all my render crash

hi, i start a new topic about something that seems to be current with last daz version: 

Lately , almost 90% of my renders make Daz crashing. Whether the soft just stop whether it' s "error during rendering" message, funny thing is within the soft when i use "Nvidia iray view" it works just fine.I just can't make the final render without crashing and,therefore,  export my pics... 

I'm running since 7  years with a windows 10 PC with 16 Go of ram, and my card is a Nvidia Geforce 750 ti 4 Go and , i just want to make this useful statement: until NOW, everything was fine for 7 years, i made hundred of renders and they went just fine.. Things got wrong when i updated to DaZ 4.22 version.

I'm not very familiar with the log files , but the one i checked seemed to mention more of a memory failure or something...
I tried NOT to use the OOT hair and some items that seem to make daz crashing... but at first i was on a rate of 50% of my renders crashing , now it's almost a 100% situation...
I also tried to remove some items from the scene , but it seems to crash very randomly.

Curious thing : i used an old DAZ 4.12 version , and i thought that was the solution at first , but no, renders made it crash too quickly..
 I used some software to test the RAM of my computer , and the 16 Go seems to work fine, i can't see anything wrong with my PC, except for this DAZ 3D issue.

Oh also: i installed the 4.22 last BETA version : no luck...

I think this might be a memory problem... or maybe , the only thing i changed is that i updated the geforce drivers , and maybe that's why something went wrong..

Well if someone could give me any help , as you can see i'm lost:
This worked, this doesn't work anymore and i have no idea why...

    16GB's of RAM is not much, your OS is probably using virtual memory (drive space) to compensate.

    Have you checked that you are not running out of disk space or space reserved for virtual memory?

    It's maxwell, so still supported, they also don't lose memory for rtx emulation(afaik they don't use it)

    Won't be doing much with it though, but i could probably get a few simple renders out of even that.

     

  • I have got into the same problem here. So far I've been rendering hundreds of scenes without a problem, it took around average of 7 minutes to finish most of my render. I'm using an Intel core i7, 16gb ram, and NVidia Geforce RTX 4060. Unfortunately 2 days ago, i got this error massage (Daz Studio has encountered a fatal error, and must close) every time i render every scene. 

    I have tried many solutions: OOT hair fix, driver update, switching to studio driver, re-do windows update, re-installing Daz. I also tried clearing Daz cache in C:, now it got worse, my Daz studio is really slowing down. I have no idea what else I should do. Please I really hope that someone out there can help me with this.. Thank you so much.

    I don't believe Maxwell is supported by modern DAZ versions. Check the minimum requirements for DAZ 4.22 - it says RTX2070 minimum if I remember correctly and 8GB Vram.

    I know not everybody has money to splurge on a new GPU but seriously, look at the used cards market. A used 2070 costs PENNIES now. You could buy it by scraping coins from your couch cushions.

    Supported 3d non RTX cards always use memory for the emualtion, otherwise they wouldn't work at all. I think the 750 has dropped out, but even if it hasn't the 4GB of memory will be totally inadequate for actually doing anything.

    Maxwell's are deprecrated, but still supported. I'm running 4 tesla m40's on my render server, with a k2000 for video out, and a quadro m4000 on my workstation with ds 4.22.0.16.

    A 2070 does not 'cost pennies', in a quick search of ebay, the cheapest one i could find was ~$170 usd. I can buy a 24GB tesla m40 for ~$80 usd, or a 12GB for $40.

    At that price point, $170 usd, an rtx 2060(12GB) would be the better option. While not as performant, that additional vram, especially in a single gpu system, would  give a user a bit more felxibility.

    Compared to older versions, 4.9.4 and 4.10.0.101 betas, the difference in vram utilization is ~600MB higher with the current 4.22.0.16.

    The weird thing, however, is the difference in vram utilization between my maxwell and pascal in the same versions, which was ~1GB.

    4.9.4 and 4.10.0.101 reported vram utilization of 2600 and 3600 MB, respectively for the m40 and p40, and 4.22.0.16 shows 3200 and 4300 respectively.

    My k2200 and m4000 reported about the same, 2600/3200MB, in 4.9/4.10 and 4.22.

    This is normal. As time passes features "go up" and hardware requirements too. New drivers usually take more and more resources, as new apps and OS versions. At some point we need to upgrade, or be happy with the old content and setup that's a perfectly viable solution if you don't need the new features.

    The RTX emulation for non-RTX cards started in DS 4.15 and it takes roughly 1GB of VRAM

    If that's the case, it doesn't explain the jump in vram in 4.12.0.33(beta), which is comparable to 4.22.0.16(release).

     

  • Mine just started doing this as well.  It was working fine then all of a sudden today it started crashing whil trying to render a scene I've been working with (and rendering with no problem) for a couple of days.

    After looking at my CPU and GPU usage, I found out my GPU isn't being used at all during rendering.  I updated the driver a few days ago, but I've done several renders since.

    My advanced render settings are below.

    Try rolling back to the older version of the driver that wasn't crashing. With an nVidia card you are presumably on Windows, in which case Task Manager does not - by default - give useful information on GPU usage; instead, go to the Performance tab of Task Manager (for which you need More details on) and set one of the grapgs for the GPU to show CUDA activity by clicking the arrow icon at top-right of the graph.

  • wow, i didn't check that post for a few days, i didn't expect that much answers... so MANY thanks to you all (it will take me a while to analyze all of them, since i'm not very good at VRAM ).

    for now i think i'll go back to some older drivers for my card, but also for DAZ3D , (i mean , i really don't give a damn of their updates, things always get worse more than adding some cool new stuff..that's my opinion).

     

    So here's a new question : how do you guys do when you want to find an older version of DAZ? where do you find them ? (oldversion.com doesn't seem to have DAZ , but maybe i can find them elsewhere)

    Older versions are not available for download anymore once a new one is released.

    You can try contacting Daz support, sometimes they can provide older versions.

  • i found a daz studio 4.15, and i downgraded my gpu card drivers... still the same, problem. I don't know what's going on, really. I wish i could read correctly the log files when it crash...

    Could you also clarify what do you mean by "render is crashing"?

    It's freezing/nothing happens, or DAZ just quits with an error message?

    It might also be just Windows. Windows is known for being more and more vram-hungry after each update. Maybe try rolling back a Windows update and see if this helps?

    Also, pay attention to your SubD levels on your characters/props, and other models.

    Even my $5000+ PC with RTX4090 crashes occasionally upon trying to push a HD female model to Subd5 laugh

    Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a pretentious a**hole. All I meant was I remember when these cards went for $1500 in my country when the ethereum mining frenzy went off.

    Also, they're much cheaper in where I live (the crappier ones like Inno3D and such are for ~$100). I understand 100-200 dollars might be a lot to many people, all I'm saying these 20xx series cards are dirt cheap in comparison to how much they have to offer even today! Both for amateur rendering and gaming. I'm sure pretty much anyone can make some expense cuts (like don't buy a couple of packs of cigarettes or beers, etc etc) and after a couple of months you might afford the investment :) All you need is some determination :)

    Also, fair point on the 12GB 2060, I forgot such card existed. OFC, I'd always take slightly lesser performance for more VRAM.

    Also, a crazy idea... It's a loooooooong shot, but... How old is your power supply in your PC?

    Have you ever experienced your PC just straight out rebooting after a DAZ crash?

    I have same problem.  Crash every rendering.  The same scene rendered without problem 2 years ago now crash before the end.  By the way, I have 32G ram, Windows 10, nvidia 4070 super.
