Windows File Explorer "busy" during dForce simulation

So I finally upgrade my PC, use Windows 11 and update to DAZ 4.22. Unfortunately, as the title suggested, navigating Windows 11 File Explorer during dForce simulation now become annoying because the cursor turn to "busy" symbol and it takes few seconds to just open some files / folders. I didn't have this issue on my last system (Daz Studio 4.15 with Windows 10). I have quite high end PC so I doubt that this is hardware issue.

My System :

  • Windows 11 Pro, latest update.
  • Daz Studio 4.22
  • CPU Intel i9 14900K
  • GPU RTX 4090
  • DDR5 64GB
  • SSD NVMe Samsung 990 Pro 2TB

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance!

Have you configured dForce simulation to use your GPU as your CpenCL Device?

  • Yes, that's the first thing I've checked when I encountered this issue.

  • UPDATE : So I still have my Daz 4.15 installation on external hdd and I try running the dForce simulation on this version of Daz... It turned out I have no issue whatsover navigating Windows File Explorer during simulation. It's as snappy as ever. I think it's safe to say the issue is with my Daz 4.22 installation, not sure what went wrong though. Any ideas?

    • What version of Daz Studio 4.22 are you running? The full version number is X.X.X.X. You can find all 4 digits in Help>About Daz Studio.
    • I am running 4.22.1.202 Public Build (AKA the beta) and I do not have the problem you are reporting.
    • In the Render Settings pane, on the Hardware tab, there is a CPU Thread Affinity setting. I select that and set CPU Load Limit to one thread fewer than my CPU total, to always keep a CPU thread available for other programs. That setting is on the Render Settings pane, so I don't know if it also affects things other than rendering, like dForce simulation. It is probably worth trying that, if you don't already have that set.

  • I'm using Daz Studio 4.22.0.1

So I tried both checked and unchecked CPU Thread Affinity, and when it's checked, I lowered the CPU Load Limit but the problem is still exist. One think I noticed during simulation, my GPU usage was actually close to zero so I guess it used CPU instead which is weird because I've made sure my GPU was selected on Simulation > Advance > OpenCL Device (see my previous post)

I'm just gonna try to re-install my Daz Studio 4.22 now because I think there's something wrong with my installation. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks for the help!

4.22 0.1 is not the latest General Release. DIM should be showing you an available update. If you didn't install with DIM, well... that probably makes knowing whether you have a proper installation more difficult. Does your NVIDIA graphics driver meet the minimum required version for your DS version? Will it render with the GPU, just not simulate with the GPU?

Yes, IIRC, 4.22.0.1 is a problematic version. Suggest you upgrade to the latest DS version (4.22.0.19)...

Or, before upgrading your DS version, you can firstly check if you've installed the latest Studio version driver of 4090 (561.09) as barbult mentioned. If not, upgrade your Nvidia driver frist.

I have DS 4.22.0.16 (because I never use Daz Connect, so I chose not to upgrade to 4.22.0.19 which is the version just enhancing Daz Connect) and latest Win 11 as well as the latest Nvidia driver, everything works fine.

Yes, the issue only happened during simulation. No issue during iray rendering, it's working as I expected. I already used the latest NVIDIA driver.

UPDATE : Thanks everyone! The problem is resolved now after I cleaned all traces of my current Daz Studio from my PC and install the latest one. No more "busy" cursor icon during simulation laugh
