DAZ Shop Prices and International Currency

I'm not sure if this is the right price to post this, but it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else. I'm not even sure if those who need to see it will, but here goes.

The DAZ Shop needs to either have the ability to note a user's location and provide pricing in their local currency or it needs to have it somewhere easy to find and obvious that all the shop prices are in US Dollars. This is just standard with online shops these days and that neither of these things is being done can lead to non-American users paying more than they expected to.

  • There are $ sign's everywhere, sure maybe there should be "US" before the $ character for Canada and Hongkong buyers, but showing local currency is of little help as DAZ cannot show the hidden costs added by your bank or card provider for currency conversion (it is of course a different story if you could actually buy in local currency), and with DAZ return policy it is easy to return something if you are unhappy with the cost, sorry, I am not trying to pick on you but I do not see the problem here, but maybe that is just me, maybe others see this as an issue also ?  (and no my local currency is not US$).

So how long will we have to wait for complaints because Paypal and the various banks use slightly different conversion ratios? Or because someone left stuff in their cart and prices changed with conversion from one day to the next?

I should think there are browser plug-ins that will do this  for you, though as noted the actual cost may still be higher depending on how your bank/credit card provider handles the conversion.

  • I must admit I think it is reasonable to think that a US company would sell in US$ by default, a French company in € by default and an Australian company in AU$ by default. I would expect my own local currency, if available as an option, to have to be explicitly selected for this reason: If using a VPN it could look as if I'm based in Iceland, and I don't think I would want to have to pay in Kroner with being asked simply based on where I appear to be from. Regards, Richard.

For what I know DAZ does not charge sales tax for any countries outside US (I'm in Europe and I'm not being charged any), so if you're outside US you probably (depending on where you are) save a good deal more on that account than you may lose on conversion ratios.  At least if you're a private customer.

I'm in the UK and use my bank card because the exchange rate is better. I don't use Pay Pal because their exchange rate is higher so costs me more even with the bank cost for the exchange.

  • Well I have been complaining about this for long time, I am paying too much for the conversion.

One nifty Windows app Calculator can get the conversion rates of the country of origin versus the US$, just click the down arrow (you need to have internet connection to get the results).

I wish Daz can alleviate this issue for non US members.

Do users living in the US pay sales tax on top of the $10 price when buying a $10 item from DAZ SHOP?
I live outside the US and only pay $10 for the item plus a small fee to convert it to my local currency.

Adding "US" i supose could help because there many currencies that use "$", no just dollars. 'Pesos' use the same, here in argentina we don't add "AR", that is just for international notation.

But adding 'live' conversion of all values would mean a lot of calculations and constant keeping up to date tables. I mean, doesn't the store already have a lot with all the different promotions, memberships, codes, etc that there is no single day without problems? Why add more to the mix?

I know someone who worked on the backend of the Amazon web infrastructure and let's say that each web page served is reliant on so much technology that no small company could repliocate in on their own.  Even Apple and Google store a nlot of things like Icloud and much of your Google data on Amazon servers.

    In some states, AFAIR.

Yes, their local stores use local currency - but if I visit amazon.com instead of amazon.co.uk I get prices in USD, marked only as $x.xx
