You really explain your render a little more....lol. This is probably the longest explination ever received on an entry here. I left it all out to save Daz some bandwidth, so folks read up to get all this.
Pros:
I like the idea of this. The characters are placed nicely and the room is arranged nicely. The figures are centered and the cat is a great addition. The clothing is perfect for the time period. Lots of good freebie links. Good lighting too.
Cons:
If you had not explained this, I would have never known it was a handicapped render. The problem is, the theme is handicapped...NOT! So the render should show a handical that shows the person defying the handicap. This lady is just kinds standing there stareing out into space, also the guy. Neither is paying any attention to the other. Same with the cat...just kinda there. I think your poses could have been much better in association with each other to create an "involved" scene. I know you worked very hard on this, but I am having a problem with seeing this as a "handicapped...NOT!" render.
ENTRY ACCEPTED.
:-)
I am not certain that this really fits the theme of this months challenge, but that could be just me. Race or species differences is not really a handicap as much as just being different.
That was my thoughts exactly.
:-)
I am sure you worked hard on this render, but I am afraid it does not show a handicap, nor someone dealing with their handicap by performing exceptional feats. I have very rarely NOT accepted an entry, but in order to keep us all on track, I can not accept this entry. NOW...The WIP you have below it with my pool, WOULD be accepted. I am so sorry Amy. The render is nice, just not appropriate for the theme this month.
ENTRY NOT ACCEPTED.
:shut:
Just a note to all...the idea of the theme this month, since it is memory of our beloved BWSman, points more towards a PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED PERSON WHO REFUSES TO LET THEIR HANDICAP SLOW THEM DOWN. My bad on not explaining this better. The problem with mental handicaps is you can't actually see them, so anyone could just submit any render they have already made, and call it a mental handicap...NOT! That is not what I had in mind. BWSman was not mentally handicapped in any way. He was more mentally stable than most of us here...lol. So, for future references, you will have a much better chance of winning this month if you keep this in mind. I do NOT like having to turn down anyone's work, and it wastes your, my and everyone's time, so PLEASE be sure you stay within the theme a little better.
:-)
and to toss my two cents into the mix.... Renders that "fit" the theme have a better chance of winning than those that are more abstract with the theme of the month. Even though they are wonderful renders, they just don't get picked as much as the ones that fit the theme. As both a past host and judge one of the criteria to picking the winners is who follows the theme.
Thank you. I'm glad you said, "without your explination, I would have never known there was a handicap in this render."
Oh yes, I think this should be the real theme of this contest. KaribousBoutique summed it up perfectly. As for me, this is exactly what I'm pointing at - really, it's either we are all normal or nobody is!
It took me quite a lot of time to decide whether to show this to you or not. Finally, I made up my mind that it won't hurt - I only wanted to emphasize we chose a VERY difficult theme. I mean, it's not only important to play subtle, but also to cater for all those problems that are around. It's wonderful you're still trying - you're all winners there, I think :).

No worries, it was fun to do the render I have not used those outfits before. Still working on the pool one
Amy
Accepted entries are in posts 74 and 89; yet-to-be-accepted entries (as of this post) are in posts 138 and 140...
And when I host, I've always sent out the participation gifts upon acceptance of the first entry by each person (or when I got the gifts from their creators, in a couple of cases).Okay, this will be my way also then. Due to RL, things are just a bit behind. Will get that caught up soon I hope.
I'm a little disappointed. First, I didn't enter to win, so I don't mind if my entry is not highly ranked for the purposes of the contest. I entered to show that ANY handicap can be overcome and tried to be creative in showing that. It is, of course, your contest to administer and judge in any way you see fit. I just no longer feel the sense of "we're ALL showing how the impossible can be possible." According to 2006 US social security data, A large majority of working SSI recipients aged 18–64 were disabled because of a mental impairment. Forty-one percent were diagnosed with mental retardation and 26 percent with other mental disorders. Nine percent had diseases of the nervous system and sense organs, mostly blindness, 4 percent had musculoskeletal disorders and 8 percent had other physical disorders. MOST handicapped (...NOT!) people have invisible disabilities. Seems a shame to not encourage those who try showing these disabilities, even if they aren't as visually captivating.
I did not know BWSman, but I (perhaps mistakenly) think that someone with his determination to overcome adversity would appreciate the same spirit in others, regardless of whether you can see the disability on the outside.
Thanks for listening. I'll get off my soap box and go back to lurking now. Good luck in the contest, all!
Naw, I knew he wasn't dead. No blood in the pool...and he was floating face up. For a really good dead body render he needed to be face down.
It was the wheelchair that tipped it off and made the image (for me) so powerful. However, maybe a smile on his face and his eyes closed in blissful repose might help give a better idea of his feelings. Makes me want to drift around in a pool...and I hate the water...
I may have an unfair advantage, being as I am so close to the subject, so if there are too many objections my submittal can be used and an NAE.
Here is my take on the theme for this month. While I understand that mental and social handicaps are more common than physical ones, it is very hard to convey someone overcoming such a handicap and enjoying life to the fullest with just a picture. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words, if you have to write a thousand words to explain the meaning of the picture, the purpose of the picture is lost.
When I read the theme for this month, I immediately got an idea for an entry. Creating it to match the requirements of the contest took longer. This image is something, that given the opportunity, is something my brother, B, would likely do.

No objection from me, and I'm one of the judges this month. Please feel welcome to take part.
And that's both a lovely and a subtle image.
I like it GRNgiant. the reflection on the water is very cool and I think it right in line with the theme of the month.. The car was a bit hard to see at first, but once I looked for it I found it. I'll let music check links to make sure everything checks out.
Your brother is smiling down on you at this one. Very much the type of person he is from what I knew of him. You get a virtual hug from me for coming in and entering when you are still grieving over the loss of your brother BWSman (Ron). Take care.
GRNgiant7713, I totally agree- your brother would absolutely adore that render. Such a fun outing, that the physically challenged person could skim through the water and enjoy that freedom of gliding movement! Very nicely done!
GRNgiant7713 -- Powerful, but subtle. I love that the real meaning isn't apparent until you look closely at the background. Wonderful!!
After struggling with the personal nature of this handicap (NOT!), I decided to create and post it anyway. It should require no explanation, even though the disability itself is not a physical one. Nevertheless, this handicap is real and its effects are glaringly visible. Those bandages were mine, the pills will always be in my own handbag, the scars under those bandages will always be in my own skin, and the smell of the psychiatric ward is forever in my head after a grand total of nearly 2 months within those walls. I understand this may not receive points with the judges for not being a PHYSICAL handicap, but it is my own disability and it is one I fight daily.
For some of us, the act of embracing life makes one a superhero. Just deciding to breathe is another one of those everyday activities that most people take for granted.

Was struggling to decide on which idea I would go for, or atleast start with. It ended up being this one, even if I had to do a few changes along the way.. but hey, that's life and we have to adapt to how the road turns :)
I tried to fit that peg leg on the dog, but actually had to give up on that *sheepish smiles* I badly need to get me a Hexagon so I can try to create the things I need in situations like his (mind you, it wouldn't be a Good creation, but would have been worth a try *laughs*)
Anyhow, without further ado.. here's my entry :)

After reading the comments & taking a second look at my image, I can see room for improvement. I will be updating it, but it's going to have to wait until I'm done work.
;-)
I really don't have much to contribute in regards to the freebie challenge, but I was just checking out the OP and was shocked to see that BWSman had passed away.
Although I do not believe I ever really spoke to him on a personal level, I know he responded quite a few time to posts I made... he always was a very nice person and very helpful.
To his family and his friend here at the DAZ forums, I wish to express my condolences.
I'm not much on words of wisdom or healing, my feelings are usually expressed with an attempt at humor... but I will say that though he may be gone from this world in body, his presence is still here in all the experience and knowledge he shared with his fellow artists.
Someone who gives more than they take is never forgotten, their spirit continues in all the good they've done and all the lives they've touched.
We'll miss you BWSman.
-Vic
Oh, this must be either cutting or slashed wrists. Not easy. I never heard of the former until a few years ago.
I think the Morphs++ is a no count, but I'll leave the final say on that to Music.
Dana
Very good! And worthy of the theme!
Dana
I don't usually make this sort of comment when I'm a judge for fear of biasing subsequent entries, but I'll make an exception this time.
It's up to Music whether to accept the image, although I can't see why he wouldn't. If it's accepted, I won't take points off for it illustrating a mental disability - because it actually does illustrate a mental disability, without any need for explanations. (If the prescription wasn't visible in the handbag, I would have wondered. Since it is visible, I know what's going on here.) And she's definitely enjoying life.
I have edited and updated my entry. I moved the car so more of it was in the picture and easier to see. I also added a light fixture by the door of the cottage and put a point light in to simulate the light.
Thanks. I'm okay with it being an NAE if that's what Music decides. It was cathartic for me anyway!
How did I miss this one? :gulp: I stopped getting notices for a day or two, but I thought I backtracked and saw everything. But somehow I missed this. I'm sorry, I hope you didn't think I was ignoring you.
I really like this one! And knowing your brother, it does seem like something he'd do. Very touching, thank you for sharing it with us.

GRNgiant7713, I'd missed the prosthesis legs on my first view too. Creative way to display them. I also like the reflection in the water. It's a very peaceful scene.
banditcameraman, thanks for the comment. It was a fun render to put together.
One last entry for the month, as I'm going to be a bit busy with non-fun stuff for a while. :long: I hope it's okay to use Depth of Field. It does make a few freebies less clear to see, but I figure I've got enough qualifying links that I'm okay if I lose a few. But if DOF is a no-no, I can certainly re-render the image with DOF turned off.
Oh, and the bird's perched on the banner above the trio.
