I kinda prefer this one
Hmmm...well now I'm torn. I like both. I just bought a two-pak of the 64 oz grape juice a few days ago. I get a good price at BJ's. I never buy any of the wanna bees, Welch's is the best.
I had the black and white poster of Raquel on my wall when I was a teenager, from that movie.
Dana
decissions,decissions!
:smirk:
And talking about decisions. I am trying to make my mind up about an outfit to texture, as I promised Rob something for November challenge.
Would this one suit, does anyone reckon.
I like it cho
OK all you DS users, I'm gonna need some help. In my quest to get some PA's to donate for the month of December I have been convinced to start using DS instead of Poser. I haven't a clue how to use it, am downloading it now and I'm very nervous about trying something new. It took me forever to figure out Poser. I did the hunt and peck method to learn the first time. I need help in figuring out how to use all my poser stuff in DS. ANY suggestions are welcome. PLEASE... pretty please. HELP
I'll donate for December. Just send me a PM when its time and we'll work out the details.
thanks Frank, I appreciate the donation
1st question, what is the difference between DS3 and DS4DK that is free right now
And I am hoping to do another texture pack for you for December as well.
BTW why are you deserting Poser? or are you just adding another tool to your weaponry.
I think that would suit just fine, Cho. Again, thank you.
Oh, and since jeeperz has already mentioned needing something... I'm still looking for another contribution for November - or two, if people don't want to get my first attempt at a texture for an entry prize. (Cho has promised me a texture or two, and Music's mentioned providing something, and I have a very-small gift from somebody not a regular here for anyone who'll volunteer to judge...) Might I impose upon someone for help here?
I'm not quite sure what that second product is unless you mean the SDK (script development kit) which is an developer's add-on for DS4.
The major difference between DS3 & DS4 is that DS3 cannot use weight-mapped figures (genesis). DS4 is supposed to have better & faster rendering.
What you want to get are these:
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/daz-originals/daz-studio-4-pro
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/daz-originals/daz-studio-4-auto-fit-tool
The second product will allow you to fit clothing from other characters to the Genesis figure.
Cho; what outfit is that?
Rob; I may do a texture set as a prize.
Thanks, BWSman!
(And Cho has chosen manomano's second-most-recent outfit...)
Having used both DS3 Pro and DS4 Pro, I gotta say that DS4 is the easier of the two to master. There are built in links to video tutorials for each section like posing, rendering, etc. In addition don't forget to check out youtube for demos and tutorials on the various features of DS. Having said that, I can tell you that since you already know how to use Poser, DS will come to you easily as they are very similar in many ways.
The only thing to be aware of is that the new DS4.5 uses a different scene extension, so if you have older DS scenes they may need to be converted. New scenes should all work flawlessly.
As mentioned above, if you use the free version of DS4.5 you should at the very least buy the Autofit plugin. It allows you to use your V4 and M4 content on the Genesis figure with little or sometimes even no tweaking. If you experience "poke through" with an outfit that has been autofitted onto Genesis, smoothing is your friend.
If you buy the DS4.5 Pro version, it comes with the Autofit plugin, as well a severl others built in.
Good luck with the new tools!

thanks everyone for your help, I decided to go with DS since so much of the stuff now isn't supported by Poser. I have both DS3 and 4. I've been told the rendered effects are better in DS than in poser too. one of the peeps I pmed for the Dec challenge told me I would be happier with the results in DS. I don't have room for both on my pooter so I had to decide to try out DS for a while, just hate having to teach this old dog new tricks.

I apologize rob, don't want to infringe on you getting donations for Nov. I actually have been pming some of the PA's for help on donations. I had a great conversation with one of them that suggested I use DS is why I'm asking.

yeah that is what I meant B, and that is what I heard about DS that made me start thinking about using it.

@Jeepers. Be carefull if you have an old machine, DS4.5 may not be the best choice because it can be very memory hungry. The last scene I've made took my whole memory and I didn't understood at first because I didn't think that I had a lot in there. But one of the item I converted to genesis had 14000 morph in it! And that was what ate my memory.
I really find DS good and easy to use but that's a personnal taste The real good thing is the versatility of Genesis
As for render quality I don't think Poser is inferior. Every render engine are powerfull but at the end, what make them good is the person behind the keyboard.
I hope you downloaded the latest DS 4.5 beta as it has some bugfixes for area lights.
To begin with DS, just install it with the Genesis Starter, then you must go in Edit->Preference->Content Library->Content directory manager. There you must customize you poser format directory by adding your poser runtimes. After that learn to use the CCT and you're good to go.
If you have questions, just ask
Cheers
Tak
thanks Takeo, my machine is around 4 years old, has win7 on it, just one hard drive though over 280 GB but I have sooo much stuff that it ends up taking up a hugh chunk of my hard drive.
"Your Mummy Don't Dance & Your Dragon Don't Rock-n-Roll"
Set up & rendered in DS4.5Pro. No postwork except for signature. I actually had a really good time creating this scene. When I decided to go more of a cartoon route with this, I had to search for almost all of the items I used (didn't have many toon items in my runtime before). Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out (after fiddling with the depth of field for an obscene amount of time)

Thanks jeeperz and Dana!
I would give you some help, but I have Poser 7 and I have never been able to get it to work on my pooter. It opens, I can load a figure, but when I try to add anything, it crashes and closes....that's it. The only thing I can do with it, is import an object and convert it to a .pp2 file. It will do that, but nothing else. Sad, huh?
Daz Studio is a hundred times more user friendly than Poser. You will be surprized at the difference in them. Once you use DS, you will never want to go back to Poser.
:-)
everything, down to the format it saves in. DS3 stuff will load and work in DS4, BUT NOT REVERSABLE. Interface is different even. Some prefer DS3 over DS4, because it is easier to use, but DS4 has the Genesis figure which you can make into man, woman or child. DS3 uses the Genenration 4 characters, each seperate meshes. Also, DS4 has a fit to character feature and clothes just snap to the figure's size and shape. DS3 does not. You must shape the clothing yourself. DS4 has the same render engine, 3Delight, but the renders look much better. Also DS4 is faster than DS3. I personally prefer DS3 only because I am so used to it and the viewport interface is bigger. The cameras are easier to rotate also. Many would say that DS4 is far more superior to DS3, and they are right.
pm me if you want me to help you in any way if you like.

Ummmm...I grabbed Poser Pro 2010 a few months ago, and was able to do a rather nice render first try, even using a dynamic outfit on Miki 3! I found it quite easy to find things that I wanted to load. The only thing I missed was turning on shadows on the lights. I'll get that next time.
What one finds easy, another finds confusing. It's a personal thing. All one should say is, "I like it and find it easy to use." To me, it's one more tool in my artists' toolkit.

B...I went to follow the instructions of the fit to tool about putting the serial number in and in DS4.5 Pro, it is listed under plugins and checked, but there is no registration button to put any serial number in. The serial number is listed on my account page, so what's up? Do you not have to register it anymore with DS4.5?
CURIOUS!
