Is there any product that allows one to convert G3/G8 skin to an earlier generation? I've noticed the reverse (old to new), but not a way to apply newer skin texture to the older figures such a V4 or Genesis..
Having troubles with Hershel Hoffmeyers giant alien monster bug. It appears the base model has only two legs, which are either instanced or otherwise copied to fill out the other 6 legs. Actually, all eight legs load, but they are on top of each other. Converting to blended does not solve the problem. The legs can be translated to their position, but the extra 6 do not have their mesh skinned to their bones. I think with some effort I may be able to arrange and then eport meshes and rig in Carrara.
try, in the ds, see if there are figures parented to figures. if it givesu you the option, unparent it all and convert rigging and save each figure as a character preset. and then try reparenting the figures in carrara.
or after converting, reload the character presets in ds and save as a character subset. subsets works for outfits groups. and figures with separate eyebrows and eyelash figures.
the heirarchy pose presets if any prolly wont work.
the parenting trick sometimes works for hair sets, when the hair is parenteed to a base figure or skull cap.
I wonder if converting to Blended and re-saved as duf would work? I don't like it when this stuff happens to me. Sometimes I give up on the product immediately. Other times I just keep trying. Sometimes if we figure out a workflow that works for one thing, it might also work on other things by the same author - which helps.
I bought dz fire's abandoned village, which uses instances. I'm fine with it because it gives me the opportunity to build up the village my own way. It's a wonderful set, by the way. All the goodies we need to build a foreboding village!
I'd return it and then check out what Vanishing Point and Renderosity have.. probably a lot better chance of getting something that can actually load rather than from here.
Some of the things that dz fire made, like cyborgs (?) didn't work out of the box (or at all?) in Carrara due to certain things using DS's 'Point At', like cyliders in the limbs would be attached at a joint, and the cylinder is set to point at another joint.
Some of these things might be able to be fixed using the Point At modifier in Carrara.
From your first picture, it looks to me like the stuff loaded, it's just oriented all wrong - which is why I'm guessing Point At.

this should work okay, right?
mebbe a lil uwrap ticking.
https://www.daz3d.com/the-streets-of-steampunk
is in the fg
pretty sure I posted in a thread somewhere here about it and this video
yes use Sparrowhawk's plugin and be prepared to duplicate missed instancing
some of that video is Twinmootion but there is Carrara too
instancing. oh no.
thanks.
will save my money for doors that open.
you won't find anything in the store without instancing since it was added to D|S
this one its mainly the light poles
EDIT: Much better to use original Star! for DS than original Star! for Poser. Weightmapping is better behaved in Carrara.
Below is for people who wish to use Poser format anyway.
Minor installation problem with the Tuppance Moon Adventurer Set for the RuntimeDNA figure Star! by LadyLittleFox.
https://www.daz3d.com/adventurer-set-for-star
The DIM installation puts the OBJ files for the adventurer set clothes in Content \ Geometries etc etc
The correct location is Content \ Runtime \ Geometries etc etc
They left out the "Runtime" folder in the DIM default installation location.
Just copy the Geometries folder tree from Content \ to Content\Runtime
Same issue for textures. The DIM default install is to Conent \ Textures \ etc but it should be to Content \ Runtime \ Textures \ etc.
There are no MAT pose presets so you have to load the texture maps manually.
handy hint about using the D|S version
I know some Poser figures can behave a tad odd
tango's store is on sale. looking at the fleet ops sets, unfortunately is only duf presets.
hows it look in carrara?
is it a simple project, the monitor maps panels in the glowy channel ?
Admiral's Bridge - monitor/display maps copied to glow channel, and transperancy added to hologram.
thank you. it looks nice.

I use clone shapes with Ultimate Unwrap3D repaint or Zbrush Zprojection but I am pretty sure Blender can do it too if the meshes occupy the same space
I should have said, is there a Daz product... :)
no
oh saw your other thread, there is a geograft product I believe for G2F
https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-uvs-for-genesis-2-female-s
but since this is the Carrara forum I better point out the UV issues with Geografts
Yeah, it looks like I am screwed for the time being. :)
I originally thought that I could just roughly edit them in PSE. But the G3 skins are oriented oddly, compared to previous generations.
Vyusurs catoon figure is in sale. cant imagine how fur is gonna look in carrara?
https://www.daz3d.com/catoon
what is dforce fur, is it mesh? displacement map?
I made a freebie Carrara fur for Catoon far ago. It's still there on Rendo. dForce thing doesn't work in Carrara.
thank you.

mebbe its one of hierarchy things.

did you check for geografts?
i'm considering this https://www.daz3d.com/msrb
anyone tried it? does it have any wacky problems?
thanks
mann i'm a sucker for ships. dont know where it comes from.
no navy people in my ancestry, a few marines tho.
story goes, judge gave my biological dad a choice of the service or jail.
so far so good
oh my gaaaahhd

when i unparent all the pieces, they dont stay in position, it flies all over the space
this isnt the first set geometry doesnt show up, it cant be instancing, the veh is only one body.
it doest make much sense.
taking a break from it, and work on something easier.
hoping pw sets are friendlier. landscapes has a worry of instancing.
I'd return it and then check out what Vanishing Point and Renderosity have.. probably a lot better chance of getting something that can actually load rather than from here.
yeah, i should return the atack v. its completely useless without rotating blades. meh, static obj.
saw a kewl vp submarine
deck of an aircraft carrier would be kewl. dont need the whole ship, just enough of the top to show attack v landing.
Agreed. It may be using DS's Point At, which seems to work entirely different than Carrara's (which works as expected)
like point at the camera? i dont understand.
