What happened to the iconic bundles that used to release every Thursday? (Liana, Walter, Olimpia..,)

Every Thursday a new stream of iconic and high-quality content would release, with the respective Bundles for the new Character and one or two themes (Sci Fi, Fantasy, Historical...) .The last ones were Toshi, Kaede, Thomas and Wukong.

Some months ago, a randomThursday was skipped, leaving only 2-3 of the iconic Thursday Daz Originals bundles each month. Then a month with only 2, and August with only 1. September was dry.

What is happening? Are they discontinuing that line of content?

  • Not an insider, but I would hypothesize that with Sept being forcused on PA, maybe they put DO's on hold?

Next month is Daz Anniversary sale, maybe they'll resume then?

This is purely speculation, but I've noticed that the new character threads for the new base figures have been getting shorter and shorter as fewer people were bothering to comment.  They may have simply decided to slow down the release rate to make each new release feel a bit more special.  Heck, how many new base figures have there even been in G9?

  • I think it probably is simply that they didn't want to run them when the focus is on PA products rather than Daz originals.

So, at not quite two years old, that's double the number of core releases for G2 and nearly double the number of releases for G3...  and that's before you take into account that a lot of the G9 releases work as both male & female.  That's an awful lot of "core" figures to shovel out so quickly.

Probably don't want to repeat the discount Toshi ended up at. Although I suspect he probably had the best sales figures out of any male G9 bundle.

Maybe, though I suppose it really depends on how you calcuate "best sales"..  Toshi and his bundles ended up being so insanely cheap... I picked up his Pro Bundle for just 9 bucks... that the discount had to have greatly offset the number of units sold when it came to the total revenue earned.  It a bit more likely if one goes solely by the number of units sold as the qualifier, but even so I suspect that Michael will always be the best seller for any given figure generation, due to the combination of always being the first male available and being the one that's most often used as a promotion item.

Yes. I am aware. It was mostly a reference to how often they say male content doesn't sell.

Well, the core figures cover about every ground I can think of, so there is slightly less inclination for Daz to release new ones. They may be open to suggestions for things you feel they don't cover, provided they don't involve more than two arms or stuff like that (there's a thread about why that's a complicated and very unpractical idea buried around here somewhere).

Sure, I'd personally love to see some more stylistic and supermodel type figures, like we had during the G3/V7 period, but that's apparently not a direction Daz wants to go, and which can, to a large degree, be accomplished using characters done by PA's. Still, I'd probably buy a G9 equivalent of Lilith 7 in a heartbeat. A G9 equivalent of the alien Zelara 8 would be very welcome as well, but, again, some PA's also make stuff in that direction, though Zelara is definitely the one offering most variations with all the add-ons dedicated to her.

So, overall, I guess it is to be expected that the release of G9 core figures wound down a bit, and now just happens when either they have some big burst of inspiration, or when they come up with some exceptionally nice things from a variety of PA's that somehow cover a similar theme.

We still don't have G9 centaurs.

Centaurs aren't that common as a Daz core figure. The last centaur here before Centaur 7 was the standalone figure https://www.daz3d.com/shades-of-atlantis-sagytarios by Luthbel. It says it's for Poser 6 and DS, so the Generation 3 (Victoria 3 & friends) era and DS 2. When the G8 centaurs were released, people were surprised because it had been years between the first 2 centaurs.

Even though the few G9 figures I've bought aren't humans, I wouldn't be interested in a Centaur 9 since it would use Horse 3, which I don't think looks nearly as good or horse-like as Horse 2 or LoRez Horse 2.

And do we really need them?  DAZ Horse 3 was a bit of a disapointment and has some seriously weird anatomical and posing issues.

And the Hivewire Horse still looks the best of all of them, sadly.  There's a set of morphs on Deviant Art by an artist named hemi-426 for centaurs using G3/8 & V4 and the Hivewire horse that I much prefer, design-wise, to any of the official DAZ centaurs.

I'm not sad about it. I just wish there were some more morphs and displacement for Harry.

If the choice is between a G9 centaur based on DH3 or no G9 centaur, I know what I'm choosing.

Weren't most of the complaints about Horse 3 head shape? Let's replace it with a human torso, problem solved. cheeky

Jokes aside, I'd like to see a centaur character too. But with an improved horse-human transition area, please.

I was justing maybe slow down is run out of ideas and how everytime a new core comes out there is a lot of complaints more of the same or they don't approve of the content included or some other complaint/negativity towards the core

I really hope PAs aren't running out of ideas.  There's a lot of potential bundle styles and themes they can release.  We had a decent run of sci-fi stuff with the Star Trek fan art, Sophia and Kara.  They were all different but with similar space themes. Give us some fantasy themed bundles-and with October there's plenty of Halloween themed ideas!  Witches, mummies, werewolves, and last year Death 9 gave us a great undead style and skin.  Not to mention the 4 Horsemen Pro Bundle which is simply incredible.

that was another thing a few bundles being under the Editorial License banner or containing items that required something that required it that sort of upset some though I will admit I was tempted by some being a fan of them I don't like the EL still Star Wars tempted me even Star Trek but I'm more Star Wars and the Fallout one if they included some of the creatures, robots and other stuff BUT there is one that really would interest me and I'd even accept the EL especially if it offered various factions and races and that is Warhammer 40,000 universe- space marines/sisters of battle/guardsmen/inquisitors , chaos marines, orks, necron, tyranids, tau, eldar, dark elder, chaos gods and their minions, and so much other stuff from that universe. Yes their is stuff here close to all these here and I've been buying collecting there's even a tyranid creature that I can use to create inspired by themed but to have accurate looking products would be cool and even though most certainly be under the EL I'd just be happy to create renders of this universe

  • I mean there are still plenty more Pro bundles that could come out. I believe we don't have a g9 core Indian male, middle eastern male, or Spanish/Latin American male and female yet that g8 had. Never seen and always wanted a true SE Asian core (Thai, Filipino, Cambodian, etc.). We have the senior man in Walter but not really a senior woman. Also room for plenty of themed core bundles. I could always go for a new 1920s male and female bundle. How about the 50s or 60s, the Victorian Era, Renaissance Era, etc. Plenty of decades and eras to theme bundles on. Hopefully it's just a slow down and we get more G9 cores coming soon and more regularly.

Er... that would probably be because one of the major purposes of introducing a new core is rather obviously so that DAZ can sell new "improved" versions of the same old things.  And yes, those quotes are very intentional, as I've been rather less than impressed with many of those "improvements," with both G8.1 and G9 generally being more cases of better ideas in concept than in actual execution, and d-force having become a mixed blessing that brings the potential for the improved draping of dynamic cloth along with an excuse for the production of clothes that try to get way with some very mediocre modeling.

We have Minerva 9 as a senior woman, and while she's an older (pun intended) Genesis 9 model, she still holds up.  Sadly, she's a bit forgettable.  With that said, we could use another one of a different race to add some variety.  I'd also like a 50s or 60s style bundle.  A month like January could have each week introduce a bundle of a different era each week.  For the 60s we could get some groovy outfits, too!

I think we can all agree no more editorial licenses.  I like the idea of adding assets to a bundle and having an EL addon, but let's keep them really cheap.

Minerva 9 I would call later middle aged, at least in my eyes. ;) When I say senior female g9 core I am thinking more like Mabel from g8 Edit: to add since Mabel was inspired in part by a "Golden Girl" how about a G9 more senior female to honor another one that was sadly lost a couple years ago Betty White. That would be a great core figure and bundle imhop.

I understand what you mean now.  A Betty White style G9 would also work well with various themes, too.  Sadly we did not get a new bundle today.  Maybe next week  :(

Horse 3 complaints weren't limited to the head. I recall several about the legs & some horses in the main bundle promo have unrealistically long necks. My main issue with centaur models is the transition, however. The G8 torso transition isn't appreciably better than the C7 versions. Noe I haven't ruled out purchasing the G8 versions if they went on a super deep discount, just so I could easily make centaurs from my favorite G8 characters.

Oh, I hope they haven't run out of steam. There's such a huge variety of humans once you multiply gender x age x race x body type. Some of the Gen9 core release also weren't realistic so still leave a gap for these looking for the quality of figures like Thimor and Genghis (and I would love more exceptional material's like Zack).

I'd personally like more people from the asia-pacific - islanders, indigenous Australians, particularly a maori warrior couple. Some good monolid eyes. A realistic Maryam and her brother. A few more with character actor features. A few skinny characters with visible bones.

I mostly do romance cover type art, so handsome and pretty men with good materials, exceptional hands, that pose well, from all cultures, are always welcome.

I agree some of the older Genesis 9 models don't hold up too well compared to the recent releases, and that can be expected. There's definitely a ton of themes that can be utilized, especially starting in October.  A big benefit would be to instead of doing heavy, curvy, mulscular, or thin alternate shapes, we get different forms.  Like a toon form, denonic form, or something unique to the actual character that we don't see in other bundles.  I think we have enough curvy, buff and thin forms for now.  Let's get a wicked witch or werewolf form!
