RTX 4080 Super or wait for 5090?

Hi community,
The new Nvidia 5090 released today and I planned to get my hands on one and failed miserably. Haha.
But my old 1660 TI MaxQ with 6 GB VRAM can no longer support the renders I'm doing. And the fallback to CPU is horrible. Since the 5090 plan failed, I am now looking at a new RTX 4080 Super as a temporary replacement which is sold online for the price of a 5080 (I'm building a new computer anyway and would buy the parts that can support the 5090 and thus a 4080 Super).
Personally, what would you do? Wait for the sellers to restock in the next two or three months (I'm not buying from scalpers or crazy overpriced marketplaces ever!) or jump on the 4080 Super now and upgrade to the RTX 5090 in 1-1.5 years?
Also, can someone with a 4080 Super or a bit older card tell me what your limit for rendering is? Like in how many Gen9 can you squeeze into a scene, what are your render times?
There is no right or wrong here (I think). Please just give me your honest opinion as I'm looking for ideas on what to do now. Thanks in advance for your help.

WIth my 4070 Super ,12GB of VRAM generally limits my rendering to 2 clothed G8 characters. That limit is OK for me. If you want to do more complex scenes, get something with 16GB or more VRAM. I have not looked at the 50xx series yet, since I am not in the market for a new video card.
Thanks for the specs! ^^ That is very helpful (although less power than I expected). So the 4080 Super with 16 GB VRAM might not even let me do three Gen9 characters. Oooff.
Rendering the attached simple scene without the G8.1 Skater takes about 30% of my VRAM (3.6GB out of 12GB). This amount includes the "overhead". Rendering it with the Skater takes 65% of my VRAM (7.8GB). So I can conclude that there is room for another dressed V8.1 character.
Everyone differs in what they render. What are their experiences? What do you like to render artsinis.san?
40 series cards are low in stock and prices are already inflated, I'd wait for 50 series now. If this launch is like the past couple of gens then you may have more luck getting a prebuilt. Might be something to consider if you were swapping the rest of the parts anyway. If the FE cards are available where you are they seem to get released more often but in smaller numbers, check the Nvidia website, maybe look at stock trackers.
Just make sure you get a video card with 12GB or greater VRAM.
If you are interested in AI locally the 5090 with 32GB Video RAM plus 128GB or more system RAM is what you want to do.

IMHO, the prices for a 5090 are simply ridiculous. The same applies to 4090. So I would not pay for these cards, as they are hugely overpriced not really needed, not even for 4K-gaming, let alone for DAZ3D.
If you do not have money to waste, go for a 4070 Ti Super. This card will "only" cost you US-$ 800 (or even less, if you buy a used one) and you will still get a really, really good GPU. You can use the amount of money saved to buy a brand-new PC for US-$ 1,200 and will still have saved US-$ 500 over the 5090. Even a 3080 ist still a great card that will meet your needs!
If you get a balanced PC, with a good (but not great) CPU, like AMD 7600X (6 cores) or AMD 7900 (12 cores) and 32 GB of RAM, you should have a great machine! You do not need a 4090 or 5090 (unless you do not have to care about money, because you were born rich or got lucky in the game of capitalism) unless you want to render on a truly professional level (like 8 hours a day, five days a week).
You need to remember that memory, as well as speed, is a major factor in picking a GPU for rendering.
I have a new 4070 super Ti with 16 Gb VRAM and it will render multiple characters just fine.
I just bought 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200 RAM for one desktop PC bank this month, and will add another 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200 RAM next month. Crucial at $89. I likely will replace the 2TB nvME SSD with 2 x 4TB nvme that are mirrored because of the massive amount of space these AI training datasets use! I also will likely upgrade the GPU from a 4070 to a 5070 in the next two years. All of that will make for a powerful online AI & DAZ PC. That will wrap up the upgrades for this particular PC which I will keep as a cheap online PC that's exposed to the weak WAN world of security (although ultimate it wasn't cheap). Then, based on what I've learned with that I will build a brand new always-offline PC using the latest in technology CPUs (likely AMD AM5 or maybe even AM6), GPUs(likely RTX 5090 or RTX 6090), RAM (likely DDR5), and SSDs(PCIe5 I think).
