How To Save Downloads To My PC?

I came across the suggestion in 1 of the many threads about Premier to save the DS install & other product zips from DIM to one's own personal files. (I can't recall who posted it or which thread because there's so. Many. Posts.) I think it's a good idea no matter what is/isn't happening in Dazland.

My son has been getting physical as well as digital copies of his purchased videos and games and encouraging me to do the same as companies have removed even bought digital content and servers aren't immune to accidents. The same logic applies, and I do have an external drive I can put them on.

But few things with computers are intuitive for me, although I can follow a good set of instructions. So can someone tell me how to do this, please? Or point me to a good tutorial?

As long as you don't delete packages after installing them:

For the DS application: The files will already be in the folder where you have DIM configured for Downloads. Make a copy of the DS application and the plugins. Copy the zip file and the dsx file for each one. Store those copies someplace safe.

For all products: make a copy of everything in your downloads folder and save the copies someplace safe.

You can also download from your Product Library https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files

Just a tip: there's no need to copy the dsx files, DIM will regenerate them automatically, even in offline mode. Plus, due to how file systems work, having a lot of those small files could take up a non-trivial amount of storage space.

miladyderyni_173d399f47 Your son concerns are truly valid.

What you need is to buy an External Hard Disk.

Capacities vary, 8TB or more are within good price, unless your content is more bigger than that.

My setup goes to Drive D in Windows 11

You need to copy The InstallManager folder into your external hard drive.

Just create a Daz 3D folder and copy the contents there.

This can be a better insurance if something goes wrong, no need to connect to the internet, unless there is a new content.

When doing the install copy the InstallManager folder into Daz 3D nothing else, for this to be achieved you need to run DIM and select or change where the Daz files can be

    See the examples below.

If in doubt, let me know.

  • Thanks all! I do have an external HD, not sure how large it is. I am going to prioritize items I use a lot and the DS versions I have.
