Browser Icons Sometimes Don't Render Properly

Sometimes when I drag a figure into My Objects in  the content Browser it creates a reasonable looking icon for it.  At other times the icon generated  is all black.  I'm not sure what's going on.   Anybody know about this and how to prevent it?

    I think it renders the image as seen by your main camera,

    Also make sure you haven't turned off visibiliy for any parts of your object - or they won't get shown in the render.

    Thanks for the ideas.  It seems it reloads your item to a new empty scene, then render it use the default camera.  Since I was dragging stuff into the library from locations well away from Scene Origin I got the black icon.
