Content Wizard Woes

Good morning, everyone.  For a long, long time now I've been unable to use my Content Wizard 3rd party installation product: I’ve tried other things like Content Package Assist, but I’d really like to put my 3rd party products in as smart content.  Recent events have meant that I have to reinstall my pretty vast collection of 3rd party products, so I may as well do it ‘properly’ via the Wonderful Wizard of Daz.   When it works, it’s amazing, so this is really frustrating.

I suspect my problems stem from the fact that I originally installed Content Wizard through Daz Connect.  I’ve since tried the following: work offline, delete the product from the library altogether, then reinstall using DIM (which I now know is what I should have done in the first place).

I had similar problems in August last year with UltraScenery, but received a lot of kind support, especially from @barbult.  Back then I learned that even though you delete a product, there might be files lingering in certain caches, or somesuch, and there is definitely still a folder in my Daz Connect Library.

Can anyone advise?

Find the product in either the Products section of the Content Library or the Products tab of Smart Content. Right click on the product thumbnail. If it gives you the option to Uninstall, select that option to uninstall it from Daz Connect. Afterwards, you might need to reinstall it with DIM. Many script products don't work if installed with Daz Connect. I ALWAYS use DIM.

If you deleted the product without ininstalling it from Daz Connect first, I'm not sure how to proceed. Perhaps you can reinstall it with DAZ Connect and then uninstall it again. I'm not sure.

Thank you, Barbult, will give that a try.

  • Okay - that didn't work in the end.  So I've uninstalled, deleted the product with Studio offline: however, the product folder is still there in My DAZ Connect Library.  Do you think I should dlete that folder as well?

Did you uninstall through Daz Studio? Though it would still appear under the Available and All install state filters in Smart Content (bottom of the Products tab) and after the installed products in the alphabetical list of Products in the Content Library pane unless you delete its metadata from /data/cloud/meta/ and stay offline in Daz Studio.

When you say "that didn't work in the end", does that mean that after you uninstalled the Content Wizard product from within Daz Studio, the Content Wizard still didn't work? Did you try reinstalling it from DIM after uninstalling it from inside Daz Studio? Did you restart Daz Studio for good measure? What are the symptoms of "not working". Do you have any screenshots and Daz log files that will help us understand what is going on?

Yes to all of the above.  Well.  Most.  I uninstalled within Daz Studio, took it offline, then deleted the product from Content Library.   Then I opened up DIM and installed from there.  Restarted Daz Studio.  The specific issue I'm getting is that I load everything up to the Content Wizard Interface as per the instruction manual and press install, which always worked back in the day.  These days I get an error message which states there were errors in the installation.  You go back to Smart Content and it isn't there at all.

I suggest that you post a message in the commercial thread for the product, so RiverSoft Art can look into it. I don't own it. He is very good at providing support to his customers.

That's great, thank you so much, @barbult for your help - and that link. :)
