nearly only freebies there, but put the scene together with paid-for items from the store. The woman are happy, chatting and laughing. You can see they're having good time. Frankly, I have little idea on what can be improved. Maybe the sky could be made slightly less blurry - usually you can see more clouds' details. But truly, you can surely leave it and it won't lose its quality. Good job you used various freebies!
I feel we as judges should put an emphasis on submitting renders that show we are all equal rather than showing any differences. That's why I like the subtle way "Welcome to Holland" is composed.
I'm submitting another version of my render. This time I put Edwina into a frantic pose. You'll have to click on the image to view it fullscreen, because otherwise you will not be able to notice their expressions correctly (I posed their eyes totally myself!). I used another freebie from Richabri's Simplicity Set, that's a decorative plant. I moved the previous one into the left corner. The rest of the freebies is the same. The description is here.
FREEBIES:
(register to get) Gwyneth Dress from Jan19 (with my own shader - red 61, green 61, blue 61)
(register to get) Maturing Pack for V4 from Tempest (converted for Genesis by Wancow, the link goes to Genesis version as the original pack for V4 is linked there too)
(register to get) SSS Shaders from Wancow
(register to get) Hand Jive for Genesis from Katastrophe
(register to get) Window Seat from CoolTuna
Spinning Wheel from Sams3D (the site links to Sams3D are down, but Sam accepts e-mail requests for all of his stuff)
General Store Bottle and Chest without stand from Mapps
Necklace from Faerie-Dreams
Wreath from LM-Design
Fruit Bowl from MortemVetus/Andi3D
(register to get) Elven House Figurine from Arah
(register to get) Medieval Boots from JaneB
(register to get) Greehouse Potted Plant in a Pot from Richabri
Candle and Persian Cat from Adam Thwaites
Plant[/url/] and Goblets from Mystic Nights
(register to get) Simplicity Wallhanger and Plant from Richabri
(register to get) Tribal Bow from Spyro
(register to get) When Watchers Fall Sweetheart Morph from Laticis
NO-COUNTS:
(register to get) Cabinet from Dreamland (it was a monthly freebie on Rendo, some of them can still be grabbed, but it's a roulette, so let's tag it as a no-count)
(register and checkout with software to get) Basic Female, Basic Male, Basic Female Texture (on Edwina Moira), Basic Male Texture (on Garrett), Basic Female Pose (tweaked), Basic Male Pose (tweaked), Aldora Hair, Duke Hair, Journeyer Scout Pants and Shirt from Genesis Starter Essentials
(register and link to get) Backdrop Texture from Lady-Aimee-Valentine
PURCHASABLES:
None :)!
By the way, does any of you know where can I obtain a free graduate hat please? And a graduation diploma, if it's possible.
Aargh - you beat me to it... but my scene isn't too much like yours (and my list of freebies is different), so I'll go ahead with my entry anyway.
Naw, I knew he wasn't dead. No blood in the pool...and he was floating face up. For a really good dead body render he needed to be face down.
It was the wheelchair that tipped it off and made the image (for me) so powerful. However, maybe a smile on his face and his eyes closed in blissful repose might help give a better idea of his feelings. Makes me want to drift around in a pool...and I hate the water...
I think it should be entered, only I would do a different angle on him close up smiling and the wheelchair behind him in the render.
:-)
Ah haaa ... yup that would be it! I love the legs waiting for him back on the pier. Such a nice render GG.
Thanks for entering

This is a wonderful entry and it needs no explination. It is appearent that she recovering from a life changing ordeal. The inner spirit within us all that makes us challenge life and what is in store for us. The butterfly was a real nice touch to this. Thanks for entering it.
ENTRY ACCEPTED.
Oh, dear.
Glad you'll enter your version, though. I enjoy looking at everyone's ideas for the challenge's theme.
Did you use the Lorehand Cane too, or did you find an actual guide stick? I searched all over and had no luck. Originally, I wanted to use a seeing eye dog, but the MilDog has nothing like a harness or a leash, much less a seeing eye dog harness. Not even as a pay-for item.
Thanks, Cecelia. Yup, all freebies except for ol' Lorenzo LoRez and the V4 armpit fix. The real challenge with freebies, for me, is that I'm a DS user and 99% of freebies are for Poser. It took me days to assemble that scene, mostly due to setting up the material files. Just adjusting the materials on the Shukky car took me the better part of an hour.
The city street scene was an obj import, and took a lot of trial and error before I got the scaling right, and on my first try it imported backwards so that all the lettering was going in the wrong direction. Once I got everything ironed out, I was pretty happy. It's a nice urban scene vignette.
Sky's blurry due to DOF. I'm a total dunce on DOF, so I don't know if there's a way to adjust for that.
That does make a difference! It looks like something is going on there now.
This Cap and Gown is Poser dynamic. It's an older item, and I never tried it out. When I downloaded it I didn't have Poser. But I remembered it and looked in my records. I am assuming it is for M4, but I'm not positive.
That's all I've got.

Neither, actually - I used Zippo's walking stick, and made the handle completely transparent in the Surfaces tab. It's almost perfect; all that's missing is the wrist loop.
And, since the render's done, I may as well post it. No title, no story - I'll just let the artwork speak for itself.

Looks like the beginning of a nice evening. Tough to pose those pants? I see a little shoelace poking through.

Dana
It wasn't easy... "a little shoelace poking through" is better than a lot poking through, though.
Lord Ganthor, I admit I had some problems deciphering your description, but it was definitely worth it! You have a real knack for funny but truth-telling renders. It's colorful, lively; you used many interesting freebies. Your characters don't look like each other, you managed to acquire a great diversity and nobody there is Barbie-looking. That's it, your characters are real-life people, with all pros and cons of this. Good job!
RobKelk, your bar's texture is a realistic wood, I like how it turned out. The row of bottles and glasses adds a nice touch. What I'm not very enthusiastic at is a bit odd pose of the guy, he looks quite strangely. Or I may be wrong - maybe he's just extremely nervous ;). I see you recoloured the shirt - try to make it appear less plastic if you can. The poke-through is not a big deal for me. I'm more interested in texturing the shirt with a cloth shader - maybe one of Wilmap's free packs will help you? You can apply one and then colour it to suit your tastes. The woman is definitely more self-assured. Overall, it's a nice render, but there are a few things that can be improved. Nevertheless, you're on a good way :).
Thanks for all replies about the clothes. Now I can fiddle with them, thanks!
For all entrants: I need your response on possible donation of sneak-peek versions of texture sets for Xylia Double French Braids 2 and Harlow 2. Thank you in advance.
Gallery is updated.

Lol, I'll admit to feeling humbled at the moment by all the awesome renders. I had the misfortune of needing an unexpected (and unwelcomed!!) tooth extraction Friday... and I feel less like "Handicapped... NOT!" and more "Handicapped... Oh, my aching mouth!!" Being here reminds me that losing a tooth is small potatoes compared to what others have lost. (Which also reminds me that mashed potatoes are now a staple of my diet...) :ohh:
Lol! Your commentary was as entertaining and fun as your render!
Ok, I fixed it. :)
Thanks~
Alexa
I didn't know the entries are placed somewhere outside the thread. Was it mentioned anywhere?
PS Best birthday wishes to KaribousBoutique!
Thanks Alexa, we appreciate it.
and for those that are new here we have not mentioned in a while that Alexa and her dad Kendall Sears (who runs and owns the site) have graciously set up a web site for the entries to be displayed. It makes it easier to go to this site and see all of the months entries. Alexa has provided the link in her post. And Alexa has been a real good sport in keeping it updated.
This should come in handy, Mmalbert :). It's the third freebie from the top.
You could have asked, I could set up a gallery for all entrants to share the renders.
Why? Kendall and Alexa have been running the Gallery for well over a year now, They are both long tern participants in the Freebie Challenge, and very generous in helping us with things.
Thanks Alexa, we appreciate it.

That is of course the site where the Gallery is, not this site, in case people get confuzzled. :coolsmirk:
I know it is fun to confuzzle people, but thought it should just be clarified that when Jeeperz says Kendall runs and owns the site she means his site, where the Galleries are.
Some super renders already, good work everyone.
that is correct, sorry if I confused anyone.
I would think a fake leg for the dog would bend much differently than human. It seems to work fine on the man.
Pros:
I like all the green, and the subtle shadows on the ground. Fits the theme just great.
Cons:
Maybe a little closer with the camera. That's it.
very nice entry.
ENTRY ACCEPTED.

Very well said!

Oh, this must be either cutting or slashed wrists. Not easy. I never heard of the former until a few years ago.
I think the Morphs++ is a no count, but I'll leave the final say on that to Music.
Dana
6. Morphs will count toward a purchased item, unless free with a working link to them.
:-)
This will be accepted if you get all ten links working. Great concept!
:-)
Plenty of Freebies here. Just an outstanding render. The clouds are drawing up to rain, but she doesn't see it. I bet she can smell that rain coming though. The depth of field is encouraged in all cases. If used properly, it can be very realistic. Good job here.
