Daz3DIM vs Install within Daz Studio

There is something that's been bothering me for a while and I'm hoping someone can help explain this to me.  I typically install Daz3D products via the Daz3DIM application.  My issue is that some items installed this way don't appear as installed within Products folder structdure in the Content Library pane within Daz Studio.  They are in the greyed out section at the end of the product folder.

The strange part (for me) is that I can load saved scenes or scene subsets that have that product in them so Daz Studio clearly knows about the product.  However, they don't appear as installed within the Smart Content pane unless I install them within Daz Studio (right click on the greyed out product in the Products section of the Content Library pane and select "install").  And, this doesn't happen with every product installed via Daz3DIM but only some of them.

Can someone help me understand the following questions:

1. Could there be a mismatch between Daz3DIM settings and the settings in Daz Studio preferences?

2. Why does this only happen with some products?

3. Is there a way to install via Daz3DIM so that I don't need to then install them again within Daz3D for them to be show-up and be useable in the Smart Content pane?

Thanks in advance for the help understanding this.

Most likely you closed daz Studio, started install manager, and isntaled the content - as a result the database engine wasn't runing (it was still closing down from DS when DIM would have asked it to start) and so the product wasn't added to the database. The files can still be found by their location, and will still appear under Daz Studio Formats in the Content Library. Go to the Content Library and open its option menu (the lined/hamburger button in the top corner, or right-click the tab) and select Content DB Maintenance; check Reimport Metadata and click Accept; check the products thata re installed but not appearing in database-driven views (greyed out in Products) and click Accept.

If you install through DIM there is really no reason to have DS work online (the only benefit is getting personalised notifications in the New scene dialogue).

Richard, thank you so much!!  That worked perfectly.  I take it from your comments that I should either keep Daz Studio open when using DIM or shut it down well in advance of starting DIM to download new files, is that correct?  Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your knowledge of the inner workings of Daz Studio and willingness to help all of us.

Yes, try not to close one application that uses the Daz database and then immedaitely open the other - leaving DS open is fine, you just need to right-click on the container you are using and select Refresh to see the new items added.
