3D Printing My Figures

Shapeways has acquired a new machine -- https://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/25462-shapeways-receives-the-first-hp-multi-jet-fusion-3d-printer.html

It appears that full color nylon 3D prints might become possible, "soon".

If I understand correctly, the current Shapeways EULA forbids me from uploading any design I don't "own" for 3D printing and the DAZ Studio EULA makes it clear I don't own the models I'm posing and costuming.

Is anybody working on some sort of compromise that would enable me to send my equipped, posed and costumed Greek Hoplite or Persian Immortal figure to Shapeways for full color 3D printing?

Is there any progress from DAZ to enable full color 3D printing my posed, equipped and costumed figures on the DAZ website?

Maybe DAZ could work with SHAPEWAYS to make this happen?

Of course, you know what the next request will be.

Will I ever be able to sell my posed, equipped and costumed Greek Hoplite to other DAZ or even Shapeways customers?

Right now, the answer appears to be a firm "NO".

What would have to change to make that a "MAYBE"?

The EULA was changed to allow uploading for 3D printing for personal use. There is no commercial license so you aren't able to sell any 3D prints or distribute them.

    That's good news!

I will look at the DAZ EULA again and see if the change is enough to make it worthwhile to prod Shapeways about their EULA.

That combination would keep me busy for quite a while.

I'm sure I will have to wait patiently a good long time for the commercial license.

We'll see what the situation looks like two years from now, when all sorts of potential customers are clamoring for pre-posed, pre-equipped and pre-costumed figures.

    OK, maybe just mildly interested . . . .
