Hi all,
Why is it that the text created in Hexagon looks well formed but when importing it into DAZ Studio it turns into mesh mush?

You need to break that single polygon up into convex qudas (not having an indent) or triangles - when rendering DS triangulates the faces, and in cases like this that ends up filling in the places where the shape is indented (imagine putting a tight elastic band around the outside, anywhere inside that can get covered in triangles which is why, here, you lose the counter of the h).
