Is it possible [to render toon-style] and if so, how do I render in more along the line of a 16 or 32 color rendition rather than the full graphic color?

3Delight is probably the ideal choice for that, especially if you have the old pwToon shader - but of course a lot of modern content has only Iray materials, and you would lose access to Iray-only features such as Decals and Section Planes. In Iray you might be able to do something with canvasses and then combine them in an image editor, giving a bit more control than just taking a final render into an image editor.

If you search http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log for "Toon" you will see some relevant work is being done on the canvasses feature.
Ok. We're moving in the right direction.
Image Nvidia is too detailed for my needs.
Image 3Delight is better but still a bit too detailed for my needs.
Do I need to use some other software? Shader?
Is there some type of Utube that shows how to use the software to render these "simpler" images?

For less detailed textures, you might want to check out Mattymanx's "Resource Saver Shader" sets.

Hope this toon feature will evolve in the future versions of Daz Studio.
Things seem to get easily overlooked in that busy thread - esp if few are testing that feature, or it requires "official Daz" response.

I use a very primitive method
any render and GIMP with the Cartoon Filter
batch plugin for my videos
it may not be as toon as some would like but it's fast

I have read the description a couple of times and finally I got something, I like.
Still do not know, how to deal with the eyes.

I also use Gimp pretty often, but mostly for combine different layers.
Cartoon filter in Gimp is great, but not often I got the results, I like, when applied to my renders.

For quicker rendering for animators, some work to button up the Filament render engine (i.e. fix transparency issues, emissives, etc..) and adding some tweaks to make it a close competitor to Blender's Eevee would give it similar results. Sometimes folks are OK with having a "Game" render quality for their work - as seen in other art works when ported from DAZ to something like Unreal Engine, Blender, etc...

sadly the cutout opacity flicker is rather distracting

Since half of what it says I can't find, so not sure what is going on or what I am doing wrong, this is from the latest version of Daz Studio.

Ahh k, thank you for the information, I am using the latest general release. I thought I was going mad on why I could not find what was said at that link. lol
Well I have been trying out the beta and the new toon option and well not able to work out how to make the scene brighter. Have to guess though there could be a whole new line of products for it when the latest beta gets released.
