Greetings,

Sorry about the misleading title.... recently we had an open day at our painting studio and I had a few of my renders printed out and laying around.

After seeing the r enders one gentlemen is most interested in starting off with 3d.

I recommended Daz Studio as being free and something t hat appears to do good work.

I just had a phone call from him and he is not too keen on the interface so It got me thinking that he might be better off with Carrara.

(I mean of course he would eh :) )

So I know there is a trial version, but I wondered if anyone knew of any of the old versions being given away somewhere at the present time?

Thanks in advance

regards from Oz :)

Not free, but you can get Carrara Pro 6 if you order the old Daz Studio book from Amazon for about $ 20.00 USD:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1598638165/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

The book is outdated, but it comes with a bunch of extra content as well as Carrara.

Just some additional info if about the book Figures, Characters and Avatars: The Official Guide to Using DAZ Studio to Create Beautiful Art, by Les Pardew that was recommended.

The Hexagon version on the CD isn’t the most current build and uses a different serial from the current one.

Also, the missing serials are on an errata page you can download for the book too that the publisher has made available.

    http://www.delmarlearning.com/companions/content/1598638165/online_cd_contents/?isbn=1598638165

Daz's tech support can also give you the serials too.

The C6 version on the disk doesn’t come with some content that came with the paid version of C6. However, you can download a zip of Howie’s Snow Scene from Howie Farkes website for free.

Don't forget that several free plugins do exist for the C6 version that can be downloaded from various sites.

Hey Jay_Nola, thanks for taking the time to explain that. Will solve a lot of issues if the gentlemen goes that way.

This is how I got my Carrara Pro 7, which is what I'm still using. The magazine was only in the UK (I think).

I got mine off of ebay probably about 9 months back (or so) for around 40 bucks.

    Good luck!
