It's A Shame NEW RELEASEs Aren't In the Sales. I think in the 10+ years I've been here buying thousands and thousands of pieces of content, I've only bought a NEW RELEASE twice. If New Releases were included in sales, I'd buy them all the time. A lot of times, when the newness factor wears off, I've lost interest in them, and I never buy them. I know there's some rationale behind witholding them from being on sale for 3 months. In the past, the greatest quantity of a product sold the most within the first 3 months. But maybe if they were included in sales, they would sell 10 times more of each of them. Maybe it's something the artists and DAZ3D may want to consider experimenting with. I know next March I'm not going to be a whole lot interested in what was released on DAZ this week.

They have the New label for two months, not three, the 30% new discount for two weeks, and sure, the New label usually prevent these releases from being on sales, but as with any rule on Daz store, this one is not absolute and they do happen to be part of a sale regularly, like catch up sales at the end of a month long sale or like… *drum rolls* today, as part of the wish-list sale.
So, put them on your wish-list if you can't justify paying them at a lower discount, forget about them and re-discover them when they happen to be on sale at a price you can pay: they'll be as fun to use in a couple of months as they are today.
If you've been here over ten years, you should know that Daz has experimented widely with different discounts in the intro period. Even in less than a decade, I've seen periods where they've tried going down to 20% on initial release, sales months where the initial discounts get up around 50% base (or even more when stacking), them running wishlist sales that work on new items, and all that. So they have extensive sales data relating to when and how people actually spend the most on new items, and *also* data on how that affects the long term takings on those products they give away cheap in their intro period.
You are supposing that either a) their actual data on their sales figures about different discounts in the sales period is inferior to your hypothetical speculation that maybe they'd sell ten times as much, or b) that their data says that there is a circumstance where they would make more money, but then they've deliberately chosen to make less money than they could.
Did the WishList sale work for you? I couldn't get the coupon or discounts to work, so I couldn't buy anything.
It's fine with me if that's what works best. It obviously doesn't work best for me. But then, I'm just one person. But having been in sales for 36 years, I realized that times change, buying habits change, the economy changes, and new businesses and technologies are introduced. If it's working for everyone, then great.
While they would probably sell more copies, 10 times more is really unlikely. The market for Daz content is actually quite small.
Also, while selling more copies is nice, it doesn't necessarily mean generating more revenue overall since each copie sells for less.
I only used the coupon to buy two new releases, but other coupons were working for me when I tried them later yesterday.
The coupon worked for me when selecting wishlisted items from one of the discounted categories.
There was a problem in the morning if you selected items from several categories though, discount only applied to those of one category but not the others. Not sure if it was fixed later.
It was but some people still had problem with it, either because the problem was incompletly fixed or because these people added items from their wishlist that were not part of one of the three selections (which is an easy to do by mistake, considering there is no way to easily know if a product is part of your wishlist and the selections).
From what at least one PA has said, most of the sales for a given item are during the new release period. Sales are designed around increasing purchases of older items.
I feel like I'm in an alternate dimension or something reading this...
Over the past few years, new releases started to accrue more discounts- things like "buy at least 2 of today's releases, get an extra 10% off...buy 3 get +15%" or "buy every day for this amount of time to increase the amount off of each day" or "buy this door buster, get this discount" and of course, there are tokens too... the days of a PA actual selling a new release for "only" 30% off seem like a fever dream of the past. So much so that I know more than a few good vendors who have left because the discounts make it difficult if not impossible for those who used to make a living with this kind of 3D work. The few days I see an intro sale without additional discounts, I'm pretty shocked. And these days, things go into back catalog/deep discount territory in about 3 months so seriously it's not that long of a wait. If you've been around as long as you have, and I know you have, then you know all this already, which makes thread seem even more surreal.
Leana hit the nail right on the head here. It's useless if I sell 100 copies but make cents (yes, less than a dollar) on each sale because revenue pays the bills and determines the success of a product (ROI). Of course, it would be different if I got cents on a sale but sold thousands of copies, but that's a pipe dream.
As Disparate Dreamer also mentions, tokens have made it extremely rare for a product to sell at 30% discount (let alone without any discount!). There have been times when new releases have been unprotected from stacking and sold at more than 70% discount, which is quite disheartening for PAs (and rightly so, as these discounts are expected on back catalog items only).
If New Releases regularly received stacking discounts (akin to back catalog discounts), PAs would likely be forced to increase prices even more to compensate. That, or we would stop doing quality work in favor of small and quicker products to get a better ROI. Users would, therefore, end up with subpar products or repeat the same types of quick products. I wish the DAZ market were bigger so we could still make a living selling at steep discounts and users could get more items for their money, but that is sadly not the case.
