it's a matter of 1 or 2 days i hope before i post version 0.6 which includes the cookie-maker effect
( which was used to make the gear, the heart and the clover pictures )
and the brand new addition, the paperdoll effect, to create paper-thin filled shapes like this gray or grey guitar or gitare
the final name of which is "Cutout"
later that day ...
bad news is, it took longer to fix the triangulation code
good news is, it's fixed so we're closer to release of v0.6 :)
note that i use the simplest method called ear clipping
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygon_triangulation
so the faces will contain many sliver-triangles which don't always look good
but for as flat paperdolls/cutouts/masks they do the job
image 5 shows the last option i add to what will be version 0,6 or 1.0
it should be useful except for the fact that it doesnt respond well to subD'ing
tomorrow you say? yeah maybe, no need to rush huh , yes :)
v0.6 or 1.0 will create thick cutouts with well behaved texturing,
1 material for the top, one for the bottom and one for the side with no uneven stretching
and isnt it a wonderful thing that the reference image which was used as mcjSuperLathe's backdrop exactly fits the object produced by it!
Holy boop dude. o_O
I think I just had a small lathegasm.
as is often the case i hope to post version 0.6 today !
( i found out the cutouts cant self-intersect so i cant close that type of cutout ... next version )
Amy as ''the rich maid'' at The Musée Nissim de Camondo
Isn't she cute...trying to go incognito. Hey Amy!!! Get back to cleaning!
this reminded me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4ZAaPYimfM
i mean Amy, remaining dignified even if somewhat funny-looking

i didn't think the thick-cutout feature would be complicated but there was the issues of :
if you draw a curve clockwise or counter-clockwise, the orientation of the texture and of the normals are affected.
Normals: Each face of an object has an imaginary arrow, which indicates that's inside and what's outside
if this is not handled properly, some 3Delight shaders will show the object entirely black
but but, it seems i now took care of it
'soon' said the piper
later today June 19th i will definitely post version 0.6
still a Beta / Unfinished version
but it will let you play with the new Cutout and thick-cutout effects

well, tis still june 19th , 23h50
so mcjSuperLathe v0.06 was released
https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts2/mcjsuperlathe
but but but, as we speak, the manual is being updated
so keep that in mind
i'm also testing to see if i broke things while adding the "cutout" and "gear" features
it's the part of the manual i'll write, right now ! :)
g'nite
pictures will follow :)
thanks so much for all the hard work you put into this. I'm also you have a manual to go with it. :-)

2012 Jun 21 06:41 v0.06 updates
A version intended for D|S 1 and D|S 2 is now included in the zip archive
the manual for version 0.6 is also downloadable as html+image folder or, (slightly lower quality) PDF file
an important (but not fatal) error was corrected in this morning's re-release of mcjSuperLathe for DS3/4
welcome / thanks ! :)
i'll let it rest in that (acceptable) state for a while and try to do slightly funnier summery things, since, it is summer ! :)
( or winter in Australia )
( which is off the coast of France )
( as a serious and old documentary shows )

gratuitous stray image which looks summery i'd say - happy summer!
Of things to come
the keen eye will have noticed that once upon a time, d-forms were mentionned
and in mcjSuperLathe v0.6's manual they are conspicuously absent ( hey i typed conspicuously with no help from the auto-corrector! )
well, in the nearish and vague future i'll post version 0.7 with d-forms support
one of the motivations behind the bend effect, was to be able to add wrinkles to clothes
because if you modeled clothes, you know that this is one of the corner stones of nice looking clothes
in the image below you can see the bend deformer's influence being corralled by a d-form
see, see? there' s real folds, which could not be obtained using displacement maps
( but you could check mcjElevate on my site, if clothes wrinkles interest you )
and so, these are things to come
in the third image you can see i moved the wiggly curve so that it sits on the 0-level
Of Things to Come part 2
more D-Form tricks which will be in V0.7
Couldn't stay away from this one too long, huh? ;-)
twas an accident my keyboard made me do it
but i think a priority would be to make a demonstration video
starring Amy and maybe Professor Numann as the assistant
or having miss Stick make a comeback

Thanks to Robert for finding this thread. What happened? It's months old and no new updates! This looks amazing! WOW!
thing is, i made dozens of scripts, and this one was in good working condition when i last posted it, so i'm not touching it, even though there's probably improvements that could be done. In recent weeks i posted many props and clothes. ( today a Fender strat ). The other project i have worked on recently is, minimal mocap / augmented reality for Daz Studio, using a script and a windows/PC program.
unrelated picture, the new free guitar prop
Ah, Ok... I got version 0.07 and the pdf how to. Thanks so much!
Please continue to develop this amazing script, i'm waiting for 1.00 version.
How do you do this stuff???
(That's a rhetorical question, but I wish I knew how!)
Uhm Table, Vase, modern chair, tents, this is the first who come in my mind.
I just got your mCJLathe and it is so good and just wanted you to know that it works in daz 4.5 it is so cool
thanks so very much you are super
welcome ! glad to see it gets used :)
I think that might be the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Can it work in Poser?
it a Daz Studio script, whereas Poser uses Python scripts so it cant work as-is
unfortunately it cant be converted from one to the other without a programmer doing it
March 1st 2019 - The Script is Safer : It refuses to build a morph on subdivided surfaces which rendered scene files un-loadable
well it does accept to work on subdivided surfaces as long as they are placed in Low-Resolution mode
