Need help for texturing, please

I would like to add a border to a uniform hat which this one does not have. I know from creating tattoos that you can get the pattern of the relevant region and draw what you want to use as a tattoo on top of it. This is then applied to the corresponding area using the ‘Layerd Image Editor’. That works. Something similar should also be possible with the texture of clothing, etc. Unfortunately, I can't find the pattern for this hat, for example.
Can someone perhaps give me a tip on where I can look up this type of texturing?
I would appreciate any tips. Best regards, Samara Blue

If the hat comes from a product, you can look for the UV template from the product package, and you better name it if it's a product. If we own it, we may help to check.

If there's no UV template, you have to work on the Diffuse map or any other type of maps (if there's no diffuse map) to make the border or trim on it.

  • thx, but I did not found this uv-Map. This ist the hat: https://www.daz3d.com/leprechaun-outfit-hat-for-genesis-8-males. I gave it used leather texture and now it needs a border ...

What exactly is a UV map? ... and a diffuse map? And how can I use these different maps?

A quick answer is that a UV map is basically a template showing that the eyes are here, the fingernails are here, etc...

A diffuse map is the texture that has the main color details as opposed to the bump and normal maps that show bumbs, elevations, and depressions

You can see the UV map for the item, if you in the surface tab, select one or more surfaces, and then switch Viewport to UV map.

It is unfortunately not very precise, so it can be used for painting.

When I need an UV map I take it into a modeller and export the UV map from there.

I don't have the hat, else I could have made it for you.

I checked the product page, the vendor have provided UV templates. Pls go to you Product Library: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files Filter by Leprechaun, you should see template files. Manually download them.

Just for info: there are no templates for the hat (nor for the shoes) - though they are there for the other parts of the outfit (jacket, shirt, pants and socks). I guess the product page was in error or Daz never added the hat and shoe templates. Maybe worth a ticket to ask?

It shouldnt really be a hindrance.

Just open up some texturing/photo editing software  (something like Substance Painter would be ideal but Blender is ok for basic edits and has a 3d texture painting option, and even Photoshop/Photopea should theoretically work).  Paint your edit on a copy of the base color texture map.

If you are using Photoshop or another 2D editor to edit texture, you can apply the texture map in Daz Studio and press CRTL+i to refresh the texture in Daz Studio as you edit it in Photoshop so you can see how the changes affect the texture in Daz Studio.
