If you create just Iray, I will not buy it. No 3Delight option no match...it is your money smiley

More your loss than the vendors.

You know, in most cases the iray materials render pretty good in 3delight... you may only need to change some of the metal materials or change the glass materials.  You might be missing out on some great products just because of that.  A few minutes converting a couple of materials is not a bad thing, and most of us tweak materials ourselves anyway, so what is the difference?

Dont know about Daz but over at Rendo, I was asked to provide 3Delight materials for my latest product even though that was not my intention as I no longer render with 3Delight and have no desire to support it.

I thought Daz would have some kind of policy like that as well.

Or maybe it was just the tester who for some reason wanted me to do so. Who knows.

+10.  What I wanted to say, only you said it nicer. I will just never understand why people think I'm rude...

  • I'll be honest; I'm not yet ready to use Iray, but I won't immediately discount a product that doesn't have mats compatible with 3DLight, as I still have plenty of Poser only freebies that seem to work just fine without "compatible" materials.

How about no materials...just raw maps, no presets for any renderer.

It would save a lot of work/time on the creation side of things.

  • mjc1016,

Not going to happen, since they have to create them to do the promotional renders for DAZ to even consider offering the product.

Plus you do have the maps.  Just the presets are for Iray.

The thing is not everyone renders in Iray, some of us still renders in 3Delight, for some of us rendering is just a hobby and spending hundreds for a new machine just for rendering in Iray is not in my budget.

Well I can spend hundreds in a new machine but then I can`t spend money for your products. So I have to make a decision: Buy products at the DAZ Store or a new machine. If I buy a new machine I will not buy anything here at DAZ for some month.

We are saying learn how to convert them for the various 3Delight shaders, that doesn't cost you anything but a bit of time playing with the program.

Like, for example, 'hey, here's a metal door in Iray. There's a bump map and a color map. How do I do this in 3DL?'

Well, pick a 3DL metal that looks about right. Then change the bump map to the previous bump map, the color to the previous color. Cutout to Opacity. And there you go, that'll probably work on the vast majority of cases.

Sorry, but I tried to render several Iray materials in 3Delight, and they all had that nice and tasteful overall grey surface. But maybe this is better in 4.8; I still use 4.6.

It isn't working because D|S 4.6 doesn't support Iray, so it doesn't know how to understand and reverse-convert the new material parameters.

Ah, thank you! Time for an upgrade... ;-)
