  • Yeah, I almost bought a few in some of the recent sales. But we haven't seen any new ones since late September. Hopefulyl they are quietly phasing it out. The premise was some pirates would buy the products, but they probably found out they were losing some sales. If you think about, if evidence suggests you are losing say even 30 sales per product, then why continue? And e.g. I purchased all the HD add-ons up till when they released Kenji 7's HD add-on DRM only. Not only did I not buy it, but I have not purchased any HD add-on since then. If they cannot make up those lost sales with new sales, then they have no financial incentive to continue with the DRM. Granted, that may not stop them, but they may have enough data now to show it's hurting them, not helping. Here's to hoping.

i accidentally bought a drm outfit couple weeks ago.  They refunded a store credit pretty quick.
    shame about the outfit though.

Looking on the bright side, we only have 1 more month to wait and the first set of encrypted products will become "normal" like the majority of the other store products.

  • Yeah, I did check the "expiration" date for the connect only, but the soonest any that I recently purchased were added in July (at least the ones I noticed were). Sadly, those were bought too long ago to get a refund. I did get a few of the early ones just to see if I liked connect, so those will become available soon enough.

Has it been a year already?!

    Someone hit the brakes...

  • Maybe if we are really lucky they will have a "No More DRM" type sale, re-releasing all of the DRM'd content as DRM free in January. Several I would pick up from the list.

I agree with everything you say; "we haven't seen any new ones since late September. Hopefully they are quietly phasing it out."

iirc, they started the DRM packaging in the beginning of February. Launched t with some freebies to sweethen the deal.

I "bought" the freebies, but I can go on waiting for them.

ETA: No, I see from the first page of the thread that the DRM products launched in January. The freebies were in February, though.

well, I hate getting a notification of a post, and it's 'gone'.

Agree it is interesting that there are none more recent; i wouldn't read anything into it though.

    Pfft!

I screwed up twice during the holiday sales, and spent $6.34 on the Old Warehouse Room and Lulu Outfit Genesis 3 Female(s). Now I have to decide whether to turn in two tickets (seperate orders) and burn about $30 of my time and $5 of DAZ's on principle, or ignore it and see if they really do deencrypt in January, a week or two after the 30 day limits.

Personally I would return; I wouldn't want em thinking I'm ok with DRMed products in any way.

They don't know it was a mistake, only that you bought encrypted.

I went to check I hadn't'; because unless one specifically looks, how would I know?

I have all DRM and encrypted aspects that I can control (the SQL database), removed from my system.

  • I was away from all things CG for a while and forgot about the DRM issue. Removed troubadour from wishlist. Thanks for keeping the list.

    yes

  • Heh, Troubadour had slipped past my guard - and too late to return now. Probably drunk clicking. And since I've only just spotted it, that tells you how focussed I am at actually getting around to using some of this stuff I'm buying.

I shall be watching for a disencryption now. That's it, it was a research item. Oh yes. (nods sagely)

Well, I only got the free Canoes and have to wait till February 17 ...

OK, I got the Cozy Bed too (for free) - but that showed up in DIM even when the store page says encrypted.

  • I really wanted the canoes, I thought they were great along with a couple of other encrypted items, so I hope the encryption thing becomes history in 2017 so several of these items can be purchased for my runtime. wink

The funny thing is there were some items I would almost certainly have bought if they hadn't been encrypted. Now I can't even remember what they are without looking at the list, and unless they happen to hit a very steep discount in some sale once unencrypted, I almost certainly won't bother to get them.

Please DAZ, more encryption. I love the way it takes the impulse out of buying angel

I made a userscript that changes the add-to-cart button if the product has DRM. Use with Greasemonkey (Firefox) or whatever. (Edit: fixed an issue with the script)

    // ==UserScript==// @name        Highlight DRM// @namespace   araneldon-daz3d// @include     http://www.daz3d.com/*// @version     2// @grant       none// ==/UserScript==$(document).ready( function() {  if ( $('div.compatible a:contains("Encrypted")').length > 0 ) {    var btn = $('button.btn-cart');    btn.css({'backgroundColor': '#b00'});    btn.text('DRM? Ick!');    btn.prop('disabled', true);    btn.attr('title', 'Do not add to cart');  }} );

Well, I finally got bitten by this — I bought the Kailani outfit and the Textures set in the recent sales. Didn't realise until I tried to download that the Product Library page only has the templates download. Time to fire off another refund request for both items...

The Textures set isn't encrypted, but it's kind of useless without the outfit.

  • Five.....

  • Five.....

    Starting the countdown? wink

  • Yes, but a day out, as blast off happens on zero, not one. A tired muppet, but a muppet nonetheless. blush

    So...

  • Four....

  • [counts on fingers]

    Three...

  • Two..
