First, a part of my layout dissapears.
I loaded my saved layout, the layout came back, but the toolbars were missing.
Then I tried to use my backup layout.dsx.

It didn't help.

I use public release ver 4.23.0.4

what to do?
Other than recreate the toolbars again...

C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4 Public Build
The location is here, right?

    So now,
    the toolbars are back again.
What I did, I went to customize, I put an item from custom menu, to toolbars that has changed to default.
Shut daz down, opened it again and magically all my custom toolbars reappear.
    BUT cannot be rearranged.
When I took it out, it can't snap back in.  :(

  • I am not following  quite what is happening.

Basically the trouble starts when suddenly the layout of my daz is different. Out of the blue. There were panes missing.
So, I loaded my saved layout, the layout came back, but the toolbars were missing.
(Even though the preview layout shows they should be there.)

So, I thought maybe I can restore my daz toolbars by copying from the backup.
So I copy paste the layout.dsx.

    It didn't help.

The toolbars remain missing and some are just the default ones.
I checked in the customise workspace window, all of my created toolbars are not there. The names were just back to default.

I tried copy paste toolbars.dsx from my backup, no effect.

I thought... hhh...maybe I just have to recreate them again from the scratch.
So, I went to customize worskpace window again, I clicked and drag one menu from the custom to one of the toolbars as usual when we want to create custom toolbars.
I just make one, to see wether there will be a glitch again.
So, I shut daz down, opened it again and magically all my previous custom toolbars reappear.
    Don't ask me why.
    BUT it cannot be rearranged.
When I took one out, it can't snap back in.
    leaving me with floating toolabars
    Example:

  • Is Window>Workspace>Lock Docking/Undocking unchecked (it should be).

When the toolbars were not displaying were your custom actions available?

    It is unchecked.

When the toolbars were not displaying were your custom actions available?

It is only available in the customize workspace window.
But in the menu bar, most of them were gone. Even now it doesn't come back.

  • Which it is available only in the Customise dialogue? What is gone from the menu bar - the custom actions? Are they in exactly the same place as the Daz Studio property is set to find them (not just the same relative path)?

Yeah, many of them are gone. (Scripts and Favorites)

    I don't know.
They are in the usual Scripts or Favorites menu.
When custom actions are created, they are there.

    1. Only copying / pasting layout.dsx file won't help... you either load the correctly-saved Layout from Window > Workspace > Select Layout... or correctly backup / restore the files: actions.dsx, customactions.dsx, layout.dsx, menus.dsx, toolbars.dsx under %appdata%\DAZ 3D\Studio4 before relaunching DS.

    2. To dock a toolbar back and/or re-arrange sub toolbars, you have to hide the Pane Group first by clicking that "triangle" icon or clicking any Pane tab before dragging the toolbar to redock it to the place where you want it to be ~~ It's a sort of "bug" of DS ~~

I meant are the files on disc exactly where the custom action details say they are? Right-click on one of the problem ones in the Customise dialogue and select Edit Custom Action.

    2. is not correct, at least it shouldn't be. I just tested without issue undocking a toolbar from next to a pane group and redocking it where it had been.

It shouldn't... but it doesn't work , again, in DS 4.23. But anyway it can always work by hiding a Pane Group beforehand ~~

IIRC, it didn't work in some versions before... e.g. versions in between DS4.14 ~ 4.16. It may be a glitch but it really happened, and may happen again...

Edit: I have to say now I can always reproduce this issue in DS 4.23.0.4 https://mega.nz/file/6f5HGY4J#1DT-7aTNXFQe5XOJZd5uv0CC1F7d2cCCc8XReLBKd10
