use cloud storage as the base storage option for daz studio content

Hey i am trying to use cloud storage as the base storage option for daz studio content as after installing some products its storage size becomes huge. I was thinking of using google drive or terabox as one is more reliable and other one has more storage(my opinion). But i didn't seams to find a proper process for that. CAn anyone help me with this?

Setting it up should easy enough.

Just tell your cloud storage software where your Content library is and it should do the rest.

This might not be practical though.

Cloud storage is more for office type activities where the files are small, transfer quickly, so the owner can access them from any of their devices.

Shuffling GB's of 3D assets around downloading and uploading sounds time consuming and problematic.

You'd have to have them synced to your PC before Studio could use them so they would end up downloaded and stored on your PC anyway.

Have you looked into portable USB drives? Or internal drives?

Currently I don't have any cloud software. For the drives I have 2 pendrives of 128 and 256 gb respectively. And I have to manage them each time I changes my time or deletes any perticular asset with cloud storage like terabox I don't have to worry about that. For the internet connection I have a good internet connection so it should not cause any issues. If I sync the local storage than it will consume both storages and I don't think that cloud will have the data if I delete them from local drive or it will download in my local storage everytime I connect it to internet. I am just unable to setup terabox as network drive or local drive in windows or any other cloud drive. Any more suggestions?
  • For google drive, you just need to install the Google drive for desktop app, and it'll crate a virtual drive on your pc that can be mapped in CDM(content Directory manager) just like any other drive.

If you're not familiar with mapping a drive in CDM,...

    1. Either click the menu button on the Content library tab and select Content directory manager from the drop down, or select Edit>Preferences(F2)>Content tab>content directory manager button.

    2. In CDM, you select the particular format you want to add a directory to(Daz connect, Daz studio, Poser, other) and click the add button on the left.

    3. In the windows explorer pop out, navigate to the drive/directory you want to add, and select it, then click Select folder.

    4. Repeat for multiple drives/formate.

    5. When done adding drives/directories, click the accept button of CDM.

Note, this assumes only the Current directories is in use. If you have multiple content sets, you'll need to select that content set and follow the preceeding.

To make the selected content set the current directories set, click the radio button and click accept.

Personal opinion here, i'd suggest investing in additional local storage, as it's often more cost effective, at least in the u.s.

Depending on which service you choose, and the storage level, you can often buy an equivalent HDD or SSD in as little as 4 months of paying for the service.

Used or Refurbished drives can be even cheaper.

There's also some rather nasty pitfalls with cloud storage, such as scraping for AI, account being banned for what ever reason the company comes up with, and an ongoing bill that if you don't pay all your stuff is gone.

Be sure to thoroughly read the TOS/EULA of any service you're interested in before committing.

Sure. Thanks for your help but being honest I didn't understand the part after going into content directory management. Can you provide any tutorial links? Also more from Google drive I was thinking of tera box just because of more storage and it has lessly to be closed. Google has more other features like blocking accounts and using data ( personal opinion). Thanks for your help again. I will surely give it a try.

     To clairfy,

Once you open cdm, you'll see Content Sets at the top, with Current Directories below that, and under that will be the 5 format sets, CMS cluster Directory, Daz Connect Data, DAZ Studio Formats, Poser Formats, Other import Formats.

For studio only folders/files, you'll just need ot select the Daz Studio Formats, and the Add button on the left will become active.

Click the add button, and a windows explorer window will open.

    see attached images.

In regards to using terabox, it appears to be just an upload/download and streaming app, so doesn't support what you're wanting to do.

I created 2 threads for 2 different communities, I figured that nuts and bolts can help much but decided to ask in common discussion group if someone knows. I will consider this next time and won't post same topic in 2 groups

Thanks for this much clarification and step by step guide previously I was stuck at creating new content set. Yeh I tried so much with tera box but it didn't support any of the thing. I will go with google drive for now. Thankyou once again.
