Are ID Maps still useless?

I cannot for the life of me understand why ID maps are not antialiased. The entire point of them is to be able to properly select areas of a render for postwork, and that doesn't do one a lot of good when they have jagged edges.

Anyway, I was just testing the new canvases in Studio and it appears they are as useless as ever. Auto Material ID does assign random colors to each surface - which is nice - but they're still not antialiased. I can't get Material ID and Object ID canvases to work at all, even after manually setting all of the Material ID colors in the Surfaces panel. How are these used, even if they still render with jagged edges? And what do the Scale and Disable Post Processing options do? I tried scaling one map to 1.5 and it came out the same size as all the others. I hope I'm missing something here.

Thanks.
