DIM and shared drives

I have a Mac, a PC and a NAS. Can I use DIM to download packages to the NAS, then have both the Mac and the PC access that package directory to install files to their own volumes?

Note that I'm not asking whether I can have a common directory of installed DAZ products used by both machines -- I strongly suspect that won't work -- but whether the two machines can share one common directory for downloaded files.

Has anyone tried this successfully (or unsuccessfully)?

UNC (network) paths are not supported, as far as I know, but that should be the only obstacle - set up a local alias, so it looks like a regular path, and it should work fine.

I never tried with a NAS (but have seen posts of people mentioning they had their content library on a NAS and use it on multiple computers), but having content directories on an external drive which would then be used by a Mac or a PC does work (as long as the drive uses a formatting both Windows and Mac can use). Obviously you'd need to install the program and plugins on each computer though.

Regarding having DIM downloads folder on a NAS:

As long as you tell both DIM where the folder is, tell them not to remove the downloaded file after install, and keep separate manifest archives so it knows what is installed on each machine, it should work for content. But I've seen posts mentioning a problem to install the program and plugins when the corresponding zip file is on a NAS. So you would need to temporarily change the downloads directory when installing those.

Yes, I ran into exactly this problem. Regular content installs fine from the NAS, but trying to install the CMS and DAZ Studio failed every time. Eventually I figured out that I needed to change the download directory to a local disk and install from there, just as you said. That took care of it.
