I'm assuming vendors nor DAZ uses Photoshop or something to sharpen and enhance the colour of the promo images.  Is that right?

Overall tonal adjustmentsa re allowed, as is editing things which are not part of the product, but the product should be shownm accurately from the render.

these are what I use and get good-great results depending on how well I set up the lights

    Render Settings pane:

    Progressive Rendering:

    Max Samples:100

    Optimization:

    Max Path Length:6

    Max SSS Path Length:4

    Filtering:

    Pixel Filter: Triangle

    Pixel Filter Radius: 0.50

    notes:

there are no render settings that can fix bad lighting.

be sure to use a camera that has the Depth of Field ON and setup correctly.

Your renders look a whole lot better than mine!  Thanks, I'lll try your settings.

With some scenes, I disable the Rendering Quality, set max. time and max samples to 50000 and let it run over night.

This. I let it render until it looks "cooked".

     yes +1

I definitely wait auntil it looks done. Seldom do reders "complete" in the same time or the same number of itereations.

Just an FYI. Dropping Max Path Length or Pixel Filter Radius values too low can cause issues.
Textures, and especially lighting will have a dramatic effect on when and where these issues appear.
