After having upgraded to version 4.23 with NVIDIA 566.36 Game Ready Driver

[After having upgraded to version 4.23 with NVIDIA 566.36 Game Ready Driver] my render series now fail without exception. Are others also experiencing this?

Having lived with an RTX 3070 8GB (10th gen i9 + 32GB DDR4 RAM)for quite some time, I have gotten used to downgrading textures and not loading many characters, objects and I am also using minimalistic environments when animating. Two to three days in a row now, Daz simply refuses to resume rendering after, for example, having rendered out 93 out of 119 frames. Nothing in the scene changes. The VRAM load is not even close to what I can theoretically jam in there; but it still fails. Just now I even tried rendering the same scene on a identical PC (same hardware, driver versions, windows versions etc.), but from different angles. One PC stopped @ frame 93 as mentioned before, and the other encountered a critical error @ frame 74.

Error report on the PC stopping @ 93 -

(crashing)

I don't think I have ever worked with anything as buggy or cumbersome as Daz; ever. If it weren't for cost sunk I would've fled with 200 MPH years ago. It's like an abusive relationship where you get slapped around every day, but come back, even though you know you shouldn't. I am very, very tired of it. The fact that you have to sit there and wait for the programme to respond EVERY time you need to copy and paste something in the timeline, and then change it to linear, before changing it back to TCB when animating and then wait for minutes on end for it to register is enfuriating. Or try to get one eye to look at the camera, for example, and then the programme crashing consistently every single time is just so damn demoralizing. It's just not very user friendly and at this point I wonder if they care at all. Why did they implement the ability to animate if they don't want to flesh it out and fix the bugs? dforce? [pish] with that xD

Anyway, I would appreciate it if anyone had some feedback on the issue with consistent crashing, if it isn't just me. 4th time now. Used 30 minutes now rendering nothing while troubleshooting; getting nowhere. Just bad.

regards,

Anti

  • Try rolling back to an older driver, that still supports the current version of Iray. Not for the first time nVidia has released some updated drivers that cause issues with Iray.

Driver version 566.36 + DS 4.23 work well on my side for rendering, so far so good, but I always use NSD version.

Suggest you increase windows virtual memory and try NSD version. If you don't run out of VRAM but the issue still persits, just roll back to the older driver that ever worked for your cases.

Thank you for your feedback! After one more hour of tinkering with it, restarting Daz and so on, I succeeded in rendering out the last frames ^_^

and I am sorry for being so negative, but using Daz for animation just makes me want to pull what little hair I have left, out.

Is the game ready driver suitable for you? I've been using the studio driver all this time.

I have tried both and there is honestly no noticeable difference. Even had the Game Ready driver on my main and then the studio driver on my identical hardware computer and I don't know what the difference is supposed to be (rendering the same scene but different parts with the same camera angle). It isn't any faster either.

I did downgrade the driver, and it does the same thing on both computers (stopping rendering after in between 25-40 frames (varies each time). I guess I will live with it for now and wait for something moderately stable, and then think REAL hard about it next time, before I install the newest drivers.
